While we're digging into this, as a temporary workaround you can do the following to log into EU:
    • Select Live-EU
    • Hit Accept
    • Select Live
    • Hit Accept
    • Select Live-EU
    • Hit Accept
We know this is less than ideal, but again, are working on gathering some answers and info for you all.

As I suggested before, it looks like the Client cannot write on some .ini files and modify the Launcher options, as if it is protected from being over-written.
It should be pretty easy to fix.

It's not that, there are two files that are wrongly coded by ESO, basically permit a bind only to NA. The usersettings.ini file can be, and is, written correctly but because the two config files are hard-coded to only talk to NA, it does not matter, the game simply binds to NA every time and rewrites user settings accordingly.

It took me about 30 mins of investigation on Friday to see this, I then even sent the fix to the ZOS escalations team and got a 'thank you' response. So they have the technical information, they simply need to deploy the fix.

See my fix thread for technical details if you are interested: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/295846/fix-for-eu-server-issue#latest

Is that why the Natch Potes were edited?

I was going to leave a sarcastic comment on another thread about testing the update, but I thought that wouldn't be constructive... turns out that far from being sarcastic, it would have been a helpful reminder :(

I think this is sometimes a display bug that appears in the OP when an official replies to it. It may not be the case that anything was changed at all.

You did nothing wrong! That's just a forum bug; when a staff member posts in a thread and selects it to appear on the Dev Tracker, it says we edited the first post (even though we didn't).

Yep. We adjusted the Overview, and removed the two fixes from the list.

Holy moly, since when is it so hard to press live EU, back to live and then back to live EU? This fix took me five seconds to find out myself, and another five seconds to actually do it. Obviously not optimal, but the angry reactions are way out of proportion... Maybe it's time to get some perspective :)

No idea, honestly. I only have the one writ monkey on NA, so I log in there first then log into EU and spend the rest of my time there. Guess it's not bothering me because I already play on both servers.

Ok thank you. It might be you aren't exposing the binding memory issue as you naturally switch servers anyway. Core issue is it won't hold the bind.

People here are informed but most people are not on the forums, so they'll login and repeatedly see no chars and either raise a ticket, or simply leave the game because they can't be bothered to invest time in creating and levelling new chars. They may even create new chars in the US (unaware as they are selecting EU) then when ZOS finally do fix it, those chars will vanish and they'll really wonder what the hell is going on!

I'd have thought this is the last thing the game needed after a relaunch with 1T attempting to bring more players together.

    And yet...

Takes them couple of days(!!!!) to fix basic problem which alienates huge part of their playerbase - do you guys realize how many people didn't bother with logging in as it stands? And then it takes couple of hours to apply simple patch fix... And then it doesn't work.

I'm sure they didn't loose anyone due to login bug. If a player can handle it by few clicks and 20 seconds of awaiting, it's really not enough for quitting the entire game.
I was complaining at first, but after several logins I got used to this "new feature", and even found some new friends on NA server, where I had no reason to go earlier :).

@ZOS_GinaBruno , the workaround selects the correct server for me now, but I still cannot log in to EU from a new PC. I get the 2 factor authentication prompt, but every time I enter the code from email, I get a generic "An error has occurred" message.

Well, to be honest, this is somewhat like having a store with a broken front door so that people can't get in. It may not dissuade the dedicated customer, but some people will just decide not to deal with the hassle.

I am not sure what sort of blind spot they have with this feature, but this bug should have never even seen the light of day. That it did, and that they failed to fix it, deserves some introspection inside the studio.

It's possible. But we need to remember ESO is an easy to play game, marketed at the casual gamer market. The casual gamer does not frequent forums, does not generally have patience with stuff that doesn't do what it says on the tin.

We are informed here and help each other, and are reasonably technically savvy in most cases, but we are the tip of the iceberg as most players do not frequent the forums. This really is like me over-hauling my shop, advertising it to all and sundry then leaving the front door locked and not answering the phone. Sure, the devoted customer might peer around the back and knock on the back window, but most people will go elsewhere.

If you could think of bad things to affect a product relaunch, obfuscating access to the product for the single largest market in the world is high on that list.
