They have the same mitigation and resistances as any other caster.
Except they are ranged, which exposes them to less damage (advantage vs. Templars and DKs).
And their main spammable abilities (Funnel, Sap) heal without you having to think about it or applying a pre-buff (advantage vs. Sorcs and DKs).
Magblades have the best survivability of any caster. Any "squishy" magblade is someone who isn't playing correctly and will likely be even squishier on another caster.
magplar no ranged stuff?
really????
i must be playing it wrong then

Puncturing Sweeps is a magplar's main spammable. It's melee range.
There is, however, dark flare, which I think is seriously underused. It hits hard...
@code65536 I'm going to agree with you that magicka NB does have its bells and whistles. I've played all the magicka types, and NB is by far my favorite. They have a lot of great skills to choose from, and they can cloak longer.
The reason I went with stam NB though is b/c it has a place in PvP, while mNB really does not right now (nor in Update 12). As a tradeoff though, mNBs are really good in vMSA (not the easist, that would be Sorc). But what would a new player more likely do? vMSA or PvP?
Finally, I agree with @Oh_Skrivva. A new player should start with whatever they want.

I vote stam NB.
They are front-runners in DPS in PvP and PvE, and they have utility with their cloak, which is useful for getting out of sticky situations. It'll also help with the content of 2 DLCs: the dark brotherhood and thieves guild.
People have claimed that it's easy to use. It will require a bit of work to get the foundational self-heals though. Vigor requires spending a bit of time in PvP, and rally (from 2H) doesn't unlock until the skill line is quite underway.
All classes are fun in their own way. The worst pick would be a race and class and build that someone else made instead of picking something that seems likable to you, and then learn it from there.

Stamdk #1 in pve dps XD
Dragonknight easily. You can solo dolmens, bosses and public dungeons easily.
