Can we please fix mounts running/stopping constantly?

This has been a thing for literally years.

Every single time you go over a bridge, cross from grass to rock terrain, hit a tiny bump or elevation difference on the ground, your mount loses all forward momentum and you have to speed back up again.

I found it is much worse and happens a lot more when the map of Cyrodiil struggles to load on console.

Perhaps it is related to the general weak game performance? Not sure.

Either way it'll probably never be fixed unfortunateIy :disappointed:

I have noticed this as well. I think this is not only mood breaking, but game breaking as well. Crossing the bridge in Morkul Stronghold is the worst of this IMO. It's just plain painful on a mount to cross that bridge knowing that every bump resets the speed. I usually just take my mount up the ramp that I fathom the orcs use for towing cargo up the hill? That ramp has no bumps that I have noticed.

Maybe the Cyrodiil road workers union went on strike with the carpenters but you are right . Movement speed seems slower too again on foot .

I remember when that stutter, stop and go, movement got introduced with patch 1.6 and it's never been back to smooth riding since.

They have addressed it at least once, (which is why you can just walk/run over the small walls in Belkarth while on your horse now) but I don't recall which patch it was in. After that fix, it's been better than it was with 1.6, but it's still horrible in many places.

I don't know what the movement/ground terrain code is, but it seems like it just needs completely reworked. Creatures do funny things on the ground (like crooked standing/awkwardly walking dreugh), there was (and still is a bit of) an issue with terrain causing gap closers to use resources but not actually move you, issue with drifting along the terrain many yards as if you're sliding down a hill. Those are all post 1.6 issues that have never really been resolved - the biggest and constant pain being the horse movement.

They can't fix it, cause then people would get even more of those chunk loading screens in cyrodiil :p

I don't know if it's just confirmation bias or not, but my senches don't seem to suffer this anywhere near as badly as my horses do. Those bloody nags will trip over a grain of sand I swear...

I have noticed this even when my character is not on a mount. I can be walking along and hit a pebble and my character just walks in place. The most frustrating one is the ice platforms on stage 5 of vMA - you run to a platform and your character gets stuck on the edge of the platform and won't go up. Then when you jump to get on, sometimes you just jump vertically in place, like there is an invisible wall that's keeping you from getting up on the platform. The whole time you are taking damage from the water, and there is usually a troll in the process of breaking the platform, and you can't get to it right away. It's very frustrating.

I know you have to prioritize but really, take some pride in your work people! Plus when selling mounts on the casino has basically become the bulk of your business model, you might actually make sure mounts WORK.

Sorry if it sounds like I am really frustrated with this STILL being a thing, but it's probably because I AM.

Feel free to ignore me if I didn't ask nicely enough, but as a paying customer for 2 years, can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE WITH KITTENS AND MEMES get an ETA or even acknowledgement of this already.

    *sigh*

The answer would appear to be,

    No, no we cant.

It's interesting that you mention that because it was worse with the senche's than the other mounts and they specifically had a patch address the senche mount stuttering (patch 2.1).

However, if you go to (for example) the Shatul Wayshrine in Wrothgar and run up the hill to Orsinium, both the horse and senche will constantly slow and speed up. Similarly, going west from that same wayshrine, both horse and senche stutter going across that bridge (and the bulk of the bridges in Wrothgar).

That Wrothgar bridge issue was really bad before the other fix where you wouldn't just slow down, but actually stop.

It got way worse with the TG patch when they messed with collision to stop people from using sloped terrain to negate fall damage. That's also when the whole falling super slowly on the edge of an object or hill bug got worse.

A lot of times, you're running into NPCs and other assets that haven't loaded yet. ZOS can't 'reproduce' it because they aren't stuck with crappy connections to the server like players are. I'd imagine their 'pings' aren't consistently in the triple digits right there in the office, so they don't have to deal with the same garbage we do on a daily basis.

I think they actually said they noticed the reduced speed, just that it was fine because it "affected everybody equally." :D

That is most definitely NOT the case. My ping never goes above 72ms. Also it isn't a full stop, it is a constant slowing down at every minor terrain change.

It is also not the global speed reduction they acknowledged. That definitely is an issue, but a separate one.

I thought it was just me, but I've noticed the same thing. At first I thought for some reason the senche was faster but then I realized it seemed to not be catching every little terrain difference and slowing as often.

About 1.6 they nerfed major expedition and of course screwed up character and mount speeds badly on console.
I play both PC and console and my character non sprint movement speed is twice as fast on PC, wasn't that way before the nerf so can't blame it on hardware.
The constant horse slowing down when it hits a pebble is more pronounced on console also.
I vaguely remember a promise they were looking into it but like so many other problems got buried under the rug.
Personally I think they did it on purpose to improve frame rate or more like we don't notice slow frame rate as much. lol

I agree, this is a very annoying issue. Also, annoying are the jumping mechanics. For example, whe you jump on a sidewalk, if you don't do it in a direction that is perfectly perpendicular to the edge of the sidewalk, you slide laterally in jumping position, apparently retained by this tiny elevation while your character's jump already took him above the elevation. And of course, you land off the sidewalk, so you have to do it again.

And similarly, I already tried several times to jump on a roof in some city to escape guards who (mistakenly, of course) thought I was a thief (I just happened by chance on a lost item that was forgotten in a noble man's pocket), only to be frozen in jumping position and slowly slide on a layer of thin air, unable to move until I finally fell off the rooftop.

These things aren't game-breaking, but they surely can make navigating in some places quite tedious, and become very annoying.

This bug was re-introduced with the Thieves Guild DLC in March of 2016 and has not been acknowledged since.

I've also tested this extensively, posted videos, etc. Horses are affected more than Senche's. I've actually had to stop riding horses because of this.

The only way to fix this is to have graphics that look like WoW.

You'll notice in WoW this never happens. That is because there are no stairs, or high edges in WoW. Everything is flat and shaded to look like it has depth.

In games like ESO the wood boards say on a dock are physically there so the the engine has to take that into account and sometimes it doesn't handle it well. So if you want that horse to never have an issue fall back on looks by 10 years. This is why you can essentially run WoW on a potato.

That's not true as it was fixed once before. Then it was broken again.... So we know it is possible.
