[SUGGESTION] A classless ESO

Why is this necessary though? This would be a total change of game. Like massive. Strip all 10 of my characters of their classes that I have specifically chosen race and class and gear combo for builds that I enjoy. All the time spent and you want to redefine the game. I don't care for your suggestion because it is silly and totally uncalled for.

The current class setups compliment each other with buffs, purges, heals, shields, etc. When combined it's really cool. For trials you want a little bit of everything to do best. Your idea for a better game turns this all upside down and would also make it difficult to find out what other characters to group with.

Are you having a problem with the game? That's why I say play something else. There are plenty of us that enjoy the product as is. Your suggestion is too big of a change and might as well play oblivion because it sounds like you prefer that kind of class/ leveling style.

Why all these suggestions to severely alter the game that a lot of people enjoy as is. If your ideas are so great go make your own game you want to turn the game upside down because why? You know best?

Because this system is not RP friendly and this game claims to be RPG game. If they have classes, that are not suited for RPG, what is the point? If this game would be more close to an action game, I wouldn't complain, but even in Rift, which has really weak stories/quests and is a lot about group content, has better class management than ESO, then I have to say, that it is wrong.

Also it goes against any class archetypes from previous TES games...
This suggestion is very lore friendly a lot more close to experience you could have in Oblivion...
Also if it is compared to Rift, everyone is like : yes, but this is ESO, but they keep forgetting the fact, that if it does work in other games, why it couldn't work in ESO, if it would be altered for it?

Also I'm sick of PvP players complaining about balance and the skills they want or they don't want - everyone knows, that what does matter in PvP nowadays is gear and ranks, balancing -(actually nerfing, which they always claim to be needed in classes they don't play, but they want to beat them) of skills leads to only one thing - boring PVE and broken classes... So I really wish ZOS would have fun first in their mind and then PvP balance - I'm not saying this in ultimate way, but I don't want to have ESO speciality - not just PvP making broken classes, but also in ESO: absence of funny classes completely...

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I don't know if you expected this to be elder scrolls 6 or what but this is a different game. A few of you log in to find that this isn't Skyrim online and you want to severely change the game which is fine the way it is. Calling for needs here and there And now to flip the game around to role play?

I love the group trials/dungeons and the Imperial city pvp. I don't do the RP that you enjoy and if they could add something for you to enjoy the game that didn't change what I enjoy that wouldnt bother me. But to ask for changes like this to suit your own play style is selfish and childish. Which is why I say go play oblivion if you want that.

the secret world has a classless system and it works pretty well, I'd love to see that here. forced classes are so 2005. we should get more free options in MMOs by now.
    I support the idea.

Not the first to bring up this idea and won't be the last. Bad ideas are never ending and often recycled.

But this is also one of the worst ideas ever as it would make the game so boring and vanilla. Ugh. Perish the thought just as this thread will perish.

    Current gameplay is different how?

Op, good idea. makes sense. I think that the devs were scared that the tiny player minds coiuldn't handle such choice.

Elder Scrolls was always fun when it was classless. I believe that this game also had no classes in early beta but they added them at some point during the betas.

Classless systems have worked well in other games and could work well here.

Unlikely to ever happen due to time/resources/tiny player minds

The Ability Wheel in The Secret World absolutely ROCKS!

Except that 90% of the wheel is utter garbage, about 8% of what remains is incredibly situational. TSW; or "how to sabotage your tank and wipe the run, because you built something you thought would work." I mean, we're literally talking about a game with abilities that do nothing except interfere with the tank's ability to deal with the boss. Pressure Points comes to mind as an immediate example. It's also plugged to the gills with abilities that are almost the same as each other but with one altered keyword.

I liked the idea that you'd have to tinker with your builds when you were dealing with each enemy using a different deck. The novelty of that wore off someplace in the Carpathians. The way TSW's difficulty works is just tedious, and easily solved if you actually target an enemy in the area you're entering and look at their immunities. At that point the game just becomes a tedious exercise in rebuilding your character every thirty minutes.

    :\

I didn't say it was perfect, but I disagree with your percentages of imperfection. I would agree that some of the abilities in TSW are less useful. But that "one altered keyword" can be pretty important for most of the synergies. Unlike real combat, in games one can fail miserably and keep playing. I enjoy MMOs where everything isn't an instant success.

And I like the trial and error methods when grouping and doing different scenarios. I have fond memories from old EQ, doing dungeons with only what most would consider a group of DPS classes. Most would consider tanking on a Barbarian Rogue a stupid, waste of time, but we had fun.

I am trying not to hijack the thread to speak of other games, though.

My biggest problem with the ESO classes that that they don't make sense to me. The three combinations of skill lines don't seem to match the classes. Like why is Siphoning a Nightblade skill? I would love to be able to pick and choose among the different skill lines.

An open-world MMO should give players as many options as possible. Sure, some will want "the perfect build" and they will be frustrated and struggle and argue. That's part of the fun. Me, I like building wonky characters and trying to make them work.

The point is that it would't be so different for players like you - if you would read the OP carefully - it would be actually better. That is the reason, why this idea is so brilliant, because it is not really classless system, it is only very flexible system, that would allow players, who like the builds as they are now, to continue with them, but also for devs to add more of "builds" for RP players, who are not happy with this system.

So your post feels a lot about - I like this game to be for PvP players, and I don't want RP players to be happy with this game, so I say, do not change anything. Because there would be no difference for you...

And I know players, who would like to play this game, but they will not because of this system - so with every player like you, who blocks any changes in this area, they are losing other players, who will not play this game because of this. That is the reason, why I'm making such posts - because I know, it would be so much better for this game.

I have the right word for it now - it would be subclass system - you would only lose the big names, the current subclasses would remain, and this suggested system would allow devs to add balanced new subclasses and easily combine them.

And if some players said, that some players would pick up the strong builds - well, they do it now too anyway, don't they? They min-max anything, so if you are an ordinary player, you don't have a chance anyway? And if PvP builds would be about it - to choose the right combanations of subclasses instead of skills now - is it really bad, or will it after this be a lot about builds? If you can do it too - is it OP? I don't know, I cannot imagine it really - I would have to see examples of such builds you are talking about. But an ultimate solution would be - special buils for PvP only - my wish.

But it would also allow RP players to choose their builds, which they cannot really now, or with anti RP features.

    EDIT:
Actually you wouldn't even lose the big names - but only there would be more of them, because every combination of 3 subclasses will have a new name, with the current combinations still present. That is the reason, why I can see it could be easily implemented and it could be that long desired solution for all kinds of players.

So you could get a stam nb that would swap syphoning (irrelevant for them) with say... Earthen heart? A stam nb with major mending, ability to convert magics to stam and battle roar with Incap? Ummm, no thanks.

Introducing new classes into the game would be difficult right now. WoW is cullrently selling lvl boosters becouse people are tired of grinding and new classes start at almost max lvl. I hope the class restrictions will be ditched in ESO one day.

    Ummmm, why not?

Is there software or hardware issue?

Or is it because the player base cannot deal with freedom to chose?

I can see that balancing more classes might mean more work for the Zenimax, but I've seen smaller companies handle the load just fine.

I think the most troubled by the idea of more options for classes are the min-maxxers because it would involve more thought than just stam or mag builds...

Adding more skill lines for each class would be a nice move. Just do as they did in gw2. The new skills are only available outside of world vs world or in this case, the alliance war.

No. I don't even pvp much. Like I said I love trials and dungeons. Block changes? You're suggesting a total *** revamp for no reason other than role play. I have characters of each class and enjoy them the way they are.

So what forget about the players who currently enjoy? It honestly sounds like some of you want an entirely different experience from this game and your idea is to gut this game. Go play something else.I think the classes are fine for the most parts and have their limitations.

While I respect the fact that you stick to your opinion and the fact that you have fun with classes being as they are, I find the argument of "you seem to want an entirely different game" to be somewhat aimed at a generalized idea you have of that part of the community supporting this idea.
The fact is, people support the idea because they would enjoy crafting their own build with less limitations, both because of the previous TES titles and because this is supposed to be an open world MMO. If they would like something to change it doesn't mean they dislike the game as it is now, nor it means that they are casual players who are committed to ESO. Change, whether you like it or not, is quintessential to many things - human beings included.

I wouldn't, honestly. It's good, yeah, but it somehow pigeonholes you into a healer. If you want to rely on your own healing abilities you can simply go for Restoration Staff on your back bar and pick another skill-line.
