Should I "delete" her? A question about the main char vs alts.

    Its an MMORPG

The meta has changed, will change

I play for fun, which for me is much more fun than worrying about min-maxing.

I like my characters, and I like playing them, and I even like re-figuring out what to do when how things work gets adjusted

    I would NOT change her.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

You want something else that your character cannot provide.

I was NOT wanting to do that because of Min / Max reasons. I just like Khajiits better for looks and lore. However, Argonians are a close 2nd. I will not let numbers tell me how to play.

I've had this same question with my main, and in the end I didn't do it.
My main is a Breton sorc, and I already have two other Bretons, so I was contemplating to change one of them to Altmer. Sorc seemed a good fit for Altmer. I even tried it out on the PTS server. However, as soon as I had changed my main into an Altmer, I missed my old character, and hated the new one. Thankfully I had saved the creation sliders of my old character, and could recreate her on the PTS. :)

A more practicial reason is that the race change is indeed still bugged. And if your main is a crafter, and you do a name change, than all the previously crafted items will still have the name of your old character. I dunno, it seems like a bug minefield waiting to explode.

Yeah, I have seen that as well - and was astounded about it, because this means that this is not linked via a UUID, but by name - not like a professional would do it, but an amateur - and this from a gaming company. Well, maybe I am not doing an amateur a favor saying this, because most of them would not do it like that as well, i guess - this is just something to shake your head and facepalm.

keep her so my argonian can date her

I'm actually in a similar situation though. My Dragonknight and Nightblade are my lesser liked races; Dunmer and Nord. But I've just become so attached to them that it doesn't even matter now

A little about the character in question:
I do really love her and we had spent many good days (79 days according by the /played command). However, she is my 2nd favorite race -- Argonian. She is my crafter, she knows every crafting style (working on the new ones now with update 11), she knows all the traits, she did all the normal dungeons. She did EP and DC faction zones, all the DLCs expect Wrothgar but most of it. I spent some time leveling her PVP rank. She has a ton of skill points.

On some days, I ask myself if I should "delete" her and make my favorite race or not?

When I say "delete" I mean that I will use the barber shop tools to change her class, race, and name but I am able to keep all her skill points, what she knows about crafting, achievements, and titles. BUT it is STILL a delete in the sense that I will lose her name, her looks and her race. In way, I am still deleting her to a degree. I can never remake her looks again and I will lose her character's name. Sometimes, I want to play as a Khajiit. I do have Khajiit alts, but I am founding hard of not spreading myself out too thin. I would like to have one char that truly max out (in all the ways that I can) instead of having 12 alts who are weak. I like to have 1 strong char and 11 weaker alts.

If the reader is in my shoes, what would you do? How does one balance playing an alt vs focusing on a main char?

I went through the exact same thing with my first character. A Nord templar healer/crafter.

I race and name changed him and honestly i miss my original character. I did every single piece of content with him and as i said was the first character i made at launch. I kind of have no 'relationship' or attachmemt to the new one and it is almost like i completely lost the character i put so much work into and spent so much time on.

In saying that. I would race change again. It just feels like a loss and i will have to get used to the new guy like any other alt.

If what you are asking is to race/name change a character to make her more viable/to your playstyle's liking then yes.
Had an imperial templar since early access. Started as a tank but switched to healing ( cuz im a masochist :D ) went breton as soon as the race change was available because
imperials are 2nd fav race, bretons 1st.
Bretons are better suited for my playstyle

Edit: also im partially biased because i treat argonians as little more than slaves, evident by the fact that my 4 argonian characters have names saying what items they store because i need the extra inventory space

Or just use race change icon jot down or screenshot her appearance settings cancel outta race change make an alt that looks like her using the screen shots and then change the base character to something else this way you get someone new while giving new life to someone old.

Can you not just make a new khajiit character if you want to play as a khajiit?

The person wants to make his main character a Khajiit, so he can play as a cat lady while still keeping all of the character's skills, traits, ect. But he also doesn't want to lose the Argonian he's played with all that time.

I'd say keep her as is. You created her, spent all that time growing her, you made yourself a bond bud.

You can actually still save her in a sense, even if you change race/appearance/name.
Just buy race change token and extra char slot (if needed). When you're on race change screen, printscreen all the sliders before you change something. Change the char as you like and make a new one with exactly the same name and appearance you had on your old char. :)

I wanted to get rid of the stupid little thing I put on my Altmer main's forehead when I created her long ago, which I did. But for the cost of the appearance change, I figured I'd tweek a few more things just to get my money's worth. Although she looked good when I made my changes, they did not convert well when I entered the game and I disliked her new look more than the original. She was like a completely different person to me, so I decided I would just race change her into someone completely new, especially considering that I had accidentally chosen DC when setting her up instead of AD. (Lesson learned to do one final check on every single thing when setting up a new character before hitting the create button, even if you THINK you have everything right!)

I decided since she went through the DC leveling, I'd turn her into a Breton. She's cute whereas my Altmer was more of a tough lady. It was hard to get into her at first but then I realized I could actually use a bunch of the hairstyles and costumes that just did not look right on my Altmer. Now I'm having a ton of fun with her because I can actually change her hair and outfits around to suit my mood, which is a refreshing change. My poor Altmer, while I loved that tough lady except for the little thing on her forehead, was very boring with respect to what she could wear. She looked silly in the more feminine outfits and any gear and/or the couple costumes she could wear would always have to be dyed black/white/a couple other colors because she had red hair and some outfit colors clashed.

So that's my bizarre experience with changing my main. The adjustment period was a love/hate thing, which luckily for me ended up with me loving her because of something as silly as hair/outfits/colors. I miss my original now and then but I actually look forward to new costumes coming out now because she is much more flexible in that regard than the original.

I had a Bosmer nightblade in the 30's in the early phase of the game. I had this great idea though for an Argonian Nightblade 'Shadowscale' and I decided since I had only 8 spaces to start over. I really like my Shadowscale, but I also regret deleting that Bosmer. Looking back I would have preferred to delete one of my extra Sorcs. If anything I'd want a class change on one of those characters.
