ZOS & Imperial City One Year Anniversary RANT

A few days ago I would tell anyone that ESO is my favorite game. Easily. But now.......... First, they announce the gamble crates. What is even worse that this, you may ask? What could possibly be worse than the thing that is worse than the COD crates? The upcoming Imperial City collector's pack. Look, the reason I disliked the gamble crates is because they will allow people to get "LIMITED time" cosmetics. This takes away the whole limited factor! Never again will I impulse buy because it is limited. This is a dirty, dirty tactic ZOS, and you know it. You know how many people will gamble away hundreds for a frost horse. Not long ago, I supported ZOS' business model, as I understood it to be how the company made money. Then, the breton hero costume came out, which was absolute garbage, and I bought it. The only reason I didn't refund it is because it is "limited", mind you. If they go through with this I probably will. Recently, the god-awful gamble crates were announced, and then I realized what is going on. ZOS is trying to milk us for what we have left, and soon it may end up like Black Desert Online.

Why am I mad about the Imperial City Anniversary bundle? Two words. LIMITED TIME. I bought the mind-shriven skin last year and skipped the horse. Now, instead of hoping you get the cosmetic, you can directly buy it! Do I wish I had the mind-shriven horse to go along with my skin? Yes, of course I do. Do you know what I want even more? Limited time items to be limited time. For example, I, like many others, missed out on the frost horse. What did I do? Did I become a special snowflake and frantically complain in the forums that other people were more active or more aware at that time, and everyone should be able to get it again? No. If I see a frost horse It usually means the rider is experienced because he's been around a while. Same for the zombie horse, or even the mind-shriven horse. What about the Nightmare courser? I see a new player who hopped on a bandwagon. Now, fast forward when everyone has an icy or electric mount. What will I see? Well first of all they will be everywhere, which will be rather distracting, but having that mount is no longer an accomplishment. It no longer shows, "Hey, yeah I've been here a long time," or "Hey, I'm a dedicated player." It now shows, "I have lots of money."

My point is these mounts and cosmetics will lose their uniqueness, and think about this ZOS: If ESO were real, ice mounts would be very rare, as they are currently. I think this "muh immersion" call is justified, because something like that should only be seen very rarely. In conclusion, ZOS please revert your choices. Don't head down this path. This is currently my favorite game, and I want you to save it. #MakeESOGreatAgain

If you're so concerned about the rarity of mounts I wouldn't worry too much since the 'gamble boxes' will only contain consumables unless someone is really lucky and gets a mount/costume. Then it will still take multiple boxes most of the time to get any of those at all, so things will stay rare.

They are still limited time. Any amount of time they spend off the Crown Store means they're only available for a limited time. It's like pumpkin spice coffee. It's only available for a limited time at most places, but it keeps coming back. And it's delicious and I love it. It came back too early this year AGAIN, though. For some reason people think fall starts in August, shaking my fuzzy head.

Anyway there are still lots of great reasons to hate the gambling boxes, but this idea that "limited time" means "never happening again" doesn't do it for me.

Remember, this offer will only be open for 6 days. Also, it seems you will need to buy the entire collectors bundle just to get the mind-shriven skin and horse.

No matter which way you swing it, there is still going to be a very limited number of people investing in the pack. I just missed this last year on XBox, and have been wanting the chance to get this skin ever since. So, I will likely fork out for the bundle.

You want to talk abount mount uniques?
There was a time when Cyrodil looked like this (btw joke is: you can count non-white mounts on fingers, all those folks bought imperial Edition - and this vid was created very shortly after game release)
    https://youtu.be/-DV9TwsosyI?t=130

Now? imperial horse is one of RAREST mount. i see more of dro mathra and wolves then this white horse
And camel are ultra rare too, mostly cos they give you "sea sickness" effect for riding too much on them.

For mind shriven horse and armor?
jokes on you -im going to buy it for sure >:)

btw no need for this thread(as separate one) and its going to be locked

Special snowflake status will be re-applied once the bundle has finished its duration in the store.

I'm currently waiting for the Masked Bear to finish it's round so that I can finally claim my very own special snowflake status. It will be so sweet, and everyone will be jealous.

I suggest buying stuff that you think look nice because it looks nice, not to try to be different from everybody else. That can save you some frustration later if they decide to bring more stuff back for a limited time for direct purchase (although I imagine that, with Crown Crates, this is the last time this will happen).
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

This. The McRib returns every year and is "limited time".

There is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing old items back for direct purchase periodically. This is a good thing.

While it may be semantics, the Mind Shriven horse was never advertised as limited. It was offered at IC launch with no caveats about how long it was going to stay in the Crown Store - it was only with the October 2, 2015 Crown Store Showcase where they said the Mind Shriven horse was leaving the Crown Store on November 2. It was not offered or priced the same as the 4-day Limited Time mounts like the bear currently up for offer.

Perfect comparison. Because you need cosmetics in ESO as much as you need a McRib for lunch.

Right. ZOS have said since the very first "limited time" item that such items would most likely be available again for similar limited periods in the future.

Are you being facetious? What's broken or unfinished about the Imperial City? The only thing funky about it is that it doesn't contribute to the campaign.

I don't mean unfinished as in they gave up on it part way through. But it just never really worked the way it was meant to. Then they added the capture flags which were meant to improve it but made it worse as, due to only having 1 flag it meant Larger number of players won most of the time.

It is the only 'PvP DLC' in the game and all the districts are so covered in Monsters you can't even traverse them without aggroing a million monsters. As well as monsters aggroing you mid fight with another player. Tel Var stones being kinda useless after you buy the set or 2 that you need from them and it generally being really disappointing for PvP players.

Nowadays the main population is Grinders, Farmers and a couple of Gankers. I don't want to have an argument about it but it just never really achieved what it was meant to in regards to PvP. :)

If the announcement is accurate, you will be buying the entire bundle which includes everything and not the individual items separately. Typically bundles are 5000 crowns, seems a lot just for a skin. Guess we will see Monday .....

Ooookay I understand what you're saying now. Not so much about the larger number of players winning (I mean that happens in all the PvP), but at least in terms of it being a PvE-focused PvP update. I'd say that while it's largely PvE-focused, it does offer some very unique PvP strategies and situations to play out, and I'm always happy at the end of a jaunt in the Imperial City. Definitely not a serviceable map for all player types, though.

Interesting how you must resort to personal attacks at this point, when I have directed no hate towards you. Anyways, I am not speaking of McDonalds or whatever irrelevant comparisons are being made, but I am speaking of our trust in ZOS. You see, limited, in its general use, refers to something being restricted, and by that definition you may find that these items would be limited in number. It is -not- limited in number if it is slapped back into the store for all to buy.
