Prediction - CP 180 to CP 200 Gear with Morrowind Expansion

If they increase gear CP levels, I'm most likely out of here. Considering the horrible experience that is the ESO loot system, I can't even imagine grinding all my gear back again.

If they fix the loot system, then maybe I'll stay.

Considering they are talking about Morrowind as if it's a completely separate game, which it is, since you don't need ESO to play Morrowind and vice versa... it would make no sense to start Morrowind at an artificially inflated level. Instead, I could see them increasing Cap at some point after the release of Morrowind.

That's why im buying tempers like crazy the last months^^
It kinda helped that i don't need to save gold for housing since it horrible from what i have seen on pts.

Tempers aren't going to help you when you need to grind the gear.

Has anyone in this thread actually spent time grinding for BiS gear? It's absolutely awful and sucks out all the enthusiasm you have to play the game.

Hmmm I really don't think this will happen but if they do raise the CP on gear then they need to gives us a few months warning so we can start preparing because regearing up 8-12 characters is going to be very expensive. Plus if they do this then they need to fully refund all gold/purple tier mats when deconning gear.

If they do increase the cap, they had better include ways to upgrade existing gear to the cap, as well.

The only way a gear increase would make any sense is if:
    • Crafted gear became BiS
    • They changed the loot system

As of right now, the grind is so insane there is no way I am doing it all over again.

I'm fine grinding for a new set every few patches, but forcing us to regrind EVERYTHING at once, especially stuff like vMA weapons would be a step too far.

They already said the gear cap wouldn't be raised again.

I'm sorry, but you are not correct to my knowledge. They stated previously that they would not be doing that frequently as with each DLC. As you can see from the below interview from August of 2016, they stated that they would not be doing so "anytime soon" but that they do consider this as part of the progression just as they raised it when cap went from VR14 to VR16.

    http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/821/feature/11088/Elder-Scrolls-Online-Dungeon-Improvements-Making-Content-Accessible-to-All.html

That was before One Tamriel. They have stated in more recent interviews, the Twitch Stream linked in this thread for one, that they don't want Arbitrary Player Gates. Gear Caps are just that, an arbitrary gate that serves no purpose and goes against their new vision for the game.

Can't they just increase the CP cap but keep gear locked at 160CP?

You know like; "Fear thee not, citizens of Tamriel, for I, Uncle Sheo, hath increased the CP cap to (insert generic number)! But, as I have a heart more golden than cheese, the Cheese Point cap for gear will remain at 160! Now, with my blessing, you can still improve your overall abilities and have a tad more health so you die a second later! Hah!"

Crap, it got buried on page 1. Might as well quote it here to see how other people feel about Uncle Sheo's idea.

That is exactly how progression is going to be in this game if they want to keep the player population happy.

There is no reason to increase the Gear Cap. All it does is create a grind where everyone ends up right where they started. All the PvP will have the same levels of gear, and all the PvE mobs will be buffed to the new gear levels so combat will be no different than it is now. A bunch of Drama and Stress for absolutely no gain.

Another thing to think about, Materials. We already use 10 times the materials going from CP150 to CP160. Do you really think any player would stand for having to farm 20 or 30 times the CP150 Materials to gain an incremental level of stats? That alone would kill the game.

There is absolutely no gain to be had in the gameplay or balance or character prowess by increasing the gear cap.

Progression is done through the Champ System now.

Besides, all they have to do is add new Gear Sets to keep the gear treadmill going.

I know you are opposed to it as you have posted previously many times that you are. That doesn't however mean that It's not something that they would consider. I think an expansion is the perfect time for a gear reset and the pursuit of gear often keeps me playing games. In my personal opinion it would be a good thing for the game over all to periodically do this and they have always reserved the right to do so.

Are you aware of how long it takes to grind endgame gear right now for just one character? Anyone who has gone through that cannot possibly endorse a gear cap increase.

June would be about 2 years since the last increase, no? Seems likely.

Certainly won't stay frozen at CP160 gear forever - I expect periodically we will see new sets and new materials. Would be surprised if Morrowind didn't introduce new materials for higher level armor and weapons.

When they said that with 1T they got rid of "arbitrary level gates" and "player separation issues" I can't see how regrinding for the same gear you already have for the sake of meeting a new cap that you already passed 300+ CP ago wouldn't be both "arbitrary" and cause more "separation issues".

And if you simply made all expansion gear sets superior then you'd definitely be dividing the player-base, not to mention trivializing 90% of the game you just spent such much effort making relevant again with 1T.

Something being unbalanced in 1v1 does not imply that it is balanced in group play.

I'll add, at this point, there isn't much reason to keep the x10 modifier on 160 gear. That really, probably, should just get rolled back to 150 costs+1, like all the previous tiers of gear.

    Your stuff. Can I has?

The game has to progress at some point. New gear. New rewards. New levels. Very likely the Morrowind sets are just as good or better than VMA.

If there's no progress, people will get bored and leave. If there's no (better) gear in the new content, nobody will ever DO it.

oh god, no. I'm guessing they will increase CP usable cap (like, its going to be 600 with housing, and might be 700 with Morrowind) and I would imagine add new craftable/drop sets, but I'm hoping they will keep all the existing stuff still viable and gear cap at 160

Many said the same when they went from V10 to V12, then V14 and V16. Each time I have seen people on the forums demanding a refund of all their gold mats, etc.

But they eventually became interested in the new sets and new materials, new build ideas etc.

We already get a level cap increase every quarter, plus new gear sets every major patch. The sets don't have to be a higher level to be relevant.

Increasing the gear cap forces you to regrind ALL your gear at once. That is way too much grind.

If you've ever done the grind for vMA, monster shoulders, dungeon weapons (like BSW staff), and Infallible Aether/Moondancer weapons, you'll know it takes 1000+ hours of non-stop grinding.

What would be the point? Everyone would just grind to the new level and we would be back where we started.

With hundreds of hours of new content coming out, why force us to grind for new gear instead of enjoy the content?

It currently takes 500-1000+ hours to grind all BiS gear (vMA, vDSA, trial gear, dungeon gear, and monster shoulders). They would essentially lose their entire endgame population with a gear increase as no one is going to want to go through a new 1000 hour grind. It's one of, if not the longest, grinds in any MMO.

Doesn't come close to the FFIV grind...

People are complaining that overworld PvE is too easy, normal dungeons are too easy. If they raise the level cap, they are going to have to adjust all the bosses, mobs, dungeons etc again besides add a new material tier.

If they do it only for the new game then the old game would stI'll be too easy.

If they do it, they better make a way to upgrade current gear. Regrinding gear is not new content, it's boring, not fun and not compelling. I have enough to do in the game without that.

If they do then they had better add a proper token system to vMA and dungeons so that people can save up and just buy the gear they want with the trait they want outright after a fixed time investment.

If they do that the re-grind wouldn't be so bad. It is BADLY needed regardless.

    Yes you are...

I can say with certainty I would stop playing the game after a gear cap increase. The grind for new gear takes way too long in this game.

vMA is just a small part of a BiS set.

    Imagine:

    250 hours for vMA weapons
250 hours for trial gear (including weapon)
    150 hours for monster shoulders
    100 hours for dungeon gear

That's 750 hours of grinding, assuming average RNG.

Absolutely no way am I going through that a second time, and I don't even have everything on that list.

    • Standalone DLC that doesn't allow subscribers to access as previously promised.
    • Greedy gear grab and gear cap increase to that everyone HAS to buy the expansion (to be competative in PvP)
    • New gear and materials probably only available in Morrowwind in a very grindy fashion (1000 mats per piece this time?)
    • All previous trials, gear vendors, PvP rewards ignored and not updated to max level for 6 months after expansion hits.
    • Another stupid pet class.

I think its time for an ESO break. This is looking like the last straw.
