A public apology? Really?

A few days ago I was kicked from a guild because of some comment I made in a specific thread (as helpfully been stated in the letter attached to the kick notification).
My (former) guild asked me to publicly apologize for my comments if I ever want back into their ranks.
I haven't been long in the guild and barely participated in their activities, yet it made me kinda sad that I've bee left out.
I am NOT going to apologize for my comments, for I think every person is entitled to his/her opinion.
I am not a stupid, or barbaric or bad person altogether, so I am going to apologize for the inconvenience my comments may have caused to the guild. It was never my intention to paint you good name with dirt.
However... I think that being kicked for your opinion you expressed on the forums? Really? I think it's childish.
I hope Brave Cats will find a better substitution for me.
May you walk on warm sands and the Moons light your path.

P.S. Oh and I loved the suicide potion joke! Very funny!

The comment you made would have caused you to be kicked from our guild, too. And we have never kicked anyone (only removed inactives).

You said some cruel and ignorant things that would reflect badly on any guild, and most likely make many people want to avoid grouping and playing with you.

Freedom of speech is one thing, but there are also common decency and manners.

And I respect their decision. I just don't agree with the cause.
You see, it's our problem: We judge people by their comments, their behavior. But we could never be more wrong. I learned that on my own example. Yes people say and do stupid stuff (or you may see stupid), and others are fast to react: We drop bombs, place embargos, kick and ban. May be we should talk before we do all that? Did anyone ask me why I think the way I do? No. No one cares. Fine. I respect that. I don't care about stuff too. But we should talk more. Know each other before we do something rash.

In any case, what's done is done. I did my part. Expressed my opinion, got kicked, apologized for the inconvenience, learned not to rely on peoples' intelligence once again.
    Topic closed.

no you're not. you didn't apologize, instead you made a big post saying "my guild asked me to apologize and I'm not gonna" you're attempting to just spread drama and smear the guild who kicked you out. no one cares man. slink off into the dark and find another guild

My decision to remove you stands.
I said the the mail if the thread is closed you can talk to me and the other leader.
The comments you made were toxic and I have no interest in reinviting you anymore.
The fact that other people said the same thing I did, and you didn't even link the thread, means I can rest easy knowing I made the correct decision.
Our guild is full of amazing and lovely individuals, if you feel left out, then I'm not responsible for your actions and comments.
How hard is it to write, "I'm sorry that was insensitive"?
"I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes"...

    What an unfortunate situation...

You guys should try to understand each other before stooping to public humiliation. Just as there are two sides to a single coin, both of you had legitimate prespectives on said issue. Even if you couldn't reach an agreement beyond disagreement, it didn't need to come here.
The generally amicable yet sporadically salty magplar that may or may not have 1vXed you in Sotha Sil. Who knows?

It is my opinion. How hard is it to understand? And I will not apologize for it. Sorry. And I can understand if our views are different. I did what I could or considered appropriate according to my credos with respect to your request.
I'm glad you saw the topic. That was the intention.
Good day to you and good luck.

Now it would be time to close the thread for good.

    You're correct. It didn't.

Suicide is something that has affected my life hugely. Seeing that written in the comments of a thread trying to help some one made me feel so low. Low for people who think like that, not the ones whom have the suicide issue.

Once again you think suicide is a joke.

    No.

This is one of the alchemy potions in the top teir alchemy writs.

I attach items so they stay in the mail box longer and had no use for this.

Just some advice, but I'm not sure posting insensitive comments then making a passive aggressive thread directed at a guild ("I'm supposed to apologize but don't care and won't so let's just make the guild look like the bad guys") will help you out in a search for a new guild if you're still feeling left out...it's also quite unwise to say something insensitive and use the typical "well I can have my own opinion" justification. There is a fine line between a difference in opinions and being downright harsh/insensitive.

I agree with the poster above. As much as I enjoy some good drama, this sort did not need to come here.

Actually I found it pretty hilarious considering the nature of our disagreement.

Once again in not making a drama. As I said I respect their decision. I just say that things like that should be avoided. I could have come here raging and accusing. I did not. But you accuse me of these things. You don't know me. You have no right of it to decide for me how should I think or what things I should consider appropriate.
Where I live, death is an everyday matter. Not that you should care. Accusing me of speaking of things I don't know is childish.

In my time playing ESO I was also kicked once by wrong accusation of something I didn't do (some other guy did) and I tried to solve it peacefully on the forum and then with ZOS admin - but it didn't work, my word against GM's word, impossible to check who is right. What's done is done and now, from a perspective I think my grief was unnecessary, I should forget it and find another guild - there is plenty out there. I will do it, if I'll be kicked next time (hope that not gonna happen).
But you write you haven't been long in this guild so probably not much worries for you, no friends yet there, right? And the guild didn't come here embarassing you, you came to embarass the guild instead. It's not surprise the guildies try to save a good name of their guild now :).
But... if it's true that you were asked to publicly apologize for your comments, that would be humiliating and unnecessary for you and I agree that's childish. That also would explain a bit your willingness to come and write here about the problem - if they asked you to show the problem up here. But also hard to prove on the forum who were really right, since the naming and shaming and other stuff. No way to clearly explain the story by both sides ahead of wider audience. Best thing now is to forgive & forget :).

We live in a world of vastly differing opinions. Every single person has a right to his/her opinion, whether we think that opinion is right or wrong is irrelevant.

IMO i would only remove a person from a guild if they were abusive to others and not for having a different opinion (as long as that opinion was voiced during debate)
  • bIuhazelnut

Sometimes "opinions" can be abusive, if presented in specific and delicate enough context.
