Considering a switch to PC

Shabzilla

I am currently an Xbox player but I am wanting to switch to PC, mostly due to the add-ons provided. I am currently around 330 CP on the xbox, so I am hesitant to lose that progress. The newest patch notes state that CP is easier to level and I'm curious how much faster it actually is.

Would switching to PC be wise?

There is but one question for you: which of the two would you most enjoy playing the game on?

I would prefer PC due to the add-ons. I use to game all the time on PC (back in the Diablo 2 days). I have seen that the PC supports the xbox elite controller as well, just in case mouse/kb isn't my thing.

For me it would be the skyshards, books, levelling skills and other stuff that would cause me to hesitate. Slap on some Psijic Ambrosia, Training trait gear, and if you are lucky a bonus from a Festival event and you will level pretty quick.

If you find 1 other person to grind with you get full XP, at twice the rate.

The addons really are great for the most part.

PC supports all your standard console features, peripherals and you even have a console UI if you feel like it, although not entirely recommended with some addons, but it works for the most part (some tweaking may be needed).
So you can basically have your experience you are used to and have the extra features you are after, heck, you can even run steam in big picture mode to have a console like UI for your desktop and games if you want to take it a step further and only use a controller and nothing else.

As for progress, getting to CP 400 is really quick even now just playing casually, and you will notice that it's even easier with addons (despite what "fanboys" tell you "oh it's cheating, oh it's only for noobs, oh I'm only saying it, but if I had the option I'd use it in a heartbeat anyway"), it just makes the quality of the game much better, more streamlined and open.
Give it a try, you might like it, but still keep your old account ready in case you feel like switching back.

I played on Xbox One, went to PC went back to Xbox One. While the graphics are nicer on PC it all depends on the PC you have. While I never used mods or ad-ons, you might have a lot of slowdowns you might not be aware of from Xbox One. Just wanted to bring that out.

So it really means is it worth for you to have those ad-ons? It will take you a while to get you where you are now. Good thing is, you won't loose your Xbox One character and it will always be there for you when you want to come back.

So question is, how much are you willing to pay to get these ad-ons? Also how much time are you willing to redo everything as well?

For the game to have worse performance and slowdowns than XB1, you really would need to have a 10+ year old tater.
My wife plays on a bogstandard Acer laptop with i5 5200 and GT 840, 8GB RAM and performance is buttery smooth on med-high settings, even in Cyrodiil (except for latency at times), and that's with about 20 addons running.
I don't even think they manufacture PC hardware that would be incapable of running ESO in this day and age, even from the budget range.
Heck, it's even playable with Intel graphics that go with the i5 5200, even though on lower settings, 30 fps is reachable and thus, more than playable.

Nah PC is full of bugs, OP/broken add-ons and according to these forums, a horrible communty too.

Xbox youve got your nice big tv, good graphics no worries about upgrading your PC all the time and already over 300cp.

How would YOU be able to detect an incoming channel or heavy attack occurring from stealth a second or two before it happens? Do you run around every second chugging detect invis pots or have your magelight up every second/minute/hour? Why even use magelight now that you have addons that give you advanced combat notices? or how about detecting a group of people who are currently stealthing in an area, positioning to take a keep? Think you can do this just as easy without an addon? Lol.

Unless ZOS does something about addons and pc server performance, it's going to kill eso. Not sure how the Xbox cyrodil performance is but it can't be worse than pc. PC is probably worse. Probably more PC users clogging up cyrodil than on Xbox. Stay on Xbox, a place where some skill is required and addons don't l2p for you.

Not sure if you're into PvP, but it's more more extreme on pc with macro slicing, adding, and such. It's the only drawback to pc from console.

Starting on pc doesn't mean you have to abandon your Xbox account and friends. I've found it easier to deal with the regrind by playing on my PC account only when I'm enlightened and or there's a double exp event. Otherwise, I stay on ps4 where my friend are and my account has more tools for me to have fun.

Tbh xbox and ps seem to have a much bigger population ( both pvp and ESPECIALLY pve )

Pc performance blows console out of water but console seems much more populated

One controversial PvP addon doesn't negate all the other great addons that are available on PC. Is the OP even asking about PvP?

OP has clearly already looked into the addons available on PC and finds them attractive, his question being more about how long it would take him to get back up to his current level/cp.

I started playing with an Xbox one... I changed to a PC, anAlienware using 4k support.... Graphics are wayyy better, loading and lag seems better too.
I use the Xbox controller and console UI, theres even a mod called BetterUI that makes the console UI better!

However, I have a Geforce 1080 with SSD, that may be the reason Im performing better on a computer than Xbox.
It all depends on the computer you plan on playing.

@Egonieser Just going to play devil's advocate and ask how miat isn't cheating lol?

Miat aside, I actually don't have a problem with most add-ons. Fact is they add a massive advantage to the game. While many of them should be standard features (buff timers, better guild merchant support etc...) a few them force ZOS to make balance decisions that have a larger impact on console than PC. One example is the add-on that shows you the specific spawn locations of treasure chests or resource nodes. ZOS has to adjust the rewards that come from these locations knowing that players with add-ons will have easier access to the nodes/chests than originally intended.

I think it depends on where you like to game as well.

ESO is a game I like to play for hours on the couch with my girlfriend in the same room. Not at a desk upstairs. That's very personal but something worth considering. Yeah, you can hook up a PC to a TV and all that but logistically that's not really an option for me or many others.

I think graphics look good enough on console. Rarely do I see a significant FPS drop. The "22 FPS" comment annoys me. Really, the game looks great on PS4 and certainly good enough. That's all I have to say.

Add-ons might be a huge miss. But so far I haven't really missed anything.

I know this might be weird to say but I'm glad this game doesn't has a minimap. I really do. This is the first MMO I actually have a greater feeling for the world around me because I'm not staring at the minimap half the time. With games like WoW I was often navigating on the minimap and not looking around.

Of course, other add-ons might be very helpful on PC. But what you don't know, you can't miss.

The reason I play ESO because I wanted to play an MMO on a the console in my living room and ESO was by far the best option for that. If I wanted an MMO on PC I'm pretty sure I would never given ESO a try.

My girlfriend would go crazy if I spend the same time behind the PC in a different room from her and to be honest, I would as well. I think this (the place where you like to play an MMO) and the lack of gaming PC are the two factors why people like to play ESO on console.

Arguably PC generally is the superior platform for ESO, but that doesn't mean it's the superior platform for everyone.

I would in no way recommend a switch based on Add-Ons; which are third party creations, which after updates may go days or weeks before being brought back up to date to avoid conflicts, and some even simply die because the creator lost interest. One thing I deal with with all the add-ons I have is the constant update cycle to ensure bugs are remediated. Not to mention occasional conflicts with the game itself; people talk about the benefits but do they talk about the down sides? Not so much. I have a number of add-ons that make things very convenient; like finding shards/Mages guild books however information like this can also be found online.

Leveling is a LOT easier than it used to be. I've played on both console and PC, and I mostly play on PC now due to the add-ons (though I miss the built-in voice chat). But leveling really isn't that hard anymore. The biggest pain is getting the skill points, but the Skyshards add-on and One Tamriel really helps a lot with that. You can get a ton of skill points just from going zone-to-zone skyshard hunting.

330 Champ Points? You can get that in a week or two. Achievements, no one else sees them so only you know what you have there. It would be Trait Research and Motifs (exotic and rare ones) that would be the determining factor. That and maybe any extensive Crown Store Purchases.

Your kind of at the tipping point Champ Points wise, as from here it starts to take noticeably longer. Go much farther on the console and your going to be in a situation where you just don't want to leave.

Here is what you do, look for a sale, I think you can get the game for $20 in some places. Install it on the PC and try it out. If you like it stay. If you don't, you at least have an alternative account you can fire up if the Xbox Live service is down.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It's not cheating because ZoS has given it the green light. They looked at it determined what it could do and decided it wasn't a problem with them (at least for now). Their game, their rules.

Now I don't think the portion of the add on that tells you when someone is targeting you while they are stealthed should be allowed to continue, but I don't make the rules, so I can't call it a cheat. I might call it unfair, but then being killed for 30k damage in under a second from stealth is also pretty unfair. I could talk about "unfair" and "balance" for days.

In regards to the chests locations and what not, you make it sound like people had no way of recording this before addons. If not by simple memory of the locations, then even pen and paper would suffice. When TG came out, I had nearly all the locations of the Troves memorized in Wrothgar very quickly. Enough to make an effective circuit. No add on needed.
