Text based chat on Xbox feelings?

    I'm a fan of text coming to xbox and ps4 since I know some people with artillery ears and voice chat isn't always the easiest for them. Like others have said it really is something they should have done from the start, plus it should clear up a lot of the chaos you hear in towns.

    Using voice chat is still better than text especially during dungeon, trials and pvp

    Very happy about it coming to PS4 :3 I recently was diagnosed with chronic migraines so using a headset and mic is a big no-no :tongue:

    Your 3 examples are the only times it's better than text chat and even then it's not for everyone.

    It's another option that you can turn on or off as you see fit the same as voice chat. I use a mic in guild chat and will occasionally venture into area chat. I'll probably turn text chat on initially, I don't see myself typing much but you never know if you'll see any good deals etc unless you try. When I play at weekends during the day I don't use voice chat because my kids are around, and I won't use text chat those times either because they can read!

    You guys on console have no idea how much this will change the game for the better. One of the most annoying things about console is not having it.

    You PC players have no idea what the player base is like on console. All the shy people that hope this will allow them to communicate will be in for a rude awakening...and I do mean rude, be ready for insults when just asking for trades.

    This is the same system that kids "swat" people for being butthurt about losing.

    @Force-Siphon I can tell you, having moved to Xbox from PC, I can say, that text chat is definitely the biggest thing consoles has been missing. This closes the gap for me as far as fun goes. Sure, we don't have buff timers, but we also don't have Cheat Engine. @Rylana there's a lot less cheating over here on xbox, too.

    How does it work? Do I need to pay out more dosh to get a special keyboard to fit the PS4 or can you do this via the clumsy psn internal keyboard? Or even just plug in a random keyboard like for a pc? (not a techinal minded person)

    Do want this as options for communication on ps4 are either emotes that dont cover what I usually want to say or by leaving the game & messaging via psn. Will people be able to see text even if theirs not switched on?

    Would be good to have an emote that says 'join text chat/voice chat' like does for 'hello'.

    Any standard usb keyboard or bluetooth keyboard will work on ps4.
