Many people in europe are working at this time....so fine in that case. Feel sorry for us oceanic where maintenance always hit OUR prime time.

All good though, I'll spend a few more time out here laughing at the type of topics that comes up during maintenance lol.

People like you should get a life, thats what we complainers are being told,
but in fact, the people that come here to make fun off or to laugh at people legitly complaining,
they are the ones that should get a life instead of trying to defend ZoS ridiculous maintenance times.

And for ur knowlegde,a lot of europeans work at a lot of different hours,
maybe you didnt notice but we live in the year 2016 not in 1916.

Just out of curiosity, when is the EU primetime (with timezone, if possible)?

this has been up since yesterday.

And it's the middle of the day here, hardly primetime. Also 6 am on the East coast, so hopefully people won't be asleep as it is not the middle of the night.

    Nice clear statement @ElBiggus ,
I've only been playing for a relative short time here but was getting concerned that the system was coming offline for maintenance and updates that's not standard practice in the industry but more a limited funds company move, can't understand it with a company this size unless there's a moneydrain somewhere,

client is your money ZOS .... get some farm designers in that can improve this and not make it worse.

the game has long legs don't Break them before your 5 yrs old would be a terrible waste of a Game........
Try Cat herding it's fun thay said you'll love it it's a good honest job........ bollock's you need Silverweave body armour to stop em fighting, but a stuffed mouse on a string can help!

It's a hotfix for the Cyrodiil group bug that requires some server downtime for about 3 hours.

So today maintenance to partially fixan issue, then again to fix EU log in, then again to fix second part of group bug. So we can expect 5-6 more maintenances in next week or so. Thx for your patience.

    Thanks for the headsup,
but am still of the opinion that this should v been done during Noon in some Murikan time zone.

And was this anounced this in a banner also when Gina posted this,
    and then even so,
cant expect from us to check the banners of the forum every couple of hours,
make some banner in the launcher so we dont have to check the forums all the times for maintenance,
a lot of players dont even come to the forum.......

    But beside my complains,
thanks for the reply Kai,i know you are mostly one of the few that is online on these times and you do all you can.

Incompetence, that's what it is. After 2 years still the same patching a patchy game.

Cancel that stupid competition and buy some new hardware or talent to fix the game.

I bought the game 3 weeks ago and I have never seen this amount of maintenance ever, and I have been playing mmos since everquest. I remembe vanilla wow or swg having weekly maintenances but we are in 2016, this is insane. I'm loving this game but I really dont know if this is normal or it is because the one tamriel update.

yes, it is in a banner and the sticky.

They can't expect you to check it every couple hours, but they can expect you to do that before starting a thread complaining about how they leave you in the dark about things.

This is getting ridiculous. Why can't you just do all in one maintenance? You can use post-it to tell the devs all the problems at once for heaven's sake... we're doomed if every time the game has a bug you need to do a 4-8hr of maintenance.

    Agreed,
    its like my morning ritual,feeding horses,doing writs,maybe a plegde,
then i go do my real life daily stuff and later on the day i play a bit more.
But i play the most during European mornings/noon.
Exactly when most of the maintenance are.

All this doesn't bode well for console release next week. *** anyone has had to endure all this game wise, what you PC gamers have endured this week, but kinda glad this was staggered. I don't expect us console gamers to get away Scot free either. Maybe delaying the console release is an idea. After all, if they're struggling to fix one version, things are only going to get worse next week when they're faced with issues on 2 or even 3 fronts depending if console specific issues crop up.

Taking into account most of the countries that would play on the EU server (but not all), primetime in US timezones would be between 9am EST and 5pm EST

OK, let's run through this one more time for the hard of thinking:
    • Yes, ZOS need to fix bugs.
    • Yes, in a game this big and complex, a new patch may introduce new bugs or resurrect old ones, so after a big change you can expect a lot of smaller patches in the days immediately after it.
    • No, the servers do not need to be taken offline to do it, and saying "it has to happen" just makes them think that it's fine and we're all happy with it and gives them no motivation to stop doing it.

Any of you who defend them would, I'm pretty sure, be happier if it didn't happen, so once again I will explain the process that every server admin on the planet knows how to do:
    • Test your update as much as possible on a test server.
    • Push the update to a deployment server. This can be done without touching the live server -- that can be left running and people can still use it.
    • When the update is ready and the deployment server is up and running, switch the deployment and live server roles: new players logging in will be directed to the new server, and users on the old pre-update server can be sent a message saying maintenance has been done and they need to log out and back in again as soon as possible. (Note: it may even be possible to do this "invisibly" by pushing people from one server to another whenever they switch zones, but a forced relog is easier.)
    • When the old server is empty it's then ready to be the deployment server for the next set of updates.

Voila, servers updated, no downtime, and the biggest inconvenience is some people have to log out and back in again. There's also the extra bonus that if something's gone really wrong with the update they have the previous version ready to reinstate immediately.

This happens all around the world thousands of times a day, but you never notice because the process is designed to be seamless and invisible. It's also not new or radical: I learned how to do it in college three decades ago and it was old news by then, and I've seen it in practice in businesses from "small, the servers are only a small part of the business" to "freakin' huge, and can't function without them". An MMO is a computer program and not magic, so there's no technical reason they cannot do it this way; the only reason I can come up with that they don't do it this way is because it requires having some duplicate hardware and therefore costs money.

ZOS' entire business is based on having functional servers, so it strikes me as ludicrous that they don't do everything they can to make sure that the servers are (barring complete disaster) always running.

(On a final note, those of you who are fine with it need to stop telling the rest of us to put up or shut up; this is a genuine grievance, and this is the best place to air it. Don't want to hear about how annoyed we are? Skip these threads, then, rather than coming in and telling us we're whiny entitled idiots.)

I play in the morning and I totally agree with you, it's been too much. I want to do my dailies and guess what, I can only do them in the morning. And I can understand one maintenance but lately this is just ridiculous. If what this guy sais it's true then you're totally joking with us.

As a console pleb I am going to stay away from one tamriel for at least 2 weeks after it hits console with all these issues being reported.

Maybe a month is better, given how slow they are to get followup patches out to console.

You have to remember, this is PC they are talking about. Console doesn't have these issues. Well, Xbox might, they seem to have their own issues all together lol

Not to pile up on ZOS misery but this game is definitely the MMO with more maintenance ever, and I played almost all the relevant MMOs since UO.
6-8 hours for a REGULAR maintenance is just ridiculous, having that more than once a week is unacceptable.
ZOS should really get their act together.
