Can you make a good healer build without using Restoration staff?

Don't care what class. But ofc. think of Templar :)

But can it be done?

The thing is you're missing out some great passives as well, not only the active skills. You can go Templar or Nightblade (NB has at least 1 HoT 1 AoE HoT and 1 Ultimate HoT by class) but as mentioned earlier, you're missing out Magicka reg and the passives from Resto Staff.

Why don't you want to use a Resto Staff? Because it's too generic?

You would also be losing out on the best heal in game aka Healing Springs
That is your main healing spammable, also combat prayer which is so so needed in trials. So unless you are going to be sitting there spamming BoL and healing orbs, good luck. Your magicka sustain will be nonexistant.

I wouldn't suggest doing healer without resto staff.

    stam healer?

The idea have been around since the first days of vigor.

An easy set up could be 5 redistributor + 5 senche + choketorn. Maybe DW. And echoing vigor

Class, DK slotting any earthen heart skill to give minor brutality to allies, recover stam and get res back with an ulti.

    Ulti, replenishing barrier

    A simple set up:

    vigor
evil hunter (crit chance + cost reduction in RoP)
Igneous weapons (to give major sorc and brut)
ring of preservation (to roll dodge, since you use senche's)
    stalward ally/deadly cloak/shuffle/igneous shield

    Ulti Replenishing barrier
Sarcasm is something too serious to be taken lightly

I was born with the wrong sign
    In the wrong house
    With the wrong ascendancy
    I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
Used the wrong method with the wrong technique

Yah its the thing. i know i will miss out on a lot. But with the right sets i though it would be fun to try.
Standard healer is very generic and boring. i almost always run some out of the box builds :)
And i don't think i will be doing trails anyway.

Normal dungeons, it's easy to heal as a Templar without a restoration staff. Nightblade may be an option, too... Maybe Sorcerer with the Twilight pet, but only for self-sufficient group that only need a healer for emergencies. Dragonknights are great at mitigating damage, but I don't think Cauterize and Stone Fist would be sufficient healing, sadly. (I am actually hoping someone will prove me wrong with this one).

Veteran Dungeons... Here I would not join a PUG as a healer without a restoration staff, or run the DLC dungeons. If any tank is self-sufficient (one who enjoys the final boss fight of vDSA using the "tank taunts all four miniboss adds far away from the group" method) and all DPS are self-sufficient and all comfortable with vMA, then you could do these easily... But then you are putting most of the responsibility on the other players, so you need to bring something to the group to show why you should even be there.

Normal Trials, I have solo-healed all of these except Aetherian Archive on my Dragonknight healer (and I don't think AA would be an issue, we just always had a second healer interested, and since you can't run it with less than 12 people...) So you could certainly be the second healer in normals, if the first one is comfortable with the trial, but again, you will need to bring something nice (buffs, dps, something) to justify using the spot at that point.

Veteran Trials, no. If you don't have Healing Springs, bare minimum, there is no point to joining as a healer. If you wanted to run these on that character, it would need to be as a dps/off-healer.

These are of course my opinions.
Why be normal when you can be better?

    Lady Kalila, Stamina Templar DPS
    Stands-in-Danger, Nightblade Saptank
    Zalarah, Stamina Dragonknight DPS
