Text based chat on Xbox feelings?

My feeling is that I hope I can disable it because I don't care to see all the stupidity popping up in the corner of my screen. I've seen what console MMO text chat looks like on DCUO and it's not what you hope it will be...picture the town area chat crap in word form.

    Forums are strange sometimes.

Ever since ESO came out on consoles (possibly shortly before) we've had regular topics with dozens of people insisting the game needs text chat, they can't believe it's not in already, it's a core feature that any MMO needs and it doesn't matter if it's on consoles, voice-only doesn't work etc. etc.

Now you're getting it and it seems like all those people have disappeared and all we've got is people who are angry it's being added and planning to turn it off immediately and never, ever use it as some kind of protest.

probably due to the people who wanted it left. that or the whole having to go into start menu down to social to open a box that we can type in could be an issue that people didn't foresee happening. Thought it will be good for finding a group or trying to communicate with those without a mic.

Doesn't matter. No top guild is taking you in a trial without it. Can't hear me or you then sorry... can't type and play on a console.

Looking forward to...wtb friends to run ICP and trade me scathing pieces for spider silk...

    @Danikat
The reality is that it was less than 100 ppl on Xbox one at the peak of the discussions.
I think one thread vote had over 200+ in some way or another in support of it, but many were on PC which lets say it was more folks on consoles voting. If you split those by ps4 and Xbox one, you'll notice it wasn't a lot of Xbox one folks overall on the forums.

I think ZOS actually understands the communication piece very well for consoles. The options are what many suggested were lacking. Voice chat only wasn't actually the issue. It was that ppl couldn't use group finder, some activity to find ppl, PvP finder, trading and guild traders as well as guild chat options.

Text chat was an outcry due to poor features overall.
It'll be interesting to see the impacts next week for sure tho cause PC seems to tell us that we are in for more game breaking bugs for social interactions so at least there is an option in times like these. ..... Or you just leave and play another game for a while.

You will see those same community members back if not now, next week tho with another poll.
Like how do you like text chat or ZOS should have added text chat long ago, etc.

I was very anti-text chat at first but as long as I can keep it toggled off it should be chill. If people can't or don't want to speak over voice chat it'll be nice that they can actually communicate with other players.

The upside of text is for things like ...

    ... where is the Zerg?
... who wants to buy my Ice Staff of blah blah.

It's vital to broadcast messages to hundreds of people at once. Otherwise voice chat is better in smaller groups.

Actually that was just on pts and that was NOT final at all. If you look at the article just released, there IS a chatbox right on the hud that can be opened via pressing enter on a connected keyboard OR pressing the map and menu button at the same time.

The hate of spam in txt chat I still don't understand have u heard area chat it's horrible. Txt chat will only be good for selling stuff or if ur in a dlc zone and not a lot of ppl on and u want to do a world boss u can ask the whole zone at once.

I think a lot of ppl that don't want it or won't use it are 1.play at peak hours and have a ton of ppl on to talk to 2 in a trade guild and afraid this will take profits away.

I play very early morning I work 3rd shift so guild has maybe one or two ppl in it finding ppl is going to be so much easier for us early morning players.

my hope is that with the text chat I am able to speak to my whole guild weather they are in gc 1 voice chat or not. this will make notifying my guild of events very easy due to a large number not using facebook. and being able to look for a specific person for a trial or dungeon easier is great. I see a lot of people saying its stupid cause it doesn't help them, that's ignorant you need to look at these changes with a broader view and how it'll affect other players in the community.

I want text chat (and chat bubbles) to do a little roleplay. I want it to communicate to guild mates when I feel that voice chat makes it awkward. And sometimes, I like to help rando's with questions.

I don't want text chat to see people spamming to sell things because they are too lazy and impatient to wait on the guild stores. I don't want to see people trying to scam others by linking on item, only trying to switch the item on purchase. And I don't want to see some shitbird telling everyone in Cyridiil about how they better listen to him because he's a no life and made emperor and knows better than everyone else where to go.

I do need to find groups better, however, for dungeons, bosses, Craglorn. I'm stuck playing solo and never finding a group in activity finder for ***. But I don't know if text chat will really solve that.

All in all, without the ability for me to filter chat out of my channel (turning off zone spam, for instance), I'm not sure how any of my wants, or needs, will be solved. It'll be too cluttered and unreadable, especially in busy zones after One Tamriel.

I'm happy with how they've chosen to input it. With it being 'off by default', less shitposters will feel that spamming zone chat sales like fucknuts will be viable.

A lot of people should be banned for what they say in voice chat. Difference is now I can take a screenshot and get said people banned.

Also unlike voice chat that can't really be moderated at all. Text chat at least filters out cuss words. Yes I know I can sort off get around the filters but, it's still better than hearing it said.

The only thing I don't like about what we are getting is the lack of separate trade and lfg channels.

As far as I understand from Neverwinter Online, reporting a player for bad language is handled through Microsoft (on Xbox), and actually seems to be handled faster than Cryptic does on PC.

-I'm not looking forward to this BUT, I'm willing to turn it on just to see how ppl use it.
I fear it's going to resemble other text chat experiences therefor I'll have it off eventually but I do believe those who seeking this for trading will benefit from it.

Now...if the activity finder is not going to be fixed then I guess I'll find myself using a LFG channel
Seems the daily benefits won't matter anymore

All in all tho, I have a chat pad for the Xbox one so if it's something you really want to do and have a good experience, I'd strongly suggest ordering the chat pad Xbox one brand (third party brands don't work well and require an additional USB slot)

Overall it's a very poor method of communication for consoles.
Voice is best and while others have differing opinions, it's good that those other groups have this method

I'm on PS4, but this pretty much sums it up for me. It also depends on how easily I can read small text on screen across the room. I probably won't use it, but it's cool for other people to have options.

I think this is a highlight to a lot of games, though. Players come in, find a billion things that aren't like other games, complain on forums, then move on. Because on the most basic level, the game isn't for them.

Meanwhile, if the change has any negative ramifications (and all changes do), the players who actually *like* the game are stuck with it.

Given enough time, games get ruined by these 'helpful suggestions that can't go wrong'. Because in the end the game still isn't enough like WoW to make the new gamers happy, but now it's even considered 'old' so fewer new gamers even pick it up, and it's too different from what it was for the original adopters to want to play it anymore.

I don't think text chat is like that. It will have plenty of bad issues, and will run off quite a few players due to bad experiences or loneliness or whatever, but *maybe* it'll pick up some that like to chat using a keyboard hooked to a console ... which as an xbox user who sits in his recliner on the other side of the living room, seems completely *** stupid.
