i remember meeting nice people far more often than idiots in this game.

on the topic of ww/vamp, my first char got it in Rift: someone spotted two group of werewolves and annouced the location in zone chat. and invite me to group to show me the exact position.

when i later wamt to get vamp bite, i went to Rift again, explored at night and found nothing, others asked for bite on zone chat, some people offered free bites, some for vamp and some for ww, i was late for it so i didnt get one. but then i went to Reaper March, asked in zone chat again. and once more someone spotted wild bloodfiends and told everyone the location.

Was finishing up quests in Malabal Tor tonight and was doing that quest where you have to find instruments in some werewolf camp along with a spinner quest. Anyway, some guy just standing there letting werewolves beat down on him, but i needed behind them to get one of the instruments I needed for the quest, so did what anyone would do, clear the path. A minute later s/he whispered me and the convo went something like:

Other Person [OP] Leave me alone
Me: What? I'm doing quests in the area, so don't flatter yourself
Op: I'm trying to get a WW bite
Me: You're in the wrong zone, the last time I looked you could only get them in Reaper's March if you're wanting an npc to bite you
OP: Stop trolling me and wasting my time
Me: Ok, sorry meant no harm. Just warning you you're wasting your own time as it's not a case of just fighting any werewolf, it has to be specific werewolves, on a full moon, in a certain area.
    OP: I'm reporting you

I wasn't abusive at all, never swore and other than the flattery comment I inserted into my first whisper, I thought I was actually being helpful. No doubt the person is still there attempting to get his WW bite.

I have had this before, though it was about crafting. they claimed that crafting was too hard to level. i explained how to do it with ease and i got told i do not know anything...apparently being a master crafter means nothing to kids now days lol.

God forbid someone should have the audacity to post something that isn't about crown crates, housing, scrubs in dungeons and proc sets. Why? Because I got 1 bit of info wrong (I'm assuming by your response I did). The long and the short of it is, He was in the wrong zone, using the wrong npcs. I gave him all the info from the top of my head and like everyone else that uses these forums, I'm not infallible. I don't claim to be either. I also didn't give him/her the specific area too, because i haven't got a clue where that is, doesn't mean I was trolling them with that too. Whilst I have appreciated in-game help in the past, I didn't expect to be spoon fed the intricate details. Some of the onus was on me to seek out a more detailed description or instructions. Like anything in-game, there's only so much you can do before the other person has to help themselves.

quite sure op was not trolling.

werewolves on full moon nights is quite oft quoted in the google results i found. it was believed that werewolves spawn on full moon nights, and bloodfiends spawn on other nights. but it was later on proven to be wrong, and most players are unaware of moon cycle anyway.

I'm inclined to agree. I see it as the illusion of altruism. Sometimes people do 'good' or 'nice' things expecting to be thanked for it. So they're not doing it altruistically really. They want to receive the self-satisfaction or some kind of good Samaritan award.

It may or may not be the case with the OP. But if he/she was truly out for the other persons good. He/she would not have cared if the person accepted or declined the advice. If somebody was doing something purely altruistically, they won't care if 'they can or can't be helped.'

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a toxic personality, though.

Just that I think maybe some people haven't really learned the true meaning of selflessness.

I'm of the 'maybe he/she didn't need help, because I hate receiving unsolicited advice. It's a power display that always involves making someone submissive to the other's 'wisdom' and 'knowledge.' Even if I ended up trying to get a bite that didn't exist. Eventually, I would ask for help or look it up when I was ready.

Edit: I catch myself making that mistake sometimes. I do try to be mindful, by asking a person things like 'would you like the advice of an experienced crafter?' if they ask for 5 pieces of medium julianos or something.

I don't mind being called out if I have provided the wrong info and hold my hands up if I am indeed incorrect. Never been a werewolf, never sought to become one and as such, it was a long time ago I read up on the ins and outs of becoming both a vampire and WW. The other person got the general gist.

Ad hominem fallacy. Attack the person instead of the argument.

    I'll just rephrase:

I believe that players should have the right and dignity to play the way that they want. Free of unsolicted advice. I have learned from my experience that players tend to be more receptive of advice when a person first asks if they would like it before giving. Using the words 'should' instead of 'could' give off a dictatorial vibe that can put a person on the defensive.

It looks like the player didn't trust your advice. Maybe you could have done something to change your approach?

Next time start with "You were in my way.". Then when he told you he is after a WW bite say "When you figure it out remember I was laughing at you." When he threatens to report you say "Go right ahead." Then kill his WW attacking him for a few spawns then be on your way and say "report that".

Attacking your argument rather than yourself would insinuate that your post was more or less made up of an argument rather than what it was, a lot of assumptions based on my personality. Heed your your own advice or does your "Ad hominem fallacy" only extend to others and not yourself? The usual pseudo-intellectual nonsense people hide behind as to make themselves feel superior to those they are talking down to. Ironic really.

    Yes, unsolicited advice is awful.
    Yes, that player wasn't polite.

I suggest this is due to the whole scam that's been going on for so long about WW bites. Players would try and trick newbies with *anything* to have them buy bites at horrendous prices, including preventing them from getting bitten by "natural werewolves". I think the player has mistaken you for one of those - it's merely a misunderstanding.
