1T: weapon drops are insanely random

Hello comrades,

I have been spending most days of the last two weeks farming 1T new sets, there is a lot of good ones out there now. Tho, after more than 150~ hours farming, weapon drops on a desireable or even a "okay" trait are nearly impossible (with the exception of a few named weapons). Even jewerly is kind easy to find if you compare how hard is to get those weapons.

ZOS please do address this issue, it's really insane out there. There is a lot of alternatives from previous experiences from other mmorpgs and I know you have a very capable team that can come up with a fix for this.

All hail our RNG over lords.... Seriously though whats with MMOs turning on the RNG for pretty much every aspec of the game? Are we really that lazy in development? ( Not pointed at exclusivly ZoS). I have farmed every day since 1T hit, all ive gotten is 1 purple Spriggan bow, thats it. No green drops off of bosses or anything in terms of a weapon, or chest actually either. I am almost positive a WB dropped a ring once for me (though the grind is starting to blur) Down with RNG Up with Token System!

    Yeah Agreed.
3 sets per location should be on a round robin too.
15 peices of set 1.... 5 pieces of set 2.... and 2 peices of set 3... is just plain wrong. !!!!
Especially when those 2 pieces are preposterous or draining.

I got a sharpened Red Mountain Dagger the other day from Crow's wood, was debating on keeping it, but ended up selling it. Haven't really farmed for sets, i'll probably just buy them once i decide which sets i want.

Since 1T dropped and because shortly afterwards The Witches Festival started, I have been doing the new Mage's, Fighter's and Undaunted dailies on 3 of my max characters everyday.

Therefore I have not been grinding for certain sets but instead doing 9 x Dolmens, 3 x Public Dungeons and 3 x Delves, some days the quests are all different, sometimes they are not.

I have received many weapons in this time, have to say way more jewelry BUT I have now got a new alt because I needed the storage space for the new weapons and I have a crafting bag!! :(

The only weapons I don't decon are those with traits I would possibly use, so they are definitely out there. :)
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

RNG has become the way to go for MMORPGs due to developments team lack of creativity and geared more towards graphics and art work.

Back in the day MMOs had creative quests with multiple parts to get some of the best gear in the game. A lot of these quests were so difficult it would take days or even weeks to complete. Yet when you got your drop it felt earned.

Now with RNG you don't earn anything. You simply throw massive amounts of time towards grinding for something. More often than not the people with more play time are the people getting ahead.

Playtime > Skill in modern MMOs.

I farmed a dungeon with 3 other people for rattle cage. We have 1arcane neck two unique shapened swords and a impen shield lol. I feel your pain. I farmed 15 hours for 2 soulshine peices that were sub optimal. So crap farming same content over and over and over

Grinding for the right weapon in the right trait is such a PITA I'm reworking some of my builds to make sure I use crafted weapons whenever possible. Getting to choose the motif you use is a bonus but things get tricky when you have characters that dual wield on one bar and single wield on another.

Yep this is the case with drops from City of Ash. I solo farm CoA I and in the last two runs haven't recieved a single piece of Burning Spellweave. 12 bosses + 1 drop from a chest and none of the set I'm actually after. At this rate this is going the gear cap will be up to 300CP before I finish farming the pieces I need.
Terrible RNG which requires months of grinding for desired gear drops is what drove me away from DC online so it really sucks to see this problem come to ESO.

just like me for a mother sorrow sharpened one, dont have a single one yet. but I got 6 pumpkin/spectre masks by using the witch thingy buff whilst doing it, it´s just as annoying as getting the right shoulder piece

    but then I realised:

The dungeon weapon farming is beyond frustrating.

Pug groups take 15-30 minutes minimum just for a single chance to get the right type of weapon, and when you do get one, it's likely not the trait you need. I'm running Elden Hollow for Undaunted Bastion 1H&S weapons, but 9 out of 10 weapon drops are Light Speaker or Barkskin. -_- I really can't help but think the RNG is weighted. Hell, I've never even seen a shield from any of the 3 sets, and chances are slim that I'll find one for my set with the reinforced trait. I mean seriously, tanking without defending on your weapon or reinforced on your shield doesn't feel acceptable.

But wait, you say there's a timed window to trade dropped weapons within dungeon groups? Yeah, good luck dragging your friends through a dungeon several, several times for gear they don't need, only to say to them "sorry guys, not this time. Can we do it again for like the 15th time today?" Does YOUR company love misery? Even MY enthusiasm is tanking (no pun intended), and I'm the only one who stands to get anything significant out of these runs. It just feels selfish to ask people to suffer this RNG and monotony for my sake. And afterwards? Heaven forbid I ever admit to them I'm thinking of changing my build.

Finally, and perhaps worst of all, I'll probably get what I'm looking for after about a 1000 hrs of running the same dungeon, but it won't be the style I like, and never will be without transmog.

Since 1T the loot system has become terrible. Diluted by so many crap items and it takes ages to farm. Weapons/Shields are a pain to farm right now.

This is not a new problem though: vDSA and vMA is even worse tbh. We need changes fast.

You can solo a normal dungeon for blue weapons and improve them. So you can wallow in rng hell all alone and not drag others down.

I've summarized the problem in this thread:
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/300662

Namely, you're looking at a 1-in-624 chance at getting a specific weapon per dungeon run, vs. a 1-in-32 chance for getting a specific small armor piece.

With chances like that, you might as well grind for a perfect vMA weapon instead.

It's just fine. You should not be able to farm for a specific amount of time and get exactly what you want.

Keep the drop rates as they are.

    Thank you, man.

I was looking forward to weeks and months of uncertainty and frustration. I can safely say the best thing for me to do is give up on the 5-5-2 builds that I want (ones that contain dungeon weapon drops.) 1-in-624 is perfectly average, non-weighted RNG, which means it could easily take 1000 runs if you're one of those players with 'bad luck.' Our time, and lives, are worth more than this. Besides, my 5-5-2 builds would just be ruined every time I wanted to switch to a 2-H weapon (a whole other piece to grind for), AND these dungeon weapons aren't the style I like anyway.

I'm done with gear progression at this point; the reward systems are just too ridiculous and punishing. And now a great weight has been lifted off of me, as I find piece of mind in just letting go of it all.
