Player Housing. How do we want it?

I want player housing to be accompanied by class balance changes and some long-desired features to existing systems (being able to preview styles before crafting, being able to sort through filters better on traders on console, etc).

Player housing could be great, but I see it as a big shiny thing to get people excited about so they ignore the real problems and the things they really need in the game.

There is no way, absolutely no way in hell that buying a house will be anything except crowns, and a lot of them at that.

And you are basing that off of real information, or just a random gut feeling?

I honestly don't have much excitement for it. It'll just be one of those things that'll be there for me. I'll probably mess around with it but I won't put in a lot of effort / currency into it.

It will either be in the form of DLC or straight Crown store. It is not part of the base game, I can't see this just being added as a base game quest reward or just for gold.

The house itself should be a reward from a quest. Basic improvements and basic decoration should be earned by playing (quests or kinda like skyrim style).

But, of course, they will put crown store only decoration/materials.

To be honest, it should have a lot of questing involved to get the house done, and after that, one should be able to buy stuff with in-game gold and (cooler) stuff with crowns ^^ That's just my opinion.

If I don't have something--preferably lots of somethings that I actually want--to spend my in-game gold on for housing I will be very sad.

That said, I expect I will be very sad.

Should have had a "I don't want player housing" option up there as It is one of those things that has no real purpose in the game as the game is now.

Apart from that, have it as a crown store purchase like all of the other items you do not actually need to play the game. That way those of us who don't want it can ignore it and move on.

I'm almost certain there'll be a Crown store element to it, but it'd be nice if you could get some things for in-game gold. I also like the idea of certain quests unlocking certain houses, e.g. an NPC dies unavoidably during the quest so their house now becomes available for purchase post-quest, or finishing a guild quest line gets you access to a house (like one on Eyevea for the Mages Guild, there are some vendors working out of house-like buildings there which could do their job just as well in a street stall just saying ;)). I think it'd be neat to be able to use things you got from questing as decorations too.

Getting the property should be in game gold/quest basee.

Getting cosmetics to the place could be crown selled "mats" to woodworking, maybe in some motif system, where you csn grind to get, or buy to get.

Some special furniture needs to be crown based ofc. To create revenue

But if everything is crown based, the player base will be severely dissapointed i think.

I'm fine with paying for housing like we pay for DLC, but it should be actually part of the game, something you work towards and can play around with - if they put it all behind credit card I don't see what fun housing could possibly be anymore.

That's not going to happen, it would put casuals in a non-enjoyable position and that is where the money is mainly coming from. Pi$$ing us off is not a good idea, we can spend this money as well on other games, it does not have to be this one.

Or to say it more clearly, I want to be able to buy property - as many as I like - I do not want to quest for it or to have to earn it in game, I want to buy it with real money. But ... those have to be nice homes, I am pretty picky when it comes to real estate.

I'm afraid that how do we want it and how will it be implemented in practice are two different things which means that our wishes in this regard don't matter at all.

    My vote.
    - Subscribers/dlc players get the house for crowns (they have crowns, they don't need to do anything in game for the house)
    - Non-subscriber gets small hutt for gold (100k for example) once they completed all cadwell silver and gold quests on all maps on one character. Once they complete it again on another character - which means they are ESO Addicted - they get a mansion, for 1 milion gold :D .
That way more people will spend more time in game, first on completing more pve content, second on earning money :).

In your scenario, I would rather be a non-subscriber or would prefer not to have DLCs just to be able to get a house for ingame gold and not for real money (crowns) ;-)

Ideally I would settle for a one time DLC style purchase (maybe 1000 crowns) that unlocks a quest to get the land and pay for the extras with in game gold. Would be a top notch gold sink. But let's face it, ZOS are going to show their disdain for their loyal players and kick us in the balls by making all the bits and pieces Crown Store only purchases. Also Making them a monthly rental thing would be downright criminal. Please prove me wrong ZOS and do the right thing by the players.

I feel that buying the 'base' house should be a crown store purchase. Then any expansion of the house should be by crafting walls, furniture, etc.
Edit: Have some furniture available in the crown store for those that do not want to craft anything.

Paying a weekly 'rental fee' would be fine, if you could pay ahead of time ( multiple weeks ). If you fall behind in your rent, you would have, lets say 30 days to catch up ( you would be locked out of your house ). If they foreclose, then your stuff would be put in storage for 6 months. There would be no storage fee to get your stuff out. After 6 months your stuff would be deleted ( this is for people that leave the game and don't return.

    Quest and Gold.

The player is awarded with a plot of land at the end of the quest.
At that point they have multiple routes to build/upgrade their house over time:

    1) Craft the components for each room/item/stage themselves.
    2) Buy crafted components through the traders.

if they really must include a crown based option then:

    3) Buy components through the crown store (for those utterly impatient people)

That way everyone has a chance at a house irrespective of play-style and it isn't tied exclusively to the crown store while expanding crafting (restoring some of its utility after it has been repeatedly whaled on by ZOS).

Anyone who thinks for even a second that housing will be anything other than 100% Crown store purchases is completely delusional.

Having us work for it makes it feel like we really own it. Irregardless of it being a crown or gold purchase I want a quest to go with it. Of course that's what I wanted with the Crown Store werewolf bite and look how that went. Not having things like mounts, pets and maybe costumes come with their own side quests feels kinda cheap to me. I hope they do better for the future of the game and it's players.

I'd like it to be included with ESO+ subscription! Maybe there could be super fancy mansions that can only be purchased with Crowns/Gold/AP/whatever. But a quality, middle class house and furnishings included with ESO+ would be great.

Multiple options is always nice. Maybe depending on the quality of the house could be tied with certain options? Like if you purchase the crown store one, it could be bigger and more badass. Or if it's quest related you could it could tied to the difficulty of the quest with multiple levels of quests available. If you wanted to purchase it with gold, then the more you spend the better the house. Options are always better. It always allows people to choose how to get what they want. Less complaining as well.
