How can an MMO be 'milked'? Isn't the whole point of an MMO to last 10 years+?

A MMO yeah has to live 10+ years if they want to make a profit I agree but the fact that let's compare ESO to WOW; they release major content they developed every few years and have a cotume shop interweved. the dlc's that Zenimax release's all were made in the first year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Jk7LrLgRfg

And the fact they have to sell them individually over a course of 4+ years of content that should of came out year oneish-twoish time frame is ridiculous. that's Not surviving that is Milking any and all content that is left over in there data center's I wouldn't be surprised they would bundle this game with the next Elder scrolls game which is a card game there pulling a Star Wars galaxy move.

What makes you think ESO has ALL their DLCs already made? Sure they may have STARTED them before they release them if anything but they definitely don't have it all just sitting on the sidelines waiting to be released. If you wanna call any game milking players though then that would be the P2W games. THAT is milking players. I should know, I've seen a good few that rely heavily on spending real money to get top tier stuff.

Now I will say the scumbag award does not go to Zenimax, but they wont survive long if they keep this marketing model up. There Not Todd Howard It just doesn't work.

But all things aside this game was better in its Hay-day; I may seem like I am hating on it every post it's because I put 1,400 Hours into it and its sad to see something good go down hill.

ESO is almost the best but I put WoW:TBC above it because of overall experience and memories ;)

Right now ESO > WoW for me.

Well if the Crown Store happens to ever go belly up then ESO will most definitely end any form of "milking" anyone believes it has :p

It may seem like all the new major updates we are getting are not that significant but Zenimax may surprise us with one, especially if it's anywhere near the scaling of Wrothgar.

I loved asherons call and dark age of camelot, and I am not sure that will ever change. If either of those games returned in force, I would move to them. Oh yeah, I forgot ultima online, that too!

My biggest issue with ESO is that they don't have enough pvp content; add the justice system, or make an open world pvp server. That's all I want.

Some other feelings about ESO in relation to other games:
    • I love adventuring in eso; my first playthrough was awesome, just roaming anywhere I want and trying to kill things, and dying, then trying again.
    • I like that races have their own special traits.
    • DAOC RvR (like AvA in eso) had a much larger map than cyrodiil, and scroll bonuses in pvp affected the rest of the realm, so there was an incentive for everyone to get involved.
    • darkness falls (like imperial city) entry was determined by who owned a certain number of keeps.
    • FPS players excel at pvp: Everyone is terrible when aiming with joysticks, so a lot of pvp is determined by how well you aim your crosshairs; its cool that its true to elder scrolls, but it makes the learning curve for pvp too great for everyone to feel ok participating. Tab targeting is a good handicap for other players who avoid pvp because they can't aim well.
    • There's way too much homogeneity in playstyles from class to class; don't let everyone have access to everything on one build, make people choose more carefully what they want to fight with. As it stands, everyone runs shields, heals, CC, teleport/charge, high damage, and defensive. No matter what class I play, it all starts to feel like im using the same strategy to win. I'm not really fulfilling a role, in a role playing game :/

Most of ESO's quests are incredibly boring and the rewards are fairly meaningless. The pvp is nothing new and in big battles reduces most characters down to 2 skills. The dungeons are fun at first but become a chore. In the end the better player is the guy who is the most involved and gets the best gear. A Ferrari is a better automobile than a Taurus no matter how skilled the driver is. Same goes for this game.

I play on ps4 so I think the console experience lowered its rank for me. No text chat and missing a lot of basic mmo features made me have a lot less memorable mmo experienced compared to WoW, age of conan and swtor. Those are the 3 mmos I played the most along with eso.

Not sure how I would have felt about it if I played on pc in beginning. Still have a lot of fun playing though.

ESO would be my second favorite MMO I have played. My favorite was DDO, it simply had the best character customization and creation in any game I have ever played. I also rather enjoyed the combat mechanics and instanced questing. Story lines were pretty interesting as well.
ESO comes close combat system is A+, story lines are mostly rather well done(in base game and Orsinium).
Biggest downside is character creation and customization is simplistic in comparison.

So with One Tamriel drawing near a new chapter in The Elder Scrolls Online is going to open. But before it does, where does TESO stand in your list of preferred MMOs to date? Feel free to share what you think TESO has or doesn't have that other games do that either make TESO better or worse in that regard.

P.S. This thread is about TESO and how much people prefer it over other games, so let's keep it that way and not get too off track discussing other games.

    1).Everquest 2

2).Age of Conan ( i know ill take crap for this but 12 months after launch the game was awesome, inovative , and the ideas though poorly implemented were the back bone of modern post 2010 mmo's)

3).Rift ( by far the best launch product i have ever played, they were fast fix balance issues and gave away more content in 6 months then any MMO has been able to charge for in a 2 year period.

    4). Everquest 1

5). Ill give ESO #5 based on the game in its first 90 days. it was more of a MMO then. the direction of the product now does not even really qualify as a MMO now its more of a MSORPG with some MMO features.

Eso is great, but ffxi not ffxiv was my first. And it has so many jobs, huge open world, and content thst puts it shead of eso. Blue mages ftw.

Eso is my second, I like the open world, motifs and such. Pvp housing, mounts nope.

Bless online has better mounts, tame, ride anything in game 800 plus. Dungeons are cool. And pvp events, not the pvp are great. But this game lack of content.

Archeahe for housing and boats. Cant touch wTer in eso and housing comes later.

In the end ffxi and eso are my fav two games though.

On console eso is my favorite. I did enjoy killing dragons in neverwinter but it got old pretty quick. I played this one mmo that originated in Malaysia I believe called knight online, that I enjoyed more than just about any game. But it turned into a true pay 2 win game. It was mainly all pvp. They have it on steam now but it was invaded by a bunch of people from Turkey and now hackers run rampant.

It's my only MMO I've ever played.

Besides Planetside 2, but that doesn't really count, seeing as it's a Capture the Flag FPS.

Used to play Planetside2 since beta for 2 years quite frantically, but I just got sick of all the lag, hacking, glitches, horrible hit detection and generally clunky movement. It was a good idea on paper but executed VERY poorly and ran terribly, kinda like ESO, but even worse. It drew in quite a huge crowd at first but the population dwindled so badly they had to close numerous servers multiple times and had to sell the game to another publisher/developer.
Yeah... Good old Planetside 2 xD

I would put WoW first. Since it was my first. And Tera second. I just love the combat in Tera. It is the only mmo I log into to just go fight. No grinding in mind, no leveling, I just want to do the combat thing. Clumped up at three are GW2, ESO, and Aion. Some of the most fun I've had is getting killed in the air in Aion. So frustrating running out of time and falling. I probably would have liked it more if I was ever any good at pvp. But those pvp boss battles were a hoot.

I don't know much about MMOs. I played a bit of Guild Wars, the first one but not for long. Went back to Skyrim.

Thing is, if people are claiming this is the best, I am not impressed. I would hate to see what the other games are like then. The stupid bar on the bottom limiting your skills to use and only get experience that way? Meh, guess I have been spoiled by The Elder Scrolls.

Only reason I keep playing is because the landscape is beautiful and I can explore even on the Xbox One. Game play mechanics I am not impressed at all. Just seems like too much work and I play to get away from working.

    #1 Daoc (Trials of Atlantis)
    #2 Ultima Online (Asheron's Call)
    #3 Asheron's Call (WoW)
#4 World of Warcraft (Still play occasionally)
    #5 Everquest 2 (Friends left)
    #6 Warhammer (Closed Game)
#7 City of Heroes/Villains (Closed Game)
    #8 GW2 (Still Play)
#9 Age of Conan (Lack of mid level content and unfinished dungeons shortly after release)
#10 ESO (Play part time, bored with 4 classes and the death of hybrids)
#11 Eve (Couldn't take 3 hr jumps any more and rebuilding ships after each death)
#12 Lord of the Rings Online (Friends moved on. Needed better PVP)
    #13 Rift (average game)
#14 The Secret World (terrible combat animations)
#15 Planetside (just couldn't get into it)
#16 Archeage (horrible land rush in the beginning..farmville)

I've tried even more but didn't stay even long enough to rate them or arrived to late (like EQ when I was having a blast in AC)..
