I just never understand people who go to a PVP area but think it's dishonorable to PVP. Get over yourself. The world doesn't revolve around you and your intentions. I'm there to PVP and just because I attack you without having a chat or checking for your consent first does not make me a villain.

My wife and I had a similar experience a long while back while trying to complete the fishing achievement there. We were going from pond to pond and came across an EP character who was doing a little grinding. We watched each other to make sure no one was attacking, since they were out numbered they may not have wanted to chance it. It was actually nice to just roam around in there leaving each other be doing our own thing.

You will meet people like this all over Cyrodil. Unfortunately they are outnumbered by those players who are just out for ganking. Just last night, my wife and I went to one of the new towns as she had a quest there. It's the one over by Sej and usually EP owned yet it was blue. She arrived there first and said there was a red floating around in steatlh. We walked about a bit and uncovered the red, we didn't attack, I stood up so they could see me and nothing happened.

We moved over to where she could turn in the quest but the NPC was too close to the flag so the guards pulled. We fought them off no problem and then a DC Sorc jumped in the mix. The EP player helped us kill the DC player and then they started on the flag. As they hit the guards, my wife completed her quest. Then the blue came back and started fighting the red. I'm not sure if they were dueling or what not but their fight lasted a good 10 minutes and had gone longer if I hadn't hit him with a Javalin and then the Jesus beam to the face as I couldn't resist since it's a blue and they are in the lead in Azura.

It's nice when you can meet people who are out there to just do their own thing and leave you well enough alone

I read the first post and it was essentially.... enemy didn't attack me ...... i held up block and backed away .... people who don't attack you in the pvp zone are honorable. Are you trying to sell it as something else?

    *facepalm*

Yeah you completely missed the point. Completely.

That's not what the first post was at all. It was about how these particular guys very easily could have slaughtered me, because they vastly outnumbered me, but they were choosing to only engage in honourable even strength combats. If one of them had decided to attack me anyway even though I was interested in a fight and killed me one-on-one, I'd still consider that to be honourable, and I still would have made a very similar post. If they had all decided to jump on me I would have just shrugged and said "hey, I don't respect those guys at all (purely because I don't respect people who need to have the odds vastly in their favour in order to fight), but it's a war zone after all."

The entire point of this thread is to draw attention to those interactions with enemy players that make you stop and say "hey, that was really cool - I like that guy/those guys". It's not about "people who attack me in PVP are bad"! If you had actually bothered to read the thread you would have seen that several times I explicitly say that I have absolutely no problem with people attacking me in PVP:
    UrQuan wrote: »
I understand it's a PVP zone, and it's perfectly OK for them to want to kill me and attack even if I happen to not want to fight another player at that time, but I just have more respect for the ones who care more about having the challenge of a fair fight than about racking up their kill count.

It's a war zone, so you kind of can't complain if you get ganked. A few weeks ago (just before the IC event was announced) I took a newish character to IC to do some of the quests, and when I went to the Nobles District I saw an enemy player doing the same quest that I was on and defending one of the doors. I decided to jump in and help him, being sure to only use single target abilities and make it clear I was fighting the daedra and not him. I don't think he actually noticed right away what I was doing and he attacked me - I probably could have survived long enough to make it clear I wasn't trying to fight him, but suddenly a friend of his (well, someone from the same alliance anyway) came charging around the corner right into me, and I was dead super fast. I wasn't mad, though, I knew the risks.
Boy, for someone who apparently thinks it's dishonourable for people in a war zone to attack me if I'm not interested in a fight, I sure spend a lot of time talking about how it's perfectly OK for people to kill me in a war zone even when I'm not interested in a fight! Weird, huh?

So I guess your problem is that you somehow think that when I call out a particular group as being honourable that automatically means that I think everyone who I didn't specifically call out is dishonourable? I saw proof that these particular players were especially honourable, so I talked about it here. That doesn't imply remotely that other players aren't honourable - just that those particular players are.

Man, someone is defensive today. Nobody disagrees with you PVPing Erock25, its just kinda cool to see folks working together sometimes in PVP/PVE environments or showing restraint when they certainly don't have to. Folks are so sensitive nowadays, must be something in the water...

    Loving all the stories.
I have a guildie who pretty regularly makes friends with enemy players when he's clearing delves in Cyrodiil.

My guild was taking our lowbie DC characters to get some skyshards one day and we ran into an AD player at a delve near their gates. He was fairly low level and a sorc with pets, so we tried to communicate with him that we were not going to attack him, told him how he could get his pets to stop attacking us and made sure he got a hit in on the bosses when they spawned so he'd get credit for the delve.

Another time we were running with our EP characters and met an AD player in a delve as well. I had just told a friend how to whisper enemy players and he communicated that we were not going to attack him (there were about 8 of us).
Unfortunately, one of the mobs threw me behind some roots and I was stuck. We tried to get other mobs to kill me, but that didn't work, another friend ended getting stuck as well. Then we asked the enemy player, who was a DK, if he could use chains to pull us out and it worked! Was quite the experience.

Both players ended up joining our guild as well.

When we are in a group doing PvE in Cyrodiil or IC, we usually try to not attack other players unless they attack us first. It doesn't always work because we get trigger happy, but we'd rather leave other questers/crafters be.

Yes I'm defensive because every day someone cries in imperial city to me. Every damn day. I play about a hour a day if I'm lucky and usually spend it in IC, and every damn time someone says hey don't kill me I'm just doing quests. Well yeah but I'm just doing pvp.

This thread was lovely & made me want to risk doing the quests in IC but then @Erock25's posts have made me rethink this plan.
See, I am newish to MMOs & totally clueless about pvp but want to do the quests in IC & Cryodiil as have done everything else.
Why are there pve questlines in a pvp area if they can't be completed without pvp?

And may I just ask about questing in Cyrodiil - does it matter what campaign you log in to? Are the quests available in all of them?

I have had many lovely experiences in IC where players didn't touch eachother, or only went for boss NPC enemies, but unfortunately none of those got on my friends list.

However in situations where people go for the kill, I have met a bunch of players I got on my friends list. I mean it's where I even got hooked on the best pickup line I've ever heard from a DK in tamriel, complimenting me "You templar shield spamming pig!" <3 my heart just melted Q.Q (...please understand I suck at pvp really really bad, so any reaction of that type is a huge compliement)

was questing with my son tonight (he is only lvl 22).
had some back and forth fights with 2x DC max level guys. I whispered GG and asked if we could complete the quest since lvl 22 was no match for them. They obliged and let us finish. Felt good 10/10.

Do em, it's fun. Guess what happens if you die in this game? Nothing. So PvP areas are an added challenge, but it's not like you're actually risking anything. You just have to run back to where you were or run somewhere else.

You'll probably end up liking PvP after awhile.

@Hallothiel all quests can be done in all campaigns.
...but if you want to quest in Cyrodiil then choose a campaign that is mainly dominated by your own faction, because the system there is different.
    • PVE = wayshrine, can freely port between them.
    • PVP = transit shrines are at your base and owned keeps - you can only port between keeps that your faction owns. So to avoid a long horse ride, it is best to choose a campaign where your faction dominates keeps. (it can take 10min+ to ride form one end of the map to the other, Cyrodiil is really big)
    • Imperial City entrance is 2 keeps distance away from your base, so there will be a horse ride but it is not as bad as Cyrodiil.
Certain skyshards are limited and require you take 2 keeps, then siege a wall to be able to get through and pick up the skyshard.... so it's best to do skyshard hunting with a group/guild/friends/pugs than alone.

Yeah, as long as you go into it without a sense of entitlement (as in: feeling entitled to go and do these PVE quests without being attacked and killed), and for IC as long as you get into a mindset of "I don't care if I barely end up with any Tel Var stones", you'll find that the majority of the time even if you get slaughtered you won't care.* If there's one particular place where you're trying to complete a quest or whatever, and you keep getting killed there without being able to do it, don't get mad - just take a break and come back later.

Or come with a bunch of friends. Actually, for a couple of the story quests in Imperial City coming with a bunch of friends is a good idea anyway. The dailies can all easily be done solo, but you don't unlock those until you've done all of the story quests. There are 2 story quests in particular that can be difficult to do solo: the one in the arena district, and, um, I totally don't remember what district the other one is.

Whether you'll find you like PVP after dealing with it while doing this PVE stuff is hard to say. I find that I vastly prefer PVE to PVP, and as a result I don't often go to the PVP zones. At the same time, though, I have had some very fun times in PVP.

*You may still find yourself caring about getting slaughtered when it happens either through an obvious exploit, or through a situation where you had absolutely no chance to either survive or get away - like when you're solo and you get run over by a zerg. Of course, you may also find yourself just laughing at situations like that. Most of the time in cases like that I just laugh, but every now and then it annoys me. Of course, I also sometimes throw myself at a zerg with wild abandon just because I feel like it...

I tend to find there is a lot of mutual respect when in the sewers. If you don't attack someone a lot of the time they'll leave you be.
That would be limited to where you are, as I've not seen it.

Took me weeks to manage to finish that IC "defend the 3 doors" quest. I kept getting yanked by reds who then ran away, so credit for completing that wave of daedra didn't happen. Respawn, return to try to finish the wave, get ganked again. It was obvious I was only interested in the quest, they got a total of 2 tel var stones from me, and so little alliance points. Sometimes the quest would glitch, the next wave wouldn't come, and I had to abandon and restart the quest. Frakking reds...

On the other hand, just last night I ran across a couple blues while I was out farming. And this is what erock25 doesn't understand - Sometimes people are not interested in messing up other people's gameplay. So we all didn't wreck each other's gameplay, and went our separate ways.

That one's probably the most frustrating quest to try to do when there are enemy players around. That's why I never attack any enemy players I see doing that quest (although depending on my mood I do often attack enemy players doing other quests - which backfires on me about as often as it goes well for me :D ).

Thanks for the replies! I probably will give it a go - not likely to get upset if ganked as am fully expecting that to happen - not good at min/max perfect builds etc or what different builds needed for pvp (one charac is a sorc with a pet which I understand is a bad thing :| )

I've had it happen a few times, but more often I expect no mercy in the sewers. There have also been a couple of times in the sewers when I started attacking someone and they started doing the "only blocking and healing" thing, and I got the message that they weren't interested in a fight and we left each other alone.

But yeah, more often than not if I see an enemy player (or two, or three, or a zerg lol) in the sewers I expect it to be a fight to the death. Frequently my death lol.

Strong advice, and applicable to much more than PvP in video games. Also @Hallothiel: don't panic, line-of-site. That one only applies to PvP in video games.
