Ever since ESO came out on consoles (possibly shortly before) we've had regular topics with dozens of people insisting the game needs text chat, they can't believe it's not in already, it's a core feature that any MMO needs and it doesn't matter if it's on consoles, voice-only doesn't work etc. etc.
Now you're getting it and it seems like all those people have disappeared and all we've got is people who are angry it's being added and planning to turn it off immediately and never, ever use it as some kind of protest.

probably due to the people who wanted it left. that or the whole having to go into start menu down to social to open a box that we can type in could be an issue that people didn't foresee happening. Thought it will be good for finding a group or trying to communicate with those without a mic.

I see a lot of people saying its stupid cause it doesn't help them, that's ignorant you need to look at these changes with a broader view and how it'll affect other players in the community.
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.
He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

I fear it's going to resemble other text chat experiences therefor I'll have it off eventually but I do believe those who seeking this for trading will benefit from it.
Now...if the activity finder is not going to be fixed then I guess I'll find myself using a LFG channel
Seems the daily benefits won't matter anymore
All in all tho, I have a chat pad for the Xbox one so if it's something you really want to do and have a good experience, I'd strongly suggest ordering the chat pad Xbox one brand (third party brands don't work well and require an additional USB slot)
Overall it's a very poor method of communication for consoles.
Voice is best and while others have differing opinions, it's good that those other groups have this method

I'd say there is a good chance those that advocated for it, don't play anymore, unfortunately. May have came a little too late. I msg a few old guildies who had quit about txt chat coming Tuesday, and they actually did start playing again. so hopefully it will help overall population.
