Wouldn't it solve all the gear RNG problems if armor trait and weapon trait mats were consumables?

Imagine that the armor trait and weapon traits were also consumable. Meaning that in some way these existing items could change a trait on an item we have in our inventory

I'm open to additional ideas of how these could be consumed even if not crafting but for the obvious reasons, it would seem this is one idea to address the RNG negative feedback in various experiences.

You presume that ZOS sees all the rng as a problem. Evidence supports they clearly do not.

From a player point of view, this would be a fantastic change. ZOS is absolutely in love with their RNG system that takes, days, weeks, months, forever to find what you're looking for. I may have to pass this account on to my great, great grandchildren to continue the hunt for the sharpened weapons I'm looking for. If I call it a family legacy, that sounds cool, right?

@BigBragg they do see it as a problem the problem is there isn't enough RNG in the game yet.

They'd then proceed to nerf the good traits into the ground, stopping just short of making prosperous best in slot.

I'd rather have a few desirable traits that are unpredictably acquired than average traits across the board that are easy to attain. It's a crappy system, but there are even crappier systems than the one we have now.

If you get the gear you want in the trait you want, you'll stop grinding. RNG is not an accident, nor random.

Pretty much this. The game has no item progression outside RNG.

This wouldn't be an issue if there was a clear line of progression from solo to group to raid. But I don't think this playerbase could handle that.

If BiS items were from trials.. these forums would get livid.

imho that's a pretty shortsighted and dangerous path for ZOS.. after a certain amount of frustration from seemingly endless grinding players might stop playing eso altogether and move on to more rewarding games! And they might even drag a few friends along, who'll also be lost as customers!
My friendlist of eso-players became really really short in the last few weeks, so short that I'm tempted to move on and might well do so soon..

From time to time players must be rewarded for their time invested in order to motivate them to keep playing.
The current RNG does neither protect against some people getting "what they want" in a short amount of time and, according to the mentioned theory, stop grinding/playing, nor does it protect against some unlucky players getting frustrated and leaving ESO forever, maybe even dragging some others along...

Here's a nice breakdown of percentages, problems and suggestions: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/305700/math-of-rng-problems-suggestions/p1

@ZOS_GinaBruno ZOS, please rethink your Lottery-like RNG-system, and implement something that's fair for everyone. Fair in the sense of getting a reward after a certain amount of time invested, not in the sense of everyone's getting a tiny chance that almost always results in more rubbish for deconstruction..
You get rewarded for your work invested at the end of the month, don't you? Or do you all get lottery tickets, so a few of you get to be millionaires and others get paid a wagonload full of wooden sticks and stones?!?

If only traits were single, non-stacking buffs and in effect from inactive bar too.

It would solve both trait imbalance and vMA insanity.
