Any Soulshine builds?

I have a project build as a Magicka NB with Soulshine and Vampire Lord. His spam is Invigorating Drain with Soul Assault as his Ult. I envisioned it as a thematic Vampire build with solid damage and durability.

It's...disappointing. Soul Assault is amazing, but the Vampire abilities are very lackluster. I've since swapped to stamina, but I may retry it when my next respec comes around.

It doesn't matter enough to me to grind gear to test it myself, but I have seen reports that it goes beyond the tooltip.

That said, I think Spinner might be better even if Soulshine is working with sweep.

The 4000 Spell Penetration works out to be around 6% increase in damage, assuming you use all of it and don't already have lots of spell penetration and go over your enemies total resistance.

The extra 450 Spell Power on soulshine increased my damage by 265 per hit on my Sweeps, which with that particular build worked out to a 9% increase in damage. (had maybe 2500 sp damage on that build)

The extra 450 will not be increased by major sorcery, it is a flat amount added at the end of all other buffs.

Long story short, it depends on how much cast time/ channel skills make up your total DPS. If you mix it in with lots of DoT's and instant skills and Sweeps only account for 25% of your damage, then Spinners will be better for sure. If all you do is cast Dark Flare followed by RD over and over in the back of a zerg, then Soulshine is your winner.

I am under the impression that the 450 will be increased by major sorcery. Flat amount set bonuses are always tacked on before buffs I thought? Works the same as silks of the sun which I thought is also increased by major sorcery. I could be wrong and I haven't tested it (don't really know how I'd do that on console) but I've heard a lot on both sides of this. Can someone absolutely confirm whether or not sets like these are buffed by major/minor sorcery/brutality, etc?

I see where you are coming from jrgray93, but I use soulshine on my templar as my primary set right now and have been very happy. It depends on how you play and if you are a templar that uses the cast-time/channeled abilities. I could see it not being as good a set for a build that does not have cast-time/channeled skills. I was running julianos but switched it out for soulshine.

When I cast structured entropy from mages guild line I get the 20% boost to spell power on top of my 450 spell power from soul shine.

Soulshine isn't worth it as a primary set. Maybe as a supplement to something universally applicable, like Julianos, but even then, there are better secondary sets. Soulshine is bad because it doesn't boost the potential of your other spells, including heals. The jewelry also only comes in healthy, losing further damage potential. If you're doing PVP, you're better off running something like Kagrenac's or Julianos.

This is what my thoughts lead me to as well. Health on the Jewelry might be OK, but if I want to Optic Blast someone I would prefer to have more magic. Gonna get on my MagTemplar for PvP tonight with Kag's/Spinner and give that plus Witches Potent brew a go. I just can't drop Kag's for that Ressurection speed tho. It's really nice for PVP.

That is wrong. BoL and HotD have no cast time, are not considered channeled or cast time abilities, and do not get interrupted by bash.

There is an animation, but that is not the same thing

You mean ritual of rebirth? That heal skill has a 1-1.5 second cast time depending on morph you choose.

I thought the same thing for breath of life because the tooltip says instant cast time, but I assure you it does increase the tooltip number and the actual healz to players are for real. Love this set on my templar healer (remembrance will heal for 11k-13k a second to all players around for 4 seconds while reducing damge 20%).

It looks like from what others are saying that have tested soulshine is that it does work for puncturing sweeps. It just does not show it in the tooltip as increased damage, but causes the increased damage in combat when hitting another player. This makes sense because sweeps have a duration during the time you cast it and the time the skill ends. Glad to know this!

I guess it's unintended if it works with BoL though right? Will test it when I finish farming

Not sure if it is unintended or not, but the extra healz are welcome  I did read some time ago that BoL received very short "cast-time" but the tooltip was not updated (think this was 1.6). Not sure if that still stands.

It absolutely does not increase either the tooltip or the actual heal of BoL.

How are you testing it? In my test I simply replaced 1 piece soushine with an identical piece of heavy armor, with same magicka enchant but no set bonus.

With Soulshine -11408 normal, 18595 crit
Without Soulshine -11408 normal, 18595 crit

    Tooltip always stayed at 9668.

Again, how would you test this? Since the 450 is not added to your character sheet at any time during the channel or cast time how would you test this. You would need to have a way to keep all stats exactly the same but add 450 extra spell power to your build, then compare that damage result with entropy to the exact same build minus the 450 spell power but with the soulshine 5 set piece now active.

You did this? I doubt it. But if you did I would love to hear how you pulled it off.

For everyone else, since the 450 buff is not added directly to your spell power pool on your character stat screen, it is safe to assume it is a flat rate of damage added to the skill output damage after all other modifires.

Yeah I'm using it. It's BiS for PvP.

What are you using with it? I was thinking of going x5 Rattlecage (arcane jewlery) x5 Soulshine and x2 Skoria. But that would leave my Magicka very low.

Whatever works for you. Some use Desert Rose, Engine Guardian, Skoria but IMO the penetration from Spinners and the damage from Grothdarr in your Sweeps range is too hard to refuse on a heavy armour build. Your regen will be low but Channeled Focus and Harness Magicka spam and Constitution keeps me topped up, if it's a busy campaign I'd switch to Engine Guardian to never leave myself short. Use the new max magic/recovery food and put some cost reduction on your jewellery.

I don't play it much, it's a bit of a joke tbh 3500+ spell power whilst channeling or using cast time spells (basically all Templar's offensive spells), 6000+ penetration, decent crit and 40k Magicka on a frickin tank. Pretty OP.

Curious to what testing you have done with spinners. I have run into issues with it not counting sharpened weapons w/the spinners bonus.

I would test it in an actual 4-man dungeon, because the mobs have over 18k resistance.

Overland and public dungeon/delves only have around 9000, so if your penetration is already at or nearing that number (and with light armor bonus plus sharpened weapon you will be) it might look like the particular bonus isn't working, when in fact it is just that you have too much penetration for that mob.

I would have thought changing from Julianos to Soulshine would have increased all my cast-time and channeled abilities spell power +280 (more than Julianos) because soulshine gives +579 (450+129) spell power and Julianos gives +299 spell power (280 less spell power than Soulshine).

I did some tests in game putting 5 Julianos back on to compare it to 5 Soulshine and I was getting higher heals and damage numbers in the tooltips with Julianos (wtf?). Is this set broken or something?

FYI my build is 5 soulshine (changed from 5 Julianos), 4 arch mage, 3 willpower (jewelry) with sword & board each bar.

I'm running 5 Soulshine + 5 Burning Spellweave + 2 iceheart on my magicka tempar right now with 5 heavy 2 light, arcane jewelry and dual wield sharpened swords and inferno staff on the back bar. I finally completed vMA on my Magicka templar with this setup, 460k score too on my first time with her.

The new destruction ulti is too OP with this build. I see 18k crits in PvE and 8-9k in PvP

Structured Entropy can do a lot for a Skoria build, so Rattlecage can have a negative synergy there.

Soulshine will not help BoL heals.

Personally I would pick another 5 piece set over those two.

Ah yes when putting on the Julianos I get the two "5-piece" passives for light armor (crit & penetration) so that prolly has somthing to do with it. I was going from 5 Julianos (2 heavy, 1 light, sword, board) to 5 Soulshine (3 heavy, sword, board). I tested puncturing sweeps on some random lions in cryodiil and was getting higher DPS with the Julianos set. I will do some more testing with healz to see what set does better, but I am guessing Julianos with my particular build.

that's because soulshrine is bug with sweeps, the scaling is off somehow, the dmg increase is negible. Ignore the forum warriors that "tested everything", is not working properly with sweeps.

It increases my sweeps by 234 per stab. If you use this spreadsheet by Asayre :

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YN8YWDpi1-d4CfoagRy1F9ath2w2nb-TniL4MjdJdz4/edit#gid=1051907347

and add 450 to the spell power coefficient it should increase it by a bit over 300 if it added it directly to your spell power pool before all other modifiers.

Since it only increases it by 234 it is obviously not being affected by ALL modifiers (although if you do the math with it added at the very end with no modifiers it would only be an increase of around 100 per stab, so it must be being added somewhere in the middle of the equation.)

So you can actually bother to test or just call people that do actual solid testing "forum warriors" and keep believing whatever you want. Oh and here's a video too, so people who care about proof have something to watch:

Ignore that at the end I highlight a burning light crit proc. I though it was a crit for PS. Nevertheless the normal hits are enough.

It works fine on sweeps, dont assume its not working just cause tooltip isnt increased...

When I cast structured entropy from mages guild line I get the 20% boost to spell power on top of my 450 spell power from soul shine.

Hey I've tried to find this out elsewhere on here and tamriel foundry but I can't seem to get any hard facts. Does anyone know whether or not soulshine's five-piece bonus affect heavy attacks from lightning staves? Obviously they are a channel but soulshine specifically says channel abilities so I wasn't sure if it would buff full heavy attacks from lightning staves or Restos for that matter. Also, just because it says channel abilities and not simply channels doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't affect staff heavies, as this is eso.

If it does buff lightning staff FHA's I think it could be interesting on a dk or sorc magicka dps build with maybe infallible aether or full heavy armor build with sergeant's mail's five-piece bonus.

Using the exact same test as in the video above the Soulshine bonus does increase the damage of a Lightning Heavy.

With Soulshine: 2233 normal, 3416 crit
Without Soulshine 1962 normal, 3002 crit

Also, I have not tested but have heard that Fire staff heavies are considered to have a cast time, therefore Soulshine should affect them too.

edit: OK so I don't spread any misinformation I went ahead and tested the Heavy Fire Attack. It does NOT increase the damage on heavy fire attacks.

edit2: Also I did discover that Soulshine increases the damage on the first 3 ticks of the Lightning Staff heavy just fine but the last tick (called Shock Pulse in the combat log) seems to not get increased in the same way. I have bugged it in game.

edit 3 : changed "first 2 ticks" to "first 3 ticks" in edit #2

The first 3 ticks are a HA DOT and scale also with the 3 CP stars: Elemental Expert, Staff Expert and Thaumaturge
and the last tick, the Shock Pulse, is a Pulse damage. And scales only from Elemental Expert.

So I guess that it is in the logic of the game mechanics that the Pulse damage of Shock Pulse does not benfit from Soulshine.

Having (not yet) a Soulshine set...
The 3 ticks of a Resto HA "should" benefit from Soulshine.
Did you test that as well ?

Have not tested but should be able to. I don't know if Resto heavy has a 3 dot+1 regular kind of set up. Doesn't seem to be, or at least there is no obvious animation like Shock Pulse, but if it does I expect it will follow the same mechanic.

From what I tested on the Resto HA:
It is 3 DOT ticks in a row, that all 3 scale from the 3 mentioned CP stars.
You can also observe that you get a Heal every 3 ticks if you have unlocked the Resto passive "Essence Drain" and in melee range (if you are closer than an ally)
Essence Drain: "You also heal yourself or a nearby ally to the target for 30% of the damage inflicted by the final hit of a fully-charged Heavy Attack".

This is actually pretty interesting. You are correct that Resto heavy only has 3 ticks per heavy attack. The heavy attack IS affected by Soulshine.

Also the Resto heavy attack does more damage per tick than my Lightning staff, but the Lightning staff seems to tick faster. Overall just doing nothing but heavy attacks both staves come out to the same DPS when killing mammoths in Wrothgar. I repeated this test a few times and both times it came to around 3600 DPS for both.

Lightning staff obviously has the splash damage which will pull it ahead in mulit mob situations, but Resto staff completes heavy attack quicker and has the passive for more magicka return so overall is much better for sustain, and in single target it look like the DPS would be the same (for a Templar anyway, probably different for a Sorc).
