They certainly don't seem to value their EU customers, sadly. Yes, there is a workaround, but not everyone uses the forum and we shouldn't have to do this.

you realize the number of Players that you lose due to pathetic bug?

Please type the number here :).
I'm sure they didn't loose anyone due to login bug. If a player can handle it by few clicks and 20 seconds of awaiting, it's really not enough for quitting the entire game.
I was complaining at first, but after several logins I got used to this "new feature", and even found some new friends on NA server, where I had no reason to go earlier :).

Well, to be honest, this is somewhat like having a store with a broken front door so that people can't get in. It may not dissuade the dedicated customer, but some people will just decide not to deal with the hassle.

I am not sure what sort of blind spot they have with this feature, but this bug should have never even seen the light of day. That it did, and that they failed to fix it, deserves some introspection inside the studio.

what is certain, there are incompetent people in the ZeniMax teams, or they simply have no programmer and all codes are outsourced by Chinese.

A group of people that is bigger than half. So more than 50%. You do realize that ESO cater to a very casual playerbase right?

Well I put a PSA on Reddit last night and to my 5 Guilds on Live.

On the first day of this issue many people that tried to follow even the ZOS interim fix ended up completely losing their original game program folder by mistake or corrupting it with paused patching and other suggestions.

Until we see this actually fixed and the fact that they are modifying critical hard code in the client/server I would suggest if you have a working game folder that has no issues with the launcher/login, to make a backup if you have the space.

Just in case they introduce another attempted fix that once again requires modifying/renaming entire folders etc. It would have saved the people I had tried to help initially from having to start from scratch with full downloads or re-installs.

Yes , the server issue was not resolved ! :((

I'm thinking about how many players from the 7 mil announced by ZOS are visiting the forums.

ZOS , THIS ISSUE WILL MAKE YOU LOOSE MANY PLAYERS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T PLAY ON EU BECAUSE MANY OF THEM DON'T KNOW HOW TO CONNECT TO IT!

Bull - There's a big banner at the top of the forums saying how... Also don't you think someone would seek the answer before cancelling a sub? Drama queen much??

Oh and Inb4 "yeah but not everyone reads the forums"

Well that's their tough s*it then really.

Not every player comes to the forum. By far. I keep explaining the procedure to some guildies every day. Even then, some just drop and say "why bother, too complicated, I'll maybe check again next week".

Most people do not visit the forums. Particular where a game is marketed at, and mainly played by, casuals, as is the case for ESO.

And it's not their tough luck, it's actually ours because this sort of thing eats away at membership, with the net result that the game inches more into decline, has less funding, and less quality.

Did the internal testers that tested this and gave it a rubber stamp get a good slap round the head? lol My boss would have hung me for declaring one of my support cases as fixed to all of our customers when it wasn't lol

We are informed here and help each other, and are reasonably technically savvy in most cases, but we are the tip of the iceberg as most players do not frequent the forums. This really is like me over-hauling my shop, advertising it to all and sundry then leaving the front door locked and not answering the phone. Sure, the devoted customer might peer around the back and knock on the back window, but most people will go elsewhere.
This isn't game launch date, it's some major patch implemented and even those not dedicated players know what they downloaded. By downloading it and the entire game they proved they wanted to play the game. I really doubt that anyone who just downloaded ever 40gigs of data plus few more for the patch quits just because of the temporary problem with login. I'm sure they rather try to find solution on google - if weren't earlier on eso forum - and by doing so they find forum threads and some of these actually become Soul Shriven here :).

As for the shop the comparison may not be accurate for the situation. People who already downloaded game put some effort and time and most of them won't give up so easily, at least as I believe. They are not the customers that came to shop with closed doors and went away because no one was inside. They are more like people who already paid for tickets for the movie in cinema, movie is about to start soon but there is suddenly a problem with machine that validates tickets. They must wait for the problem being solved if they want to watch; sure they can start a riot or deal with cinema managers, but they still want to see the movie they paid for and won't just go away because they have tickets which are valid only in this cinema :).

You could of course be right, neither you or I know past the anecdotal.

But by any measure of things, if you've just invested heavily in an update (and it was a big one), to obfuscate access for a whole continent, particularly when that continent is the largest single market in the world, can't really be seen as anything but an own goal.

I am sorry to disagree but the drama queen is right. You come to the forums. Don't expect the rest of the playerbase to do the same. People have busy lives, they play games to relax and expect it to be at least functional. If it is not functional, they will search for fun elsewhere. "Submit tickets? Search forums? I already have enough errands to do". Not everyone is so committed to the game as you or me unfortunately. If zos find a solution for this issue, it would be better to take the EU server down again, the sooner the better.

First impression of a game means EVERYTHING, no matter what potential players read anywhere on the web or forums, If they play from EU this launcher issue is what they will find before they even get to make a character, sorry but NOT a very good first impression and will i'm sure put alot of people off

I have downloaded 40 gigs and more in the past to get into a game and the first 10 mins have usually influenced whether i continue or uninstall, I have uninstalled many in the past like this. THIS issue will definitely have affected the EU playerbase but only ZoS will know the numbers and I'm pretty sure Crown and cash shop sales declined this weekend too.

It's a genuinely valid question, because I walked someone from Escalation through the bug and the fix in a series of emails on Thursday and Friday last week, and he thanked me for the fix, said it was along the lines of his own thinking but that he'd not managed to get it working, and just gave me a caveat that of course I am modifying the game files so ZOS can't be responsible if it breaks the game.

This was Thursday and Friday, so I am at a loss as to why the fix isn't here, I gave ZOS line for line the code needed to fix the game. They merely needed to ratify that against their own standards and amend as required, test it and push it today.

I am not saying it's the fault of the chap I was talking to, but clearly something is not right inside the org when your customers are telling you how to fix your own product and you still don't manage to fix it.

No, I know you are not, sorry if it seemed I felt that. I just feel that this actually could be a bigger problem than ZOS think. After all the launcher is actually saying that people are on the EU server (when they are not), so they're going to trust that and act accordingly.

It's only us more inquisitive types who probably bothered to find this out here or elsewhere on the Internet.

Yeah, and ZOS are going to fix the game and people then select EU - but it actually work this time - then wonder where their new chars are!

Maybe that's why they pulled the fix, they realised this impact and did not have comms ready so felt it better to get those comms out to prevent another cockup like that.

Not only that, but what about new players who think they are on EU and have payed for crown items? like mounts and pets and more are they shared on both servers? I read somewhere some items are not. if so this really brings a far bigger issue to the problem

It's a very good point. In that case, it's very likely they have realised this and are working out how to deal with that issue. Basically some refund mechanic would be in order and I guess they don't have that in place cross server etc. They will be right to be wary of badly handling that sort of thing, because they'd get a load of chargebacks and all sorts of other mess to deal with.

On the one hand, the longer they leave it the worse it gets, but on the other, dealing with the technical element without people and process in place will lead to even more pain, now we think about these factors.
