Why would anyone want that? If you want to roleplay a homeowner doing repairs either buy a house in real life or /hammerwall.

For anyone who plans to answer the poll with "Yes, I wanna RP as Bob the Builder!":
Care for a game of Minecraft? Or may I interest you in some Terraria?

They said they will never ask to pay a rent or upkeep after you bought the house, which is pretty much what this is. Especially if the best reason for getting a house is to have all crafting stations close by in one location. They will only consider adding this when they add storage options, which is also not going to happen.

Ugh... It's annoying enough in real life when something in the house breaks. I don't want to deal with that kind of nuisance while I'm trying to escape reality.

Housing and the furniture that goes with it will already be expensive enough, we don't need any more costs.

Negative reinforcement is, psychologically, a less rewarding experience than positive reinforcement.

Houses are already designed as a massive gold sink, and I believe there are much better ways to design MMO economy to prevent hyperinflation, than having large upkeep costs (which this is a suggestion towards).

We already have gear repairing, which hits the sweet spot between being a gold sink, yet not one that is too detriment to the experience.

So, no, not a good suggestion - there are many other suggestions for preventing hyperinflation, and I'm actually bouncing ideas for a new forum post about this.

    ^ Yep, that.

I prefer townhomes irl because the idea of doing maintenance on a house makes me break out in hives. I don't want to deal with that in my games.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

Unless the express purpose is to free up the best spots in housing areas, the answer is unequivocally no. Upkeep doesn't provide any long term commitment prospects and doesn't give players a reason to play everyday. ( I can say this definitively by virtue of having stop playing the games that required it.) Aside from that purpose, it's pretty useless unless it's a gold sink.

Even that purpose is pretty useless.

People might jump on this if you could get a "fixer upper" for half the cost of the in-tact house, but the grind to fix it, I can imagine the time consuming grind...just..gods no. No more money pits.
