i was in a dungeon we were doing fine burning through enemies, no death and so forth. im in the distance using my "situational" bow at a boss and then the group states that they will kick me (and being quite rude about it too) i don't get this? didn't feel like having a bunch of d**kheads elaborate on it by asking them, but can anyone explain the reason for the bowhate?

If you were only using a bow and spamming light attacks/snipe/poison injection without anything else, then they have every reason to kick you

If you were using it because the boss' mechanics required you to keep your distance (what I can gather from your post) then they are dumb and you should be glad you never have to play with them again

Hm? What were you doing with the bow? That's the question. If you're doing Endless Hail and Poison Injections here and there as part of your rotation, then swapping back to your DW or whatever — then it is the group who is at fault. Not you. You were doing fine, in my opinion. As I incorporate Endless Hail and Poison Injection on all my stamina characters within PvE with a Maelstrom'a Bow.

However! If you were just constantly doing light attacks and a snipe morph here and there, I could in a sense understand the group's frustration. As it annoyed me as well whenever I was in a PUG, and there would be that 1 stamina guy just using bow light attacks constantly and Poison Injections. Followed by what appeared to be Wrecking Blow spam with a 2H. Keep in mind people do this in PvE, and genuinely see nothing wrong with it. Even when explained to them why it's bad. Just thinking about it now irks me. Damn I can't stand those types of people. :#

Maybe something to do with the mechanics of that dungeon, or they were just jerks. If you name the dungeon perhaps someone can provide some insight.

@Wollust Lmao! Bruh, that's exactly what I'm thinking to myself. He had to have been spamming focused aim and or light attacks. He had to. Otherwise a group wouldn't suddenly just change-up midway and give him the boot. It doesn't add up. :D

nope i use lethal arrow the most followed by arrow barrage and poison injecton and heavy attacks to charge the toxic ult. also the boss had frequent large aoe around him which would require 2x doge role often thus burning stamina. this was the first time i have been kicked so i was kinda slack-jawed about it;) they were real obnoxious. the crown wrote: "when we get to the final boss we are gonna kick you:)" and so forth. my weapon dmg is 3190 with the bow and crate is 50.4%

Yes that too! People don't react kindly to being surprised by "tanks" and "healers" standing back using bows instead of doing their role.

Wait... What? Why? Why would you intentionally use those skills as a stamina-based character? I don't understand. Are you aware of how much damage you're missing out on? Also toxi ultimate? Flawless Dawnbreaker is there for a reason, and is also your friend. Use them, and embrace them into your life.

Also, why didn't you just leave at the hint of them being obnoxious or rather unpleasant to play with? That also makes no sense.

i used to use dawnbreaker i didn't like it as much as i like the bow ult. they didn't wait to kick me until the last boss they did it after 30secs of writing a couple of chat messages. I did not intend to stay and take it. either way the outcome would have been me not completing the dungeon due to using a bow. could you suggest another skill set for the bow?

Endless Hail and Poison Injection. That's where the bow skills stop. Use the rest of spaces for something else, in my opinion. Whether it be a heal, a buff, a de-buff, or more damaging skills. Hell, use Caltrops on the bow bar if you'd like (as 9x out of 10 the bow is a secondary weapon to standard damage dealers bars). You'll have more success.

I try not to judge anyone's build until I see how much damage it does. I had a pug show up for vICP with a 2h the other day and he pulled something like 25-30k single target and probably around 50k on a reasonably sized trash pack and died maybe once.

As far as I'm concerned if you are pulling 20k+ single target with whatever unusual build, you are welcome in my groups for basically any pledge.

As far as bow dps, I haven't played with it myself, but if you are getting a bunch of dots out (endless, poison, lightweight trap, etc) and then spamming snipe, you are probably pulling acceptable dps for pledges. Once again for my personal cutoff, as long as you hit about 20k+ single target sustained and good AoE, then you are fine for pledges.

@JakelDK Before I completely abandon thread, I'll post a video to you of my StamDK in action who uses a bow. Hopefully you can try and get a bit of insight as to what I mean about only using those 2 bow skills. Granted this is a video of me in Veteran Maelstrom Arena, but I use this setup in dungeons and trials. Except of course Caltrops being swapped out for something else, if there is already someone designated to using Caltrops. Kind of like how a group only wants 1 Nightmother's Gaze user. And no worries. Video is only like 40-something seconds.

The gargoyle can be DPS'd at melee range so there was no need to be at range. In fact, being at range for that fight is probably the worst thing you can do because as that boss does it's ground smash that you're trying to stay out of, the room collapses which could result in your death. If your healer is good enough, they can heal right through the ground smash AoE. While kicking you is extreme, to be honest, if I had someone using just a bow regardless of their rotation on that fight, I'd have kicked them too.

I used to play with bow as a main-weapon for quite a long time and got good dps-numbers (at least if you consider 25-30k dps self-buffed good). However I have NEVER met any other good bow players. So I totally understand why people are biased against bow users. Most of those players probably think, "well, I played with bow in Skyrim so why not in ESO too". But well, I used to be one of them, so...

The only thing that really bugs me about people who use a bow is it seems they always want to stand behind me when I am healing. I used to try and move so I could see them and still concentrate on the tank but often they would just slide on around behind me again. I want to just let them die then tell them it happened because I couldn't find them but in the end I go soft and hit breath of life wasting my resources just for them.

I have never kicked someone from a group or voted yes to kick (except for long disconnects) but I have a few times after a few wipes told the group I didn't think we were going to be able to finish and then leave myself. My thinking is if I am the one unhappy with the group I should be the one that leaves. I'm always nice about it though when I do go and will give the group a few chances before deciding.

Back to the bow thing. People who use ranged attack please please please stay in front of the healer or at least in his line of sight.

This. As a healer this is why I would kick people for using just a bow. Did vet Volenfell Hard Mode when it came up in the pledge cycle this week and there was a sorc in the group that was using the bow. All they did was use light attacks until they had ultimate up and started using overload. They stayed out of range of my healing the entire fight and were mainly out of my line of sight completely as I had my back to them most of the time. If the berserk centurion went after them and they died, I wouldn't know until I look at the health bars for the group.

    i use dual wield/bow

Same as my stamsorc in PVE (I use 2HD/bow in PVP.) The only 2 bow abilities I use are endless hail and poison injection and I re-apply those as needed. I then go in close using both Deadly Cloak and Huricane for more DOT goodness + mitigation and DPS away with DW abilities + rearming trap and razor caltrops (if no one else is using them.)

There are very few fights where I feel a need to stay at range but when I do, that's my call and my business.

It sounds like your group was just full of feminine hygene products - not your fault.
