Fastest way to get Vicious Ophidian or Alkosh pieces?

RNG is not on my side - I've run SO countless times but have had only 2 VO drops, neither in divines. It takes quite a while to complete and I'm tired of running it over and over again.

What's the best/fastest way these days to farm VO or Roar of Alkosh set pieces? Does the scale down method still work (working as intended?). Are there any other ways to get these pieces faster?

Vet AA and Hel Ra also drop VO.
You can also buy or trade missing pieces with your teammates (or even get them for free).
Getting Alcosh set from normal MoL is tricky, but item trading still helps I guess. And all weeklies also drop MoL loot.

I've done well over 10 runs, still no jewelry. Only two pieces, waist and legs, one in Sturdy, other in Reinforced.

    Only 10 runs ever??
You might want to consider finding a trial guild. I'm in 2 and and between the 2 we probably run 10 runs a day. I get VO stuff with good traits maybe once a week. That's 50-70 runs.
Only other advice I have is learn some patience, because it might take a while before you get exactly what you're looking for.

Completing SO on veteran difficulty guarantees jewelry drops.

Completing vSO on hardmode guarantees legendary jewelry.

Completing it on normal does not guarantee jewelry, nor does it guarantee that Vicious Ophidian or Infallible Aether will drop. Those sets are actually of a lower drop rate in normal relative to vet.

So, for the best chance at the best gear possible, complete it on veteran and do it on hardmode. Hardmode SO is actually much easier than the re-vamped hardmodes of HRC and AA, and definitely easier than vMoL, hardmode or not.

Completing it on vet mode gives one legendary jewelry piece, either BoP (Aether, VO...) or BoE (like Skirmisher, Red Mountain...).
Hardmode gives one BoE and one BoP piece.
Also vet Hel Ra without hardmode is probably easier than SO. I saw many groups wiping on Ozara (even though she was nerfed). In Hel Ra theres only one tricky boss, second one on the right side.

Specifically for Vicious Ophidian, here's an older post that I made in another thread:

In normal, it's a 20% chance of a BoP set item on the final boss of all three Craglorn trials.
    • If you get a BoP item, you might get VO, or you might get IA or EY.
    • You might get a jewelry piece, or you might not.
    • The chance to get a VO jewelry piece something like 3-4% in normal.

In vet non-HM, you are guaranteed one piece of golden jewelry on the final boss of all three Craglorn trials. 20% chance it'll be a BoE jewelry piece, 80% chance it'll be a BoP jewelry piece.
    • If you get a BoP jewelry piece, you might get VO, or you might get IA or EY.
    • The chance to get a VO jewelry piece is 26% in vet non-HM.

In vet HM, you are guaranteed two pieces of golden jewelry on the final boss of all three Craglorn trials. You are guaranteed 1 BoE jewelry piece and 1 BoP jewelry piece.
    • You still have an equal chance to get VO, IA, or EY (though sometimes it feels like EY drops way too frequently--but that's probably just bad luck). But you are guaranteed a piece of golden jewelry from one of those three sets.
    • The chance to get a VO jewelry piece is 33% in vet HM.

Normal is ridiculously easy, but the drop rate is also ridiculously low. If you are able to run vAA, vHRC, or vSO, I would recommend running those instead: not only is the jewelry golden (this was changed in Update 11 so non-HM jewelry is golden too), but the drop rate is so much better. From the time vSO was released in Update 10 to when group trading was made available in Update 11, I had completed almost four complete sets of VO jewelry (even though I have just 3 stam characters), and that was just from running vSO HM for weeklies and for sellable BoE gold jewelry. Once group trading was enabled in Update 11, I've been giving away my VO jewelry pieces.

Of the three vet Craglorn trials, vSO is by far the longest with copious amounts of tediously long trash pulls. The difficulty of Ozara is dependent almost entirely on how good your kite team is--it can be the roadblock that wipes your group, or it could be pretty straightforward. But vSO HM--the best mode for drop rate--is by far the easiest of the hard modes (barely any harder than non-HM).

vAA and vHRC are much shorter and simpler trials. But their Hard Modes are very difficult. It's much quicker to get to the vAA/vHRC final boss, but the final boss is not quite as rewarding (unless you want to face the cluster that is their HM), whereas vSO's final boss is a pain to reach, but has an easy HM for great rewards.

My bet is your not running vSO, probably normal. vSO, unless they changed it this week drops jewelry. HM drops 2 pieces of gold jewelry and that much I know is still the case this week.

Divine armor is rarer but more likely to get VO And aether in vet than normal.

If you are after the armor then farm normal Crag raids, if you are after the jewelry then do vSO hard mode, hard modes guarantee 2 gold jewelry pieces, 1 BoE and 1 BoP, SO is by far the easiest of the hard modes. It also helps to have a regular group you run with, playing with a regular group people are far more willing to trade pieces to you to get the whole raid optimally geared as quickly as possible. After your run make sure to link any pieces you have that you don't need and offer to trade for what you do need, people are often willing to trade Ophidian jewelry for Aether.

As far as Alkosh goes, if you don't have a top tier raid team you can test your luck with normal Maw but be prepared for a lot of Worm/Ebon gear and Hircine's resto staves. Your best bet is probably to get as many toons on the weekly boards as you can since every weekly rewards gold Maw gear and has a chance at jewelry.

I think both of you are discussing different strats for the same objective. The side room he speaks of is probably still taking the overcharged, etc, out of the main room. Although kiting the adds down the hall sees be less damage intensive than standing out in the hall or in one of the rooms around the corner.

When I say "kite", I just meant kiting them away from the main group. There are many variations, ranging anywhere from dragging them along on a long sightseeing tour of the Sanctum, to holding position near or even in the boss room, as long as they are out of range of the group.

Let me fix that for you.

Completing SO on veteran difficulty guarantees legendary jewelry drops.

Completing vSO on hardmode guarantees two pieces of legendary jewelry.

Yep. Purple is only from chests on vet if you're lucky.

Farming runs would go so much better if everyone didn't lose their minds over those blasted heavy sacks. 10 trials and you got 2 pieces....you're doing alright. I've done a lot of trials. Like A LOT of trials. And it takes some time to put these sets together.

Doing sanctum over and over gets quite boring. Take the trip around craglorn. Don't do Vet trials if you're not ready. Many people can't handle them and hold the group back. I would also recommend don't PUG a vet trial. It probably won't go well.

Treasure chests in trials can drop anything. Know where they are at and check them!

As others have stated: trials trials trials etc.

I farmed most of my gear before OT when the drop rate was better and jewelry dropped in purple for normal trials. Fastest way now is to run veteran. I get aprox. one pcs on every 2nd / 3rd trial (normal) and that is not necessary with good traits.

I regret that I took a month off before OT. I'm missing a bit of Aether and I'm running trials every day now to get more divines stuff. That said I got a necklace last night and a ring 2 days ago. Both from normal.
