    High price point limited release mounts serve two masters;

    1. The people and there are several who lurk these forums who want to buy their way to something unique and special. This appeals to their inner peacock.

    2. Pushes people to crown crates which is a higher profit generator.

That's a poor analogy. This isn't about premium mounts being cheaper in other games; this is about inconsistent store pricing in this game. If Starbucks started randomly charging $5 for coffee after consistently charging $2, and people continued to buy their coffee, then yeah, they're suckers. I can buy two full freaking DLCs in this game for cheaper than this mount. Are you people HONESTLY suggesting that the Elk Mount is indeed worth more to you than Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild COMBINED?

As can be seen in the game, yes, people do feel that the Great Elk mount is worth more than the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild combined.

I also want to point out that ZOS is not randomly charging 4500 Crowns for this mount. They are very deliberately charging 4500 Crowns for this mount.

Yeah, I've seen them too... How did that saying about fools and their money go, again?

I have about 10 elk mounts in Dragon Age Inquisition so if I do feel the need to prance around on a horned beast I can sate myself in Ferelden.

Anyone who purchases this mount is absolutely a sucker. CDN $50 is almost the price of an entire new game. Think about what you're buying, here: it's an object that gets you from point A to point B. Is that equivalent in value to an entire new video game?

I agree that the price is outrageous but I was prepared for this one, bought crowns when they were on sale and can live with a $19 price tag for a mount.

And yes it's worth that to me. Visuals are super important. Otherwise there'd be no character customisation, different armour and weapon styles etc. Several of my characters look fantastic on this thing.

You and everyone else who don't have crowns banked and are stuck looking at this with a $45 price tag on it - and at Christmas - have my deepest sympathies. It seems unlikely they'll change the price but I hope for other peoples' sake that they do or at least put crowns on sale.

Things in stores aren't necessarily priced according to what they cost to make. They're very frequently priced according to what people are willing to pay for them.

Starbucks could sell their regular, most basic coffee for $2 and another variety for $5. The $5 cup might cost exactly the same or even less than the $2 one but being a limited time offer, and seeming 'fancy' in some fashion, some people will buy it despite or possibly even because of the higher price tag.

I understand how exhorbitant pricing of "exclusive" products works, and why companies do it. I'm just saying that if you buy this mount (even if you bought crowns on sale), you're allowing ZOS to take advantage of you and setting a precedent for future grossly-overpriced items.

I appreciate your concern (and I'm being sincere about that), but I don't want to buy this mount for 4500 crowns -- not even if crowns go on sale between now and the end of the mount's run. I don't want ZOS's bean counters to think it's appropriate to set a price point for a mount that is higher than two DLC packs combined.

There is also a 3. The people who simply like it and want it, who don't think the cost is too high because they have so many crowns/ so much money they aren't going to miss a meal over it. For those people, it's just a tiny entertainment expense like buying movie tickets.

However I am concerned the main purpose for the higher price may be to set a new "normal" cost for exclusive mounts in order to make crown crates more attractive. Which they will never be, to me, because I want to choose what I pay for, and apparently will have to pay a premium now to do it.

Not sure it's the main purpose but "crown inflation" in certainly part of the overall plan. Now that people sub mainly for the crafting bag, it makes sense to devalue the crowns a bit in order to push people to buy more of them. Crowns being on sale on a regular basis is a nice thing, but don't let us get fooled : it's part of that strategy too.

What we would have considered "overpriced" a year ago will soon seem pretty normal and people will not care that much about high crown prices because "crowns were purchased on sale" anyway.

Don't want to pay that much, don't get it.
It doesn't bring any advantage whatsoever, so even if it was 20000 crowns it would not matter.

PS : I want it too, but to that price I'll pass.

I dunno about the rest of you but by this stage in December I can barely afford Ramen noodles.

ZOS sure are showing their generous Christmas spirit by charging that much for an average mount right before Christmas.

Walmart still accepts returns! Your kids didnt need ALL those present anyway... return a few and get some crowns! Better yet, just return half of them and try your luck with some awesome crown crates too!

I'm going to go ahead and call it. I have been around Rawl, Grahatwood, and even Vulkelgard the past few days and I think I have seen maybe 4 unique individuals sporting the mount. One of those I have seen at least 4 times but I think I have only seen 4 possibly 3 individuals total. I don't think I am going out on a limb to say that the Elk pricing scheme was a flop. If the pattern for past flops (ice horse, clouded senche, and palomino specifically) holds expect to see the Elk in the crown store crates soon along with the other mounts which were very nice mounts but priced or otherwise marketed very poorly and so sold few.

Chalk one up for me in guessing this one would bomb. You all got me last time on that dro matha senche that sold well when I thought it would bomb but I figure I am still up a bit being right on this one, the ice horse, and the clouded senche.

What is next up on the list of mounts? Lizards? Lamias? Kwama? Mantikora? perhaps fire atros? I for one would really like to see spectral ones like Arvak from Skyrim.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

Man so this company very often tics me off with the crown prices

I know it's nothing people are forced to buy and I behave accordingly. Here's the gripe tho

There is little to nothing highly cosmetically appeasing that's attainable outside of real money.

    That's my frustration

This is exactly what people cried about with the Gambler boxes. I saw 5k crowns multiple times on what people would pay. Market is set by consumers

Exactly, every time I see someone with the elk mount I just shake my head and silently mourn for yet another victim.

I`m one of the people who was lookin forward to an elk mount and may have affected the price outcome by being hyped about it before on the forum... Then when I saw the price I sort of quietly said "uups" and my hype died.
Also the elk model in my eyes really started to get little faults like "wonky legs" , "something odd about the face >:) " and "texture looks a a bit lon the low quality side "- things I very propably would not have noticed/tought of if it had been for about 2000 crowns as I`d expected ;) .

This was before even hearing that it has no toggleable upgrades, o.o.
And I did get a bunch of crowns when they were on 40% sale. Still decided no to buy .
Yeah, just reporting my toughts as a customer who very propably would have bought the elk and also might have been less critical about its looks, if it were for a reasonable price.
