Why do people buy motifs?

I'm wondering why people spend so much time and money to collect Motifs and style mats when it seems like everyone looks for dropped sets and a not crafted sets. End game builds all seem to be dropped with the exception of TBS. Its sad the crafting has taken such a back seat. I hope they come out with some much need crafted sets soon or allow us to change dropped sets to the style of our choice.

It's because right now, a lot of people are looking for dropped sets. This does not mean it's the only thing they use. I still sport 5 pieces of crafted gear on almost all of my characters.

Anyway, the Pendulum will swing the other way.

And, as hard as this may be to hear, not everyone Min/Maxes and goes for the ultimate stats, whatever they may be.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

What dropped set beats julianos enough to settle with whatever style the dropped set comes with and also considering i have that already in gold (honest question no sarcasm here)?

IMO there are simply alot more sets that could be used in still very viable builds now but i don't think they are so much better as everybody seems to claim but i could be wrong ofc. Either way each their own and all.

Collecting things (in this example motifs) can be quite good fun too. :)
Remember that there are players here in ESO, who don't give a **** about meta and just enjoy the game.
I collect them (but buying only these with nice price) just to complete achievments and have opportunity to create good looking set for my char :)

I'm not bothering with motifs any more. They are very expensive to buy and there is no real reason to own them: I don't craft for a living, and even if I wanted to, dropped sets are all the rage now. Mostly I craft very low level stuff for guildies starting out. I'm wondering why I spend all this time learning nine traits, tbh.

I have a good selection of motifs, all the basic ones, all the hollowjack, and a sprinkling of others that I get as rewards. They don't drop for me, as my RNG isn't designed for that.

Now, if I could craft SKINS that one can apply to a dropped set, maybe using that aetherial dust you need for the new potions, that would be awesome, and I would buy motifs again. If I had to buy DLC with a crafting station specialising in skins, I would do it. If I needed nine traits, I would spend the extra skill points speeding up the time.

I just wear the guild tabard over an ugly set, the costumes don't appeal to me much.

I won't pay the outrages prices either, they usually come down within a month or so. It really doesn't hurt my crafting so it's all good.

For me it's something else to knock out. Collecting all the motifs goes hand and hand with maxing crafting. I spend maybe 20 mins tops doing writs and keeping the trait research 3/3. Then I go do other stuff. It's not ny main focus since it's taking a year to research but it's definitely a priority. The way ZoS is, you never know where crafted sets will be in 6 months. They may be the new op craze and I want to be maxed on everything for that reason.

For along time I did both of these. Not just for collecting but for selling as well. When the game launched I envisioned crafting too be a good way too make gold and that it would enhance the in game economy. Sadly drink recipes are mostly useless as when I craft high level drinks (like lusty argonian) they just don't sell. At least not at a decent price on xbox1 na. Same with motifs. Its hard too craft and sell gear for anything worth the time or effort. Now I just like the idea of being able too craft any style i want and likewise i enjoy giving others the options when i rarely do craft for them.

Plus some of us won't use dropped sets unless they fit the look of our character.

One of the things I enjoy most is mixing various motifs to get a certain look.

You don't need dropped pieces for four person dungeons and I never had any desire to play anything more difficult than that.

Too stressful plus it exposes you to the company of dedicated theory crafters. They're not bad people. Many of them are EXTREMELY smart. But I'd rather spend my time with folks with a broader focus I suppose.

It's simply a matter of what interests you and what you admire. Me, I'm in awe of clever role players who can put themselves and those around them into an alternate world while developing stories that interest and surprise me.
