Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

What size of house can you afford right now?

I can afford one large house right now, but that's it. My current plan is to go ahead and do it, then buy one of the small ones to act as a furniture storage facility. That way I won't be taking up bank and inventory space on furniture items that I haven't decided what to do with yet. :)

It looks just like Fallout 4's settlement build mode which is a massive time sink. What happened? Did the sims trademark the fast and easy way? Placing every single item in first person takes an insanely long time.

I will be saving my coins until I see a value in what is implemented.

I have a few issues that I need to see play out before I deplete my bank account.

    1. No storage
    2. No armor or wepon display possibilities
    3. No bank or Guild Store access (without crown purchase of banker)

    And the most important one:

UNGODLY amounts of materials to craft even the most basic of decorations!

I'm not sure if this is an oversight or a calculated measure with the purpose of removing thousands of hoarded trait materials, but why on earth can you make a Heavy Armor breastplate with ONE Nickel stone, but it takes 1684633234664 of them to make a basic nightstand?

I have almost ZERO interest in housing as it currently is being rolled out. I may just go for the most simple house, put a training dummy in it, and call it an afternoon.

Who cares? They gave no reason for anyone to come by and see your house anyway...

You're not playing any character in the sims. You're playing the mysterious, incorporeal, unnamed entity that builds houses for some unknown reason and orders people around. ;)

It will depend on crown store pricing, but the current plan is to buy one of the large homes with gold. Yes, I could afford a manor (all 3 if I liquidated some inventory), but that's a lot of gold. I mostly care about a place for some achievement trophies and a test dummy (or 3).

If the Manors are a lot cheaper than I think they will be, I would consider buying one with crowns. Just really hard to justify 3.8 million gold. That took a long time to accumulate. If our guild wanted to buy one for a guild hall, then I would certainly contribute.

I love these people who are all "I have millions of gold but I'm not spending it until storage" or whatever reason.

I can't help but wonder, why?
What exactly are you saving that gold for? It's not real gold.
Why is it important for you to hold onto your millions of virtual money? Most of the people with many millions have hundreds of tempers etc and all gold gear.
It's not like you need to worry about gear or anything. Why are you so miserly with money which has no value outside the game?

Real or not, that gold is still a symbol of time invested. In-game gold represents a lot of effort farming and trading (or so I assume, being relatively poor myself), and most people want to feel like all that effort earning the money was worth it.

Personally, my bafflement is more about the people who don't intend to use the system at all because it has no "function." Housing is pretty clearly intended to be a vehicle for furnishing, which is essentially a new gameplay system just like the justice system was. That is literally its function. ESO is a game, and the entire point of the game is to play around in it, which is what housing and furnishing will allow you to find new ways to do.

Ah well. Their loss for not letting themselves get immersed into the world, I guess. :D

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

Because I would rather spend my coin on something I find VALUE in. Tempers for upgrading my alt's gear comes to mind as an example.

I have the funds because I was hoarding cash for the roll out of housing. With the current roll out I will be spending my in game coin elsewhere. I was holding it for something that didn't pan out for me in the end. No complaints or rants - just a shift in priorities.

I tend not to sweat the little stuff anymore - and EVERYTHING in a video game can be considered little stuff.

    3. No bank or Guild Store access (without crown purchase of banker)

Well... the Crown Store banker does not have Guild Store or Guild Bank access. And the Crown Store Merchant does not repair. So the services that you can offer in your home--even if you had spent the crowns on assistants--will be able to match the services available in town.

Quick tip. You can very easily get at least 20k a day just fencing stolen goods. Only reason you can't get more is because there's a limit on the number of items you can fence in a day. So you should be able to get just about any of the smaller homes you want with just a few days of "redistributing slightly borrowed goods".

Yeah, I've got a couple of toons that are doing that already, it's how I got where I am. Advantage of altaholism, you can get a few of them running those "borrowed goods". Just gotta get some levels so I can increase the limit a bit more.

I got the coin for a medium house but nothing i have seen so far about housing really interests me. I was really hoping for storage & inventory organisation (like mannequins for putting complete gear sets on.) to be in housing. It just strikes me as silly that you can decorate your house with a dining suite.. but not be able to sit down at the table (unless you summon your phantom /sitchair). ;)

Actually, they made the chairs functional in homestead. All of them. Even the ones already in the game. ;)

As for storage and mannequins and such, that sort of thing will probably come later. Right now I think their focus is just getting the main structure out the door.

I can afford a large home and I had my eyes on the Riften one. But after watching a preview of it I'm starting to think it's not really good value for the price. So I'm leaning towards buying the small Rift home and save up for the Pact manor.
