Will equipment CP raise?

It makes no sense to raise the gear level after One Tamriel.

What does make sense is letting player crafters increase the level of existing gear. Right now as you level, you get a lot of new points to spend, but overall become weaker as your gear needs to be replaced.

I personally would like to see crafted jewelry and a way for master crafters to change the traits on BOE or crafted items.

If it happens there wont be an upgrade system, that's just dumb.

We will all go back out and grind the new gear.

    That's how it works.

They said it won't be anytime soon. I just hope it never comes.

Instead of forcing players to grind the horrible RNG again, I prefer them making new content, and gear set OR raise the CP cap if they want to make the game easier.

A lot of people will quit over this after thought because raising the CP cap of the gear essentially ruins the achievements and efforts countless people make.

I thought the CP system is really smart, so there's no point in messing with the gear...

Wasnt one reason for the CP System introduction to stop level cap increases, since it annoyed people so much due to then worthless gear that was upgraded to legendary etc that needed endless farming prior? That is basically replaced by grind for cp now, as new way of improving.

Going from CP160 "'Max gear level" to let's say CP180 "max gear level" is basically exactly that, an equivalent to max level increase.

If they do this, the rage will be beyond measurement, just thinking about the monster sets or new Tamriel One sets farming (or basically everything, anyone has farmed to this point, will need to be re farmed)

Not to mention how much work is included to make everything scale to 180cp aswell and adjusting battle leveling, and and and.

    Yes.
CP160 is equivalent to the old VR16, which is now over a year old.
I know One Tamriel is the newest update, and many new sets got introduced, so I don't think they will bump the gear cap with Housing, but I would not be surprised if we got gear cap raised in the second quarter.

At that point, it will be almost two years with gear of the same power. (third quarter will mark approximately two years).

It will happen. And people will leave. And more people will start playing. Such are MMOs. Expecting zenimax to do things different is somewhat naive. They don't exactly have a great track record of being innovative.

The jump from 150 to 160 saw a 10x increase in mats needed to create new gear.

I shudder to think what going up any more would cost in mats.

I think when Vvardenfell was datamined new mats also were found. I would assume new mats would fit above rubedite which would mean that the gear cap of CP160 would have to be raised.

Edit: How can an MMO like ESO with a ton of map still to be filled in the coming years already have all the mats it will ever have? Still farming rubedo in Skyrim region of ESO in 2018 or 2019? Timing is something that can be discussed but I don't see ESO staying at CP160 for its entire lifespan going forward.

I dont think i have it in me any more to farm/grind for new sets, so i'm hoping they stick to cp160 for a wee while yet.

They should just make all post-50 gear exactly the same level. That way you are ready for endgame when you 50.

They have already shifted nearly all of the progression focus to CP itself, gear sets, and skill lines. This is good.

Most MMOs do raise the level cap but often with a real reason and additional skills become available at the same time. Zos has gone a differnt way and just raise level cap because they feel like it b

With a recent emphasis on scaling, normalization, and horizontal progression, raising the gear cap would seen counter-productive.

Most likely it will with the next big expansion. ZOS has history of using grind as replacement for content. Don't get me wrong I don't mind some grind, but ESO is really at the extreme end of it.

Personally I'd be in favor of a time-gating system that updated as the game progresses to supplement the grind. Take VMSA for example. Add a currency with a weekly cap which is awarded each round, with the later rounds awarding more. Get enough of it over the weeks and be able to purchase Maelstrom weapons in whatever trait. That way there is at least an end in sight if drop don't go your way.

How does an MMO without a grind or RNG look and function? Does one even exist?

How fast would ZOS keep having to pump out new content?

Without RNG how do you keep players running content while waiting for new content?

and it likely will not stay at CP160. Few, if any, MMOs keep the level cap stagnate. ESO understands why and will raise the cap.

Did I say to remove grind?

I simply suggested having alternative routes that were time-gated to obtain gear, so that players could at least at the end of X time frame get the gear they were after.

I dont think it will. The way they are introducing power crawl is through the cp itself as well as new sets and the quality system. Not to mention their whole outlook on the game is play where you want how you want when you want. Adding more power gates to that philosophy just doesnt make sense.

I don't want it to happen because of how important to most of my builds dropped sets are, and how RNG is in this game. I don't mind crafting my crafted sets again, but farming all my dropped sets again... Not really my thing, not with this game's RNG.

But I doubt that ZOS will keep the gear cap for much longer. Keeping your players farming gives the illusion of the game having more to do than it actually has.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Haven't they already converted max lvl gear to the new max when veteran ranks were removed? I would assume / hope they do the same if they're ever going to raise the equipment CP.

The gear cap wasn't changed when the Veteran Ranks were removed.
They just added a zero to the existing gear, but no actual adjustment was made because the cap didn't actually increase.

The cap increased three times during the life of the game. VR10 to VR12, then to VR14 and finally to VR16. The existing gear wasn't bumped up to the new cap on any of these times.
