Character progression seems backwards

I was reading another thread and about CP cap and realized the way we do character progression seems backwards.

The way it is now all of our 8 to 10 characters are the "Vestige". They all do the same plot and kill Molag Baal.

But once they get to level 50, all characters are suddenly one and the same level, and all experience counts towards the CP of all the other characters.

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't just one character have to do the main quest line, and Alts start out at CP10? Then in end game each character has a different skill set and specialization, but the experience they gain should only go towards that character, not every other character.

This would solve a lot of the problems of how fast CP should be rewarded / expanded. If you are a "casual" player you would probably just have one max CP character and you could still enjoy grouping with other max CP players. Then if a person is on the level of semi-pro they would be able to play many different characters at max level because they put the time into it. If they are bored with DPS they could work up a

This would also solve the problem of now useless CP10 - CP160 materials, items, and kicking players who are not CP 160 because even dedicated players would have one or more characters at that CP 10 level.

I guess it's too late for Zos to implement, but this would have made a lot more sense.

Well actually, you've touched on a logical idea that ppl discuss a lot

Usually its wrote, let all my alts start at level 50

Cause we are scaled it doesn't technically matter BUT i'd only say that when creating an alt, it makes sense to give each alt the option to skip to level 50 or play through.

    Opinion of coarse

    *Edit for clarity*
I'm only talking about character levels tho not skill lines

I think the obvious reason its not like that is skill lines

If you think as character as just something with a number next to their name and class, maybe.

If you think of a character as a new person entering the world that gets to live their own "hero's quest" in it, then no.

I'm still waiting for ESO to add the 'instant level 50' token to the game. They tend to follow almost everything that DCUO does, and they just added this feature a couple of months ago; I'm sure it's coming soon.

ZOS wants you to think of each character separately. Horse training yada yada yada ETC... GUESS WHY? $$$.

Leveling a character from 1 to 50 also gives you the opportunity to level up abilities. Staring at 50, would only be different in that you had all your skill points.

As per leveling CP individually on each character... Nope.

The main quest is not a requirement. Prior to this most people did the main quest to access the other alliance zones for further leveling their characters. At some point, they even removed that requirement so one just needed to do the last quest in Zone 5 to access the other Alliances. And, now with One Tamriel, there is no real reason to even do the zone main quest on alts other than you want to. I took my first 4 characters through the MQ because they leveled before One Tamriel, but my last 6 I have no intentions of doing so. Well, I did take one that was max level one evening just so I could have all the quest rewards in CP160. They are just as underwhelming as they were getting them while leveling.

However, people have been asking for Templates since this game came out. I sympathized with them up to a point in the early days when each Vet Rank took multiple millions of Exp to gain. But now with One Tamriel and the Champ System, it's about 10 to 15 hours to go from L1 to Champ Rank. Barely enough time to learn all the nuances if you ask me. If you can't spend 15 hours learning your new class and race then you kind of need to play another game.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

You didn't mention that not doing the Main Quests they'll be losing skill points, as completion of each of the Main quests grants a skill point. Also, now there is no 'level' spacing between Main Quests, so you can do them back to back... it really doesn't take long at all, speaking of the 'Prophet' quests, not including the Coldharbour Main quests.

You clearly have no idea how much time "casual" players spent playing this game ...

I am not missing those skill points on the characters that have skipped the Main Quest. Most of them have excess points to use up and nothing to spend them on.

Anyway, your right, I am giving up 10 Skill Points. But that is not enough to do the Main Quest.

No, perhaps when you're already at higher levels you won't miss them, but early on, depending on what class you're running, you may need those extra skill points. Early on you need points for class skills, weapon skills, armor and race passives. There are some alts that I had spare skill points early on, others I needed more points for- it all depends on the class you run. For new players, those extra skill points would be more imperative because they don't have the high CP that vets do, and those early Main Quests are a fast/easy way of getting quick skill points. Let's also not forget about needing points for Legerdemain, Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, Fighers Guild, Mages Guild, Crafting, etc.

This is the way most MMOs are. New characters are new characters. And it makes sense really. It wouldn't make sense for you to create a new character only for them to have completed most of the game already.

The game is about storyline/questing. As ZoS said themselves it's a traditional style MMO. It's not about leveling characters.
If you can be anything, be kind.

I have a new way of leveling with One Tamriel. Skill points are not an issue anymore.

    1. Pick a zone, grab Every Skyshard in the zone, do the quests only for the Delves that have Skyshards.
    2. Do the Public Dungeons and Dolmens in each zone, hit up some World Bosses if they are convenient.
    3. Ignore all other quests/content until CP160.

I hit L50 with 64 Skill Points from that, and it takes 5 to 6 zones so I get another 26/27 Skill points from the Shards so I am at 90 Skill Points at L50. I get Mages to L10 or close to it, and Fighters to L10 with a few dolmen group runs. Throw in a few more zones and I have all the skill points I need.

I have to say that with this new technique, I never get into SP Scarcity like I used to going through the zone/MQ content. I remember around L20 having all kinds of skills I needed or wanted to unlock on no points to use. Now on the current character I am leveling, he is at L25 and has an extra 12 skill points and literally nothing to spend them on. I do avoid Morphing most skills at this point as it more important for me to hit L50 with a character I don't have to grind anything on and I can take Magic or Stamina as needed. So, I rotate more skills through the bars more for leveling than for actual production. But, I could Morph all the skills I have and still have one or two points left over.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
