OP, you weren't wrong for having an opinion on suicide and expressing it; you were however in error when you hijacked a thread about a person who was missing and possibly in danger by turning the thread into your own dear diary thoughts on suicide. It's perfectly fine to believe what you do about suicide, but your post added nothing useful to thread in question, and jeopardized that OP's goal of finding and reaching out to his guildmate. That was an *** move, so man up, and apologize for it, because that's what grown ups do when they make a mistake..

OP's Guildmates, you also have a valid opinion on the issue, but stop taking yourself so seriously. It's okay to get angry and fight with one another every now and then. That's healthy. Controversy is healthy and necessary, as this thread has proved. Taboos are not. Embrace the conflict, don't hide or try to whitewash it. You overstepped, but you've acknowledged it. So well done. Now give the kid reasonable terms for continued existence in your guild that involve actual person to person communication, and do it in private. Imagine if your boss had made you publicly apologize for saying something that you sincerely believed to be true. You'd probably be upset as well.
