ZOS, Please reconsider Crown Crates!!

I have quit and uninstalled this game just like I said the day the news about RNG boxes came out. However, as a former loyal ESO+ member for 2 years, I really really hope ZOS can reconsider this decision at the last minute, or some of us might leave this game and probably other future ZOS products for good.

Just don't buy them. It seems that its all cosmetic stuff. If they can make money off of it, for people who think its worth it, then whats the problem? If it doesn't effect your game at all?

There are PLENTY of costumes/armor to dress your doll up.

If NO one thinks its worth it, they will go away.

I still don't understand the issue with those boxes. Like.. You don't need to buy them so where is the problem?

I get both sides of the argument on this one. Yea it is just cosmetic and mounts but alot of us feel like its going the way of P2W or worse even is that more resources are put into "Crown Crate Exclusive" stuff and less into the actual game.

I am all for cool mounts and costumes but if you are spending your money on something you don't want it to be a gamble and MAYBE get what you are putting money towards.

It does effect our gameplay. These when implemented in other games did generate profits. Going forward, development of further content was tied back to rng crates. Actual valuable content slowed down.

People like collecting items for their characters. It's a major draw of rpg's. Before we could buy things we would want for our characters, now they want to get people to spend ridiculous amounts of money for a chance at desired cosmetics.

I want Argonian stuff for my Argonian character. In July there was items on the pts I wanted. They are in crates now. How many people wanted the red pit wolf? This is designed to screw over people who want specific items. Shouldn't they be able to buy them without being ripped off?

We are willing to pay for content. Who plays an mmo to gamble with money? They have casinos for that.

For those who do not understand, why this is an issue - some people have morals, which are able to distinguish good from beneficial and bad from evil. These crates are not just bad for the game, they are evil in regards to people, who have a weakness like impulse control disorder and they are as well evil towards those, who like to collect things.

These boxes might be good for the finances of ZOS, but they are not beneficial to the game. Development will shift towards more stuff, which can easily be sold via these boxes and less development will go into content, where it is harder to make money with it. The quality of the game will suffer and the only route this additional money will take is into the wallets of the investors. Why?- Because introducing theses boxes invokes the last episode in the lifetime cycle of the game - the phase where you have to squeeze out of the players what you can, because the game has no significant future anymore. Why would they otherwise introduce an abusive method against the will of the players. They know we do not want it, and they give a damn. Mr. Firor said "we are in for the long-haul", but I seriously doubt it. They would not have to trick people into a scam scheme, if they would seriously go for the long-term - you cannot have long-term with abusing players.

ALLOW ME TO SEE WHAT I BUY AND NOT MAKE ME SPEND HUNDREDS TO DO SO!!! Why have you stopped caring about your player base?! Why are you making it hard for RP'ers to enjoy their choice in how they play? Replayability comes in many forms and for a lot of MMO players it can be down to cosmetics! Things were fine as they were!! Now you and ESO are cheap, tacky, cringe-worthy, embarrassing and manipulative. Absolutely disgusting and I hope you deservedly fail at this.

I tried to support you and loved the TES series but now it all looks like a cheap cash-cow wearing clown make-up. You've burnt A LOT of bridges with your consumers and continue to do so. On your head be the consequences. /rant of the century.

I would say the problem is with putting exclusive mounts and items in them not for direct purchase . In a video game nothing is needed . Not even the video game itself . It's all a matter of wanting . A majority of the people have enjoyed the direct purchase to obtain new mounts and costumes . They have no issue spending real money for these cosmetics just don't want to have to gamble in order to obtain what use to be direct .

Its the "I despise abusive methods to drain money out of customers" club. Why do you think, they might not show the crates a 2nd time on the PTS?- Because they are not going to seriously change them into our favor, they just do not want us to know how low the chances are, because the whole thing, with these crown gems and so, is designed to 1. drain a lot of money out of players and 2. let them win all the stuff, which they did not want to buy in the first place - otherwise they would have given you a token to choose another item, when you win and not force you to first take, what you did not want in the first place as a win, before you even have a chance to get eventually what you want after a long time of first having to win what you do not want. This is so disgustingly designed, I can just despise ZOS for it.

I've said this before. If they sold the mounts for high crown prices, but I could choose what I wanted and buy it directly, I would do that. But I will not spend crowns on a chance to have the same item. And I will probably be super grumpy about it sometimes. Because I WOULD have bought it. But I absolutely refuse to support crown crates. To me they are a separate entity from the game. I will support the game. But I will actively go out of my way to not support crown crates. And that is my choice. The rest of you can do whatever you want. And you can think I'm being silly for my view, or I can think you are silly for yours. Whatev.

Was I the only one who stood up at work and started slow clapping at this???

But seriously, how many players that spend disposable income on this game will stop, not because of hate of the game, but for the hate of the marketing.

I will continue to play because its the first MMO I got my dad into and he loves to play it. But if it continues I will have to step away from a franchise that I truly love.... I am not even angry at ZoS, I am saddened.

    Put more simply, it's predatory.

You have an established customer case with a demonstrated weakness - a variation on the definition of insanity: they'll do the same thing, over and over, on the slim chance of a different outcome.

That's okay for game play. Random interval reward schedules have been studied clinically. Even though they rely on addictive behavior, in the case of a game it's a pretty harmless mechanic.

But if you employ this same addictive behavior to charge money for each reward chance, using some faux plea to people's rights to make their own decisions, you are committing a morally reprehensible act.

It's too late now...a shame really. I'll never fall for these gambling boxes not after swtor. I much prefer paying a little extra to buy what I want directly, I don't get why they are moving away from this, just look at Guild Wars 2. I lost a bit of respect for ZoS because of this implementation, gambling with money should not be apart of MMO's. You gamble enough with traits as it is xD

There are a few things which bother me - like why do we have a "gold edition" after just 4 DLCs, if they are "in for the long-term". A gold edition is released, when a game comes to an end soon. The whole thing looks like the game is not going well and might not have much time to live anymore. Despite what ZOS is saying about it, maybe the investors have made a choice, which could be like this - drain as much money out of the rest player base in the least amount of time and then close down the game, maybe in a year or 2 from now - when TES VI will be available and they can make money with that. This whole thing stinks.

The Crux of the Matter is, we would rather Engage the Crown Store rather than be Manipulated by it.

Offer items at a fixed or sale price so we know what we are going to spend and what the item is that we are going to get.

If they also want to add Crates with a random chance at a shiney that is normally listed on the store also, so be it. But to hide exclusive items behind an RNG Paywall is just not acceptable to most folks.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I would have less contempt for Crown crates if the contents could somehow also be earned in game.

Will I need what is in those craters, absolutely not. Will I desire what is in the craters, yes when they contain avatar specific wants. Will I feel envious of players that get more exclusive items, probably. Will I feel cheated and less thrilled to log in daily, definitely.

I am a completionist and want to acquire those items that augment my avatars, but with my limited income, I just cannot compete with those with bulging wallets and excess disposable income; I like to eat once in awhile you see.

And besides the very good arguments denoted by others above, also troubling is the shortsightedness of many that seem to feel these types of additions are harmless and the 'just don't buy them' mentality. A fair statement; however these 'harmless' items have been shown to become a slippery slope in other MMOs, wherein, more and more exclusive items begin to slowly infiltrate the game, with content that is more P2W in nature.

I for one, fear the Domino effect these may have.
