I'm still waiting for ESO to add the 'instant level 50' token to the game. They tend to follow almost everything that DCUO does, and they just added this feature a couple of months ago; I'm sure it's coming soon.

The main quest is not a requirement. Prior to this most people did the main quest to access the other alliance zones for further leveling their characters. At some point, they even removed that requirement so one just needed to do the last quest in Zone 5 to access the other Alliances. And, now with One Tamriel, there is no real reason to even do the zone main quest on alts other than you want to. I took my first 4 characters through the MQ because they leveled before One Tamriel, but my last 6 I have no intentions of doing so. Well, I did take one that was max level one evening just so I could have all the quest rewards in CP160. They are just as underwhelming as they were getting them while leveling.
However, people have been asking for Templates since this game came out. I sympathized with them up to a point in the early days when each Vet Rank took multiple millions of Exp to gain. But now with One Tamriel and the Champ System, it's about 10 to 15 hours to go from L1 to Champ Rank. Barely enough time to learn all the nuances if you ask me. If you can't spend 15 hours learning your new class and race then you kind of need to play another game.

Then if a person is on the level of semi-pro they would be able to play many different characters at max level because they put the time into it.
You didn't mention that not doing the Main Quests they'll be losing skill points, as completion of each of the Main quests grants a skill point. Also, now there is no 'level' spacing between Main Quests, so you can do them back to back... it really doesn't take long at all, speaking of the 'Prophet' quests, not including the Coldharbour Main quests.

I am not missing those skill points on the characters that have skipped the Main Quest. Most of them have excess points to use up and nothing to spend them on.
ZOS wants you to think of each character separately. Horse training yada yada yada ETC... GUESS WHY? $$$.
Being logical doesn't factor into the greed.
No, perhaps when you're already at higher levels you won't miss them, but early on, depending on what class you're running, you may need those extra skill points.
