I was planning on making my house have all of the set crafting stations but now that we see that the attunable crafting stations cost so many of the master writ currency it's looking more of a dream than something attainable.
  • willklippsteinb14_ESO
well...of course, don't get me wrong, I love that homestead is here! but to get any real use out of having a house, you must be filthy rich or a master crafter, which go hand in hand to be honest, its just a way for the richer to get richer! training dummy and the attended crafting tables are useless to those of us whom aren't crafters....granted ide love to have a dummy, but its crazy expensive, and its just not worth it in my opinion. Im just saying that houses are useless to anyone whos not rich or a master crafter. and we need more functions to come from them, so that more of the player base can have a use for all this new content that they worked so hard to make us.

DAOC: Neighborhoods, vast area, many decorations and trophies, personal seller at each house, global search for those sellers, many kiosks from teleporter to crafter to merchants of every kind, vaults, personal + house vaults + guild vaults for guild houses.

If they could have taken that old mmo's housing and taken to the state where mmos are today it could have been glorious.

    Personal seller would be epic.

Welcome to housing in every other MMO?

    Wrong...

Other housing MMO's have the following:

    Battle Arena (inside their house)
    Phased instances (inside their house)
MINI Games (actual developer mini games) where you can WIN cosmetic items which can be placed on your land
Rest XP when sleeping in your bed (or logging out inside your home)
Growing your own fruit and veg - crops on your land which you can harvest every 3-5 days depending on rarity

I'd go on... but yeah you are very very mis-informed matey

Except it doesn't. Was surprised I could sit in chairs but not lie on a bed. And not all chairs are interactable, at least in the pre-furnished versions. We'll see if they add that to later PTS builds.

As a master crafter, I'm only gonna buy a cheap house to stuff the IC crafting tables in and whatever else I have room for :p

It's a better deal for roleplayers, basically

That's actually a good idea. I forgot about the IC crafted sets. I was mulling over which stations to build at my house, now I know which ones I want.

tbh they are fun on the pts because they cost nothing, but when it is my gold...... nah.

If there is a quest to get one, I will do that quest. Then I will leave it in disrepair.

Welcome to housing in every other MMO?

Not every other MMO, SWTOR allows you to store your items in a bank at your house, and it also is a quick travel option that is faster for you to travel to and jump back to your ship rather than going to the space port each time..

In ESO it is... A LOT of money... what you can use it for I would guess is RPing?? I honestly have no idea what the good point of housing is hahaha!

It provides a whole new element of the game for those who enjoy immersing themselves in the design and fitting out of their housing. It's a complete playstyle for some people, just as playing the markets is for some others.

    @Tandor

I absolutely agree with you. I have spent many, many hours fitting out my Yavin 4 Temple in SWTOR. When I was playing SWTOR last I was pretty much doing just two things: 1) grinding credits to buy stuff for my Stronghold, 2) Targeting content based on known decoration drops. So even when I wasn't actively in my Stronghold doing things, what I was doing was facilitating and funding that.

But @katiesmith12341 is also correct in that SWTOR housing allows you to do ALL of that and so much more.

I can place three types of Vendors / Traders in my SWTOR that allow me to trade crafted "tokens" for specific Decorations.
I can access my Personal Storage.
I can access my Shard Account Storage.
I can access the Galactic Trade Network (AH) via a GTN Terminal.
I can have a Modifcation Station for adding/removing Mods to my gear.
There are several types of NPC trader I can add, all of which can repair my gear or purchase "vendor trash".

Now, I know from before I took a break from ESO, and since I have returned, that you have concerns about the Trade Kiosk system, and how it denies some players access to "the market". Housing could theoretically be used to resolve that by allowing is a "personal kiosk" in our Homesteads. Even the urban based homes could have stall/kiosk attached to them.

I like where Homesteads are as a starting point for housing in ESO; I would be bitterly disappointed if how they are now is as good as they ever get.

Housing with no storage will basically make houses useless. Unless there will be some other benefit resulting from owning a house. If it will be pure cosmetics then most people will not even bother sinking gold into it.

I hope it will have some functionality...

    Welcome back!

I certainly have concerns about the present trading system, and would like it to be opened up to non-guild members if only in a limited way. It's certainly the case that housing could be used to that end.

However, I'm also concerned that housing doesn't become the place to do everything in the game otherwise the cities will become dead and new players will get the wrong impression about the game's popularity when they log into what will appear to them to be an empty world.

aesthetics are great, but kind of pointless if there is no reason for others to see it. Not many people seriously RP, and there is currently ZERO reason for someone to visit your home and see all the hard work that you have done. That is my real disappointment.

    Thanks.

    I see your point.

There is a solution to that I think, but one that ZOS seems to have half used. In almost all of the major towns and cities there are "empty houses". If the "front door" to those houses was used as a gateway to instanced personal housing New Players would see lots of people going in and out of building in existing areas of activity. Allow the fronts of these houses to be dynamic, so that those properties with "useable assets" (Craft Stations, Trade Stalls etc) have appropriate Signs and Banners and every major settlement will be busier, and have a more competitive trade market. If possible let people using those assets do so without having to enter the instanced part of the house. Buyers and Sellers both win, New Players see busy quest and social hubs, and players have more reason to invest Gold and Crowns into Homesteads.

Why spend 1.3M on a house that has no functionality?

As Firor explained in rare, remarkable moment of utter honesty: functionality of a house is that you will have a place to put stuff in. Obviously not stuff you have, but stuff you will buy with dollars.
And pray Darth Matt does not alter the deal any further. You could end up with some functionality and therefore having to spend either gold or dollars. Then he could alter the deal again and settle on dollars only.

Or small cabinets that are strictly for (idk cooking mats) I mean....who stores a banana in a bank instead of their house? These aren't must do's im just saying give us a reason to buy the house if we aren't master crafters!

I honestly never thought there would be storage with their housing. This would pretty much make the bank useless; let alone the bank and bag upgrades. I also sub so the craft bag made my bank practically empty. Until I hit cp160+

However, what I did expect were some armor and weapon racks. Since I passed 200 cp I have tons of armor and weapons that have quickly filled my bank space. If I want to PVP I have to run to the bank. PVE, run to the bank. Trials, run to the bank.

Armor and weapon racks would have made this so much easier and not interfered much with the profits on sub or crown store bank and bag upgrades.

I had really hoped that the housing would have been your one stop before going out on a new adventure. Repair your items, grab new gear, craft some pots, head out.

Don't get me wrong, I will probably still spend money on the housing, but it is a grave disappointment.

It does have a functionality: sink your gold and/or your wallet.

Also a time sink, to keep us logging in. This is Phase One of housing, just to get us used to having it with minimal usefulness, and the need to devote hours decorating or using crown shortcut. Later phases will include all the functionality everyone expected now, but tied to labor and RNG intensive requirements or conveniently offered for crowns. In other words, zos will find a way to give everyone the houses we asked for while at the same time making (even) more money off the community.

I think that was a big reason they went with One Tamriel, people were saying the game was dead when in reality everyone was divided into so many instances that we never saw each other. With what some people are suggesting we will all be in our houses with no reason to leave, making the effect even greater than it was before One Tamriel.

I seriously doubt that ZOS would do anything to further enable that any more than they already have.

There is a solution to that I think, but one that ZOS seems to have half used. In almost all of the major towns and cities there are "empty houses". ZOS needs to hire you.

Storage space on the other hand is a benefit that does not cause you to spend much more time in your house but would certainly make home ownership worthwhile. But, there are many things people do for storage now that makes ZOS money, such as buying additional character slots or additional accounts. I doubt they will want to impact that. If they did introduce storage, I could see them putting that behind a pay wall of some type.
