Yes the gambling crates are coming whether I like or not. But there's nothing you can do to stop me thinking "there goes an idiot" if I see someone with a crate-exclusive item go past.
I don’t get this. Im fancying a flutter on the crown crates. I may even win a decent mount or something. I may not, but I have the disposable funds to do so without sending my wife and kids to cardboard boxes on the street due to a newly acquired 'crown crate' gambling addiction.
But if I do win something nice, you automatically bracket me as ‘an idiot’. As a professional person in real life, I can assure you im not. It will be a perfectly reasoned decision to decide to buy a crate or two and not due to me being lacking in the intellectual department.
To me an idiot would be more be-fitting of someone who categorises and defines a player not based on the player themselves but what they did or didn’t spend their money on or whether their mount is a crown crate exclusive.
Well, you definitely are if you have such a poor understanding of price / value. Just because you can afford wasting your money doesn't make it right. They lock items behind this money sink and people like you trying to justify this nonsense are to thank for it to a good amount. You don't have to accept everything just because you can. You can also give the money to charity if you're going to throw it away anyways.
I am... not excited in any way for the "Crown Crates".Deathgiggle wrote: »Bought a bunch of Crowns during the sale and just gonna wait until the Crates are released!! I love lotto's, grab bags, and mystery boxes, so this fits right into my mentality! Good job ZOS!!

The problem is the system applies to everyone not just to people with too much money. If you don't care then you must not be interested in crown store items to begin with in which case your input is of hardly any value. And by that I mean it's useless.
It stops people that would otherwise spend money from purchasing anything at all because these crates are designed to f*** them over. 400 crowns of disposable items you don't want to use? Great, lets buy another one because why not.
I remember when devs would release a quest on older games that took you like 3 months to complete, and that's how you got an item that you could show off or some bragging rights. Now it's all about the rhino mounts and them soccer mom dollars. Im gonna go drink and watch baseball now, at least that's still kind of pure.
135 euros to cover most of utility bills? I must come to live in your country lol

mmm...baseball...isn't that the sport with all those drug cheats hitting home runs? oh the purity of it all

You say this like it's a positive thing. I would be more impressed if these ultra rare mounts were obtained through in game achievements. I have no interest in showing off how much money I have in real life or in game. Nothing good comes from it.Deathgiggle wrote: »That's the fun of it though, the mounts will actually be "rare." I can't stand it when everyone has the same cool mount as soon as it gets released. When you see a Crown Crate mount you will know the guy either got really lucky or had to pay out the beejebus fot it lol

Excuse me???? why so disrespectful Mr Keyboard warrior?
Define ‘value’……
Your interpretation doesn’t take into account there are people that like the rush of a gamble. I see value in that and am happy to have a flutter. It doesn’t make me an idiot. Value is not just about $$$ but im guessing you don’t see it that way as you are clearly defining value=$$$ spent
No-one is forcing anyone to buy crates. If you don’t want to then great, that’s your call. If you're not happy with how ESO is going then don’t play. Its your choice. Don’t whinge at those that are looking forward to something you’re not, bracketing them as ‘idiots’.

BTW. What about the people who gamble their time for various set items?

valid point, because this is about gaming addiction then - which is not yet an accepted disorder, but just proposed to be added to the catalogue of illnesses. It cannot really be regulated though, it is in a way like with alcohol - to abolish or prohibit it leads to even more abuse than without interference. In China it was attempted to regulate the maximum gaming hours and it failed.

A crate or two. Not an issue, just like the lottery tickets. Or pulling a one-armed bandit in Vegas a few times. If you get super lucky, fantastic for you. It happens. However, if you really, really want and are dead set on getting one specific item, unless all the RNG spirits are with you, you aren't going to get the item you really want. Someone opened 52 crates without getting one of the apex prizes. Got several hundred assorted potions, food, hats, and hair for your khajiit, but no atronach mount. 52 crates at 400 crowns a crate.... Well.

Well, not exactly a model country for human rights. Tightly regulating human behavior at country scale has failed and will fail because people are incentive driven individuals. Incidentally I come from a country where it failed big time. It's better to have people indulge in some sort of vices, like drinking, smoking and gambling, then have a whole bureaucracy harshly enforcing tight compliance, with costs far exceeding those of the vices themselves. If one doesn't like a product he simply doesn't buy it. But clamoring for it to be banned is not the way to go - I've seen people trying to claim that anti-gambling laws should be extended in order to ban the crown store boxes in their country. And even people that claimed that Crown Store Boxes are P2W.

On another game, I once spent 20+ dollars for a chance to get a "Rare" outfit. They have "Gatcha" machines that you pay very little money to get a chance to get a rare item. I spent a lot of money and got nothing.
OP, Instead of spending the money on crates, go buy something nice in real life.

This is the point, Emily, these crates are intentionally designed for that outcome, you got - having spent a lot of money and got nothing of value in return, so that you are eventually trying again and again and again.
