You really want that the only new "content" we get for the next couple of month is "ready" after a few days? Like thieves guild, soth?
Yes its is fun playing around with all items and it will be empty (when you dont buy a ready house by crowns) but for me its ok. My house will be a longterm project
AdamBourke wrote: »I dont think it should be available at once.
But it should have enough there to be fun when it launches. And i dont think there is enough. People should want to spend a few hours playing with their new homes - and i think a lot of people will run out of things to do.
You should be able to fill it with cheap things to start with, and then get better things as you progress.
E.g. wooden plates cheaply on day one, metal plates after a couple of weeks, ceramic plates after a month or two, and glass plates after a year when you finally get that legendary recipe drop.
It just doesnt make sense for it to be such a grind when many of the objects are literally all over tamriel already... why do i need to go find a kuta when i could realistically just go and pick up that fancy cup from emerics house when no one is looking?

And it's great! The housing editor works really well, and I enjoyed furnishing the little room I got free (and later one of the medium houses). I managed to make an extra floor and a ramp leading up to it, for my bedroom...
But... with so many of the items so difficult to obtain when the game goes live... people will be able to place like... one item a week or something. That is not going to be fun, and i think you'll find people not using housing very much, rather than going to the crown store as this seems like it is designed to do...
The cost of gold materials is going to skyrocket (so PvPers will hate this update even more), and no-one will be selling furniture on the guild stores at reasonable prices because of the costs involved in making them.
I'm... i'm not really looking forwards to it anymore tbh. I'll get the inn room because they're free and see how it goes. But I was going to buy a medium or large house from the CS... and now that seems unlikely.
How much will they cost anyways, @ZOS_GinaBruno. If a cup costs four hundred crowns, and the furnished options come with cups...
We are going to see the first crown store items over 10000c aren't we?

Fair point, who needs chairs when you can buy thrones from the achievement vendors. A regular table? Not for me, thanks, I'll have the dragon shrine alter. And why would anyone want a gold cup when they can set out a touch of plague from Deshaan for their guests instead? There are also plenty of braziers for all of your lighting needs. Not sure what I'm going to use for a bed, but there must be something at the achievements vendor that will work if I rotate it the right way!ZOS_GinaBruno wrote: »Fair points, @AdamBourke. Don't forget you will be able to find a lot of items from vendors and accolades on the first day - provided you have the appropriate amount of gold - and you can trade items with other players too!
How long term are we talking Gina? Like really, I've been playing for over 2 years (3 come April) and there's no way I have enough mats leftover from outside normal use (I don't sell my mats.. ever) to fully furnish a medium sized house to my tastes.
On another note, the complete lack of previews for gold purchased/craftable items is almost scaring me away.
If I craft an item after I learn the design... I am essentially just throwing my mats away if I don't like the item. Why? Because once I actually place it to get a good look... it's bound.. so I can't sell it. Even worse, I can't deconstruct it, so there is 0 chance of getting any of those mats back.
OP - I actually pretty much had that talk with a friend earlier. It's fun and games on PTS.. but on live you likely won't know many recipes (they definitely seem rarer than provisioning recipes to me at least) and you need to burn a ton of mats just to see what the item looks like (let's ignore the whole fan based websites for a moment).

We're actually working on a way to preview furniture. It's not currently on the PTS, but hope to get it implemented for launch.
I'm a bit in the same boat, though I'm far and away more concerned with the Regulus, Heartwood, etc. costs than the lower-tier upgrade materials. It would be one thing if they actually dropped from every node (and in appropriate quantities), but you get at most one from every node (or two with that one Champion passive), but usually you get zero

To OP or anyone who didn't see it yet, Deltia put up a list here: http://deltiasgaming.com/2017/01/07/eso-house-achievement (comments thread at https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/313511/housing-achievements-shown) now might be a good time to work on achievements to purchase these items when housing goes live.

I see this as part of the "drive people to the Crown Store" aspect of this. Ultra rare furniture materials while we are buried to our eyebrows in armor and weapon materials.
I have lost a lot of my enthusiasm over housing in the last few days, to the point where I cannot even get the energy to log into PTS. If I bought a house, it would just sit empty, so I really see no reason to bother.

I would feel the same way except that the Crown Store furnishings aren't even competitively priced, for the most part. $0.10 for a tree is totes fine, but $4 for a tiny cup is like, hella ridonculous. I'm totally fine with furnishings on the Crown Store, given that this is a free base-game update and nearly everything is available in-game, but I didn't expect the pricing to lack this much fine-tuning and I didn't expect the base-game procurement methods to be as bad as the Glass Motif grind. Even if the only change was to make Heartwood, Regulus, etc. drop from every node instead of every 10 nodes that would be a step in the right direction.
Wait, gold upgrade materials are used to craft furniture? I had no idea. This seems like a terrible idea. Why not just create a new item like "gold bar" and have it used to craft the furniture instead of already overpriced tempering alloys. You could have them drop from dungeon bosses to incentivize running them.
