I have a question about how existing players go about using this class. In the twitch stream it was mentioned that you can pick it from the start when making a character. Is it a added thing like mage tree and stuff or will I have to make another guy?

It's a new class: you have to create a new char and select Warden as your class

OK, thx. Will probably actually be better. Gives me more time to mess around with the skill trees

    Another kindred spirit, hooray.

What baffles me and hasn't fit into any other discussion yet: Why release a class like the Warden with frost magic and bear companions with Vvardenfell of all places? It should have been added with Wrothgar if anything.
It's quite obvious they wanted to add value to the so-called "chapter" and glued the scrapped 5th class from alpha back together, instead of adding a class that actually fits the theme of the new content.

And my biggest concern next to no ability for class change is that this might be another nail in the coffin for spellcrafting.
Your right Bears and Ice have literally nothing to do with Vvardenfell.

The Warden would have fit much better in a Solstheim DLC, imho. I will admit, in the first few seconds of the bear on the stream, I thought it was a Werebear, as I drew a connection from the Skyrim Dragonborn DLC to Morrowind faster than the Warden to said game. Ice is the antithesis to the volcanic island that is Vvardenfell. I am happy about the mentioned cliff racer ability, however. I am also glad they added the Warden now rather than have no new class. As much as I want it, a Necromancer class would have made even less sense than the Warden in Vvardenfell, as it is prohibited (unless you are doing necromancy with your ancestors, then its fine :P)

But the ice magic is stupid imo.
If the character is supposed to be built around nature, then it would've been a lot cooler to get dps magic similar to like what Spriggans and Lurchers use; ice is a pretty big let down in terms of ingenuity and unique distinguishable skills.

There has been a lot of support from the playerbase for ice magic. A lot of people have wanted to be frostmages and such since launch. The current ice staff skill are underwhelming for this.

I wish that they held off ice magic for a necromancer class though :disappointed:

I wish they added the skill lines and made them earnable by any class (like Mages, TG, and DB lines), rather than locking them behind another class.

Other MMOs do not restrict abilities behind classes, have more build diversity, and better balance. Elder Scrolls, up until ESO, did not restrict abilities to specific classes (some games had classes, but that only affected attributes and how quickly you learned things, it didn't stop you from learning).

I do not like the direction they're headed by adding classes. I have 8 characters, I would prefer one that I need to pick and choose what I can do at any given time.

Earth seems to be rather a DK thing in ESO but I can see something related to Earth or Plants being in the Nature tree of the Warden as well.

I'd like to see a summoned Wolf companion as an active ability and it's morph can be either a powerful Black Wolf that does extra damage or a Senche Tiger that causes bleeding damage with its claws.

    Meh... warden schmorden.

Will I make one - YES.

Why? Because they will be the most broken and least nerfed class for a while, until they milk the DLC... oh... I mean "expansion"... for all it's worth, then nerf it like every other class once people in Cyrodil whine enough.

If they add a wolf summon, I hope it is the Dire Wolf model instead of the old wolf model. The old wolf model looks too blocky in my opinion.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I'm excited. I've already decided to either purchase the foreshadowed "class change" token for two of my low-level alts or simply deleting them (lvl 6 and lvl 11) when Morrowind drops and restarting those characters from scratch.

My question: the class change token -- is that really confirmed as on the way? This doesn't apply to me because I don't mind having to delete those two low-level alternate characters. Plus, I still have the ability to get four additional character slots through the crown store if/when I need them. But some of the significantly more dedicated and hardcore players have already created AND leveled characters for all 12 slots. Those players are going to NEED class change tokens or else they're going to have to delete characters to try out the warden, which isn't an enticing prospect.

And, if class change tokens are to be a thing, then is it unreasonable to request that the ONLY skill lines that get reset to zero be the class-specific skills? It's perfectly reasonable and expected to have to level-up the class-specific skill lines from scratch, but it isn't necessary to zero-out the guild, world, weapon, or armor skill lines. I'd be more inclined to spend crowns on class change tokens (instead of deleting low alts) if the class-specific skill lines are the only ones that change.

For the record, I don't mind shelling out the cash for Morrowind, considering what it is.

Concerning the pseudo-controversy of the "paywall" -- I admit that I have to agree with the validity of the argument over calling this a "chapter" instead of DLC to justify charging ESO+ subscribers for the new content. Obviously, it's a semantic dodge. And it's not very subtle. However, can we just let this one go? Yes, it's a dodge, but it's justified. Morrowind is supposed to be a significant addition to the game that dwarfs Craglorn and Wrothgar.

While it's true that many of us will most certainly be downloading the new content without purchasing a physical copy, thus affirming the argument Morrowind is thinly-recast DLC, Morrowind *is* a release featuring both standalone content and physical media sold at retail. In those ways, Morrowind is more similar to the original PC release and the later console release than Craglorn or Wrothgar. Also, there's supposed to be quests and a main plot line on par with the Molag Bal plot and the three different faction plot lines from the base game in terms of content, characters, and story (significantly meatier than Craglorn or Wrothgar). Consider that it's entirely possible to purchase and play this Morrowind "chapter" separately from the base game's zones and content. I.e., someone who has never played ESO could plausibly *only* buy & play Morrowind, never traveling to any of the other zones or playing through the content from the any of the three factions, never defeating Molag Bal. The Morrowind chapter *IS* its own, separate thing in every important sense, so it's reasonable that everyone has to buy it to play it.

Sure, it would have been a sweet deal for us ESO+ subscribers to have our cake and eat it too had ZOS opted to define Morrowind as DLC and not a "chapter," but apparently ZOS needs a better injection of revenue than ESO+ subscriptions and vanity items in the crown store. And it seems ZOS is not willing to bank on a flurry of crown pack purchases after homestead drops. Ya, $40 can feel steep when you've already bought the base game *AND* subscribe, but let's be honest: a lot of ESO+ subscribers ARE going to buy the collector's edition upgrade for the perk items that come with it. The war bear looks cool.

If this thread proves anything, more people than not are looking forward to playing the new warden class, even if it might not fit squarely into Morrowind lore. No, I doubt there's a plausible way for an ice mage to *originate* in a land with volcanic geography. But it does make sense for someone with ice-based defensive abilities to *venture into* a land with volcanic geography. All we need is a decent story featuring a main character who travels to Morrowind from elsewhere. That's all the setup the warden class needs to be introduced properly.

It's always bugged me that two classes use fire magic, but no classes use ice magic. I thought we'd have to wait on the resurrection of Spell Crafting to get ice magic. What the new warden class means for class balance, PvP, PvE, the viability of hybrid builds, and the ongoing struggle of stamina vs. magic, it's going to be predictably chaotic. Unexpected behaviors will arise and will hopefully get addressed promptly and effectively by ZOS. A new class means additional build variety will be available. As the CP cap increases, well-played hybrid builds will become as viable (or better than) "flavor of the month" min/max cookie-cutter builds.

Some folks have voiced concern that the addition of a new class just puts Spell Crafting further down the priority list, and that could be the case. However, integrating the spells and abilities from this new class into ESO might be just the sort of challenge the developers must be able to tackle and summarily overcome if Spell Crafting is *EVER* going to be a viable future addition to the game. In my opinion, the addition of the warden class could make Spell Crafting more likely, not less, if the integration of this new class happens with as few balance problems as possible.

So really, rolling out the warden class properly could potentially pave the way for Spell Crafting in 2018. Spell Crafting is the only system they've wanted to implement since the original PC release, but have not yet. Back in 2014, there was no dueling, no TG, no DB, no IC, no CP, no TU, and several other two-letter abbreviations that weren't implemented in the original release version of ESO. Other than *just* adding new zones and expanding/balancing the existing game systems and content, adding Spell Crafting is the only prospect that injects new variety to the way we play the game, now that 4v4v4 battlegrounds are coming. Spell Crafting could be 2018's big "chapter." What else is left on the idea board other than Spell Crafting, now that we're getting wardens, battlegrounds, Morrowind, and the Clockwork City?

I'm glad they're adding the Warden, but it brings up a hilarious scenario for me. I've haven't played ESO in a while and have been thinking of coming back, but because of the Warden announcement, it's going to be a couple of months. See I've always favored the D&D/EQ1 Ranger in terms of rpg class, so now the Warden is the only one I have any interest in playing in ESO. So basically, they did something positive and now I'm not playing because of it. Just makes me chuckle a bit.
