High Elf will give you more Magicka, but Breton will give you faster Magicka Regeneration. I would honestly say High Elf, but it's so close a call that it really doesn't matter, honestly.

My healer is a Breton magplar and I am happy with the result.

Best PvP and PvE race for Magicka Templar is Dunmer.

Stamina is split. For PvP, Redguard is the best for the sustain but for PvE Khajiit is better because they have a giant boost to crit.

I have a breton because I've always mained a breton in all the ES games. That's probably the second best choice for PvP because they get 10% extra Magicka, 3% cost reduction to spells (heavy armour is the Meta in PvP, this passive is great) and MASSIVE spell resist.

Others have mentioned Altmer for Magicka Templar but I've tried Altmer this update, you're better off with Dunmer. Almost the same max Magicka but better resistances, better Elemental damage and 6% more stamina for blocking, better in every way.

Breton:

1. Increases Max Magicka by 10%.
2. Increases Spell Resistance by 3960.
3. Reduces the Magicka cost of your abilities by 3%.

Dunmer:

1. Increases Max Magicka and Max Stamina by 6%.
2. Increases Max Magicka by 3% and Flame Resistance by 2079.
3. Increases your Flame Damage by 7% & Increases your Frost and Shock Damage by 2%.

Atmer:

1. Increased Magicka Recovery by 9%.
2. Increases Max Magicka by 10%.
3. Increases your Flame, Frost and Shock Damage by 4%.

Argonian:

1. Increases your Max Magicka by 3%. & Whenever you drink a potion you are restored 12% of your Max Health, Magicka, and Stamina.
2. Increases Max Health by 9% and Poison and Disease Resistance by 1485.
3. Increases your healing done and received by 5%.

Best for templar healing: Altmer, Breton
Best for templar damage dealing: Dunmer, Altmer
Best for templar tanking: Breton, Dunmer
Best for templar overhealing: Argonian
Best for templar roleplaying: Argonian

Regardless of what role you choose, you can not go wrong with Breton/Altmer/Dunmer races for a magicka templar. Some of them are a tiny bit better at certain roles, however it really boils down to L2/ framerate/lag issues between those 3 races.

Argonians are noticeably worse at dealing damage and their buffs are weak compared to the other races, so it's a big NO if you intend to join endgame content with that character. Because if you are not already acknowledged and well known for your personal skills and proven that you hold your weight - then raid leaders will most likely ask you to optimize by making a new char, or have a race-change.
-If you are already well known for being a great player, and you have already proven your worth and impressed people - then raid leaders don't care, because they know you can play better than most "optimized" players they can get into their group.

For 4-mans group dungeons and pledges any race goes, people don't really care if you can hold your weight and do your role. The community like argonians due to funny and amusing names, they have a tail etc. making a lizard char is a good way of connecting with other people and finding friends.

Breton is actually weak! The magicka resistence is useless, im at 27 why my argonian and defending msa resto already. The cost reduction is bad, too.

Imo Argonian is best for PvE-Healing. The 9% more health will also help you to get to a decent number of about 17k without having to put any points into hp.
Plus Argonians look best.

@Grabmoore That post was the best advice I could give to OP, it was a contribution from my gathered knowledge and experience.

If that matches FOTM, then it is a good thing. FOTM is up to date and effective + popular.
If that clashes with your personal opinion, that is out of my control.

@starkerealm: 7 chars to 50.130 days ingame on my templar alone, stormproof, around 700 cps.
Again, 3% is worthless with max cps, because of diminishing returns. I'd take argonian stats or dunmers resistence any day.


@failkiwi: elemental damage is stronger than a Bit more magicka.

ATM I have 8 characters and a free character slot. I want to make an EP character, but I'm not decided if he will be another Dunmer or an Argonian just for the fun. I'm not really convinced the Argonian passives are actually that good. Endgame a healer will actually have more than enough spell damage and critical to heal anyone to full health from a single BoL, and have really strong ticks from HoTs that would most times make the former unnecessary. A powered resto staff gives 7% more healing, and it's better than the Argonian passive. You can reach 17K without putting any points in health just by equipping a piece of heavy armor (ex. mismatched monster set that gives more magicka/magicka recovery/spell damage/spell critical) and having the heavy armor and undaunted passives. I'll probably make another Dunmer in the end, as pure DD, because the passives are simply better and I really don't like how Argonians look and behave, and I already have the healer spec on my Breton.
