    Huh?!

They have the same mitigation and resistances as any other caster.

Except they are ranged, which exposes them to less damage (advantage vs. Templars and DKs).

And their main spammable abilities (Funnel, Sap) heal without you having to think about it or applying a pre-buff (advantage vs. Sorcs and DKs).

Magblades have the best survivability of any caster. Any "squishy" magblade is someone who isn't playing correctly and will likely be even squishier on another caster.

    magplar no ranged stuff?

    really????

i must be playing it wrong then

Dark Flare has a cast time. Cannot be blockcast. And does not heal you.

And later in the game when a player has CP, it won't benefit from the oodles of Thaumaturge points that Templars will have spent. It has its uses, but it's situational and is not your main DPS ability.

Puncturing Sweeps is a magplar's main spammable. It's melee range.

There is, however, dark flare, which I think is seriously underused. It hits hard...

@code65536 I'm going to agree with you that magicka NB does have its bells and whistles. I've played all the magicka types, and NB is by far my favorite. They have a lot of great skills to choose from, and they can cloak longer.

The reason I went with stam NB though is b/c it has a place in PvP, while mNB really does not right now (nor in Update 12). As a tradeoff though, mNBs are really good in vMSA (not the easist, that would be Sorc). But what would a new player more likely do? vMSA or PvP?

Finally, I agree with @Oh_Skrivva. A new player should start with whatever they want.

    aurora javelin

    spear shards

    reflective light

    dark flare

    back lash

    radiant

    destructive reach

    force shock

and of course your choice of meteor morph once you hit 10 in the mages guild

all 28m range, use them in various combinations on both bars... i kite most stuff

I gave you the agree and I would have given an awesome as well. Add to all that you listed the burst heals (BoL) and Hot/purge extended ritual (and morphs) and you have the bar none easiest class for a new players to advance with in this game.

you will be jabbing a lot, I find it an annoying skill. Maybe they will find the animation and sound awesome

Magplar. It's the easiest class to play in PVP. You can heal in PVE, or become a DPS. The magplar DPS rotation isn't the hardest thing in the game. Solo questing when you start off it's the most forgiving, it's the easiest to grind and you provide group utility without even trying.

All in all, nerf magplar. Buff MagDK.

    Best class for someone new?

    I'd say Stamina Dragonknight.

Yes, Stamina DK has a slightly higher learning curve, but its not something insurmountable. In PVE and PVP their DPS and Burst is very very good.

they have solid passives in Battle Roar, Helping Hands, and Eternal Mountain. They have very good magic dump utility skills(Reflective Scales, Volatile Armor, Igneous Shield, and Fossilize), they have access to Major Mending + an extra 12% healing from having a Draconic Power active. They have a fun hard hitting class Ultimate in Take Flight, and very good synergy with poison. They also have great synergy with both medium and heavy armor, and are probably the tankiest of the stam specs overall.

Also, if your a dueler, I think Stam DK is the strongest 1v1 class in the game. If not the strongest its in the running. Overall, i see Stam DK as a spec one could invest in that should be good for the forseeable future.

at the end of the day though, play what you think is going to be the most fun for you :)

    Rinaldo Gandolphi-Breton Sorcerer Daggerfall Covenant
Juste Gandolphi Dark Elf Templar Daggerfall Covenant

Mathias Gandolphi - Breton Nightblade Daggerfall Covenant
RinaldoGandolphi - High Elf Sorcerer Aldmeri Dominion
    Officer Fire and Ice
    Co-GM - MVP

Sorcerer's - The ONLY class in the game that is punished for using its class defining skill (Bolt Escape)

"Here in his shrine, that they have forgotten. Here do we toil, that we might remember. By night we reclaim, what by day was stolen. Far from ourselves, he grows ever near to us. Our eyes once were blinded, now through him do we see. Our hands once were idle, now through them does he speak. And when the world shall listen, and when the world shall see, and when the world remembers, that world will cease to be. - Miraak

Stam NB is not best for new players. Yeah they hit hard, but they have nothing going for them survivability-wise. If your friend is a talented gamer then try out the stam NB; it's rewarding for the skilled. If your friend is kind of meh then go with the magicka templar. It is the easiest class you can play, as well as one of the most powerful (if not THE most powerful). Plus in PvE everyone and their mother will want you in their group due to the utility a templar brings.

    I'd go for magicka templar.

For someone brand new to the game and unfamiliar with the various metas, gear sets, mechanics, non-MMO traditional elements like tabbed healing, AoE taunts etc, comparatively limited utility bars, quickslot wheel, alchemy, passives of all types etc etc then being able to heal yourself at low levels while still doing reasonable damage will make the whole experience more enjoyable and help promote further investment into the game.

All classes are fun in their own way. The worst pick would be a race and class and build that someone else made instead of picking something that seems likable to you, and then learn it from there.

For a first timer I would say, either Magika Templar, or a Magika Nightblade. Both come with an early spammable attack that self heals.

If you like melee Magika Templar since their healing attack and main damage dealer is melee. And Ranged for Magika Nightblade since their toolkit is more ranged.

    I vote stam NB.

They are front-runners in DPS in PvP and PvE, and they have utility with their cloak, which is useful for getting out of sticky situations. It'll also help with the content of 2 DLCs: the dark brotherhood and thieves guild.

People have claimed that it's easy to use. It will require a bit of work to get the foundational self-heals though. Vigor requires spending a bit of time in PvP, and rally (from 2H) doesn't unlock until the skill line is quite underway.

If unsure what to choose, pick a build from someone else and try it. Modify it from there so it suits you. That´s how I did.

Stam DK has a higher learning curve though.

DK's in general are the best overall PVE DPS, and PVP DPS. But the learning curve is high.

This is an older thread, but what the heck.

Don't forget also, many normal dungeons, and a couple non-DLC vet dungeons, if you're crazy enough and have the patience (with heavy set combo and a bit higher health and survivability).. However, for dps-wise, I have been taking note from a lot of youtube clips (past and present) on some huge damage numbers coming from a magsorc and stamsorc; 40k to almost 60k from an attack or combo of. Come on.. how is that so possible from one class over another?!
