Maintenance for the week of December 22:
• NA megaservers for maintenance – December 22, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 8:00AM EST (13:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – December 22, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 8:00AM EST (13:00 UTC)

Move EU Maintenance time

    you guys still didnt understand?

ZOS fired the EU megaserver patch team like 3-4 month ago
and now only one team handle both servers
thats why time will be the same

If I had a nickel for every maintenance time thread on here, I'd become increasingly rich every week on a regular basis. Eventually I'd have enough to buy ZOS and make them do random maintenance for 15 minutes at different times with no notice, something I bet they all secretly wish they could do.

When we have regular maintenances, we bring both the North American and European megaservers offline at the same time and (generally) back up at the same time. Unfortunately, there is no one ideal time that doesn't impact someone, but we do our best in starting at 4am EDT.

At 4AM EDT it looks like it favors the US player base only. Why not make it so that both player bases sacrifice their playtime equally like making the maintenance at 0 AM EDT

That would mean the maintenance starts at 9pm for people playing on the West Coast.

There is ur first mistake, taking them down at the same time,
and the most ideal time is region/time based maintenance in the middle of the night sunday/monday.

Other MMORPG already did the research for you,
they actually can do maintenance on just one server instead of all...

No, that is worse. I would rather get the new content the same time as everyone else, rather than arbitrarily get it later during the night just because some people have their free time in the middle of the day on a Monday.

If i had to make a choice between getting a DLC at the same time on all regions or weekly region time based maintenance,
i would go for the adepted Weekly maintenance.

I know ZoS is bringing DLC out every other month these days,
there are still more scheduled/unscheduled/emergency-patch maintenance then that there are new DLC installs.

Perfect solution - make a tool to swap servers. I have this kind of tool in the CallCenter I manage.

Its rather costly solution but using proper VM management its perfectly achievable.

Running two mirror servers - Main and Backup. When the time comes the Backup server holds the game and players can play. At the same time you update the Main server. Then you swap them(first updating the state of Main server - players, transactions etc.) and update the Backup server.

From what I know it takes around 15 minutes to swap.

The tool I have can swap the servers on the fly :D (didn't do that because I prefer the safer way, but I realize that its the only possible way in your case).

    Think about it :)

A perfect solution, eh? How big is this server you have in your call center?

You do realize that it appears to take them 1 to 2 hours just to "Reboot the megaserver"? The megaserver is a pretty sizeable network of systems. That is a rather spendy proposition when you have to keep 6 backup megaservers around between patches, idling away playing Solitaire.

Heck, my fear is that they are cutting costs by slimming down the hardware to reduce the number of servers that make up the megaservers. The thought of them having hundreds of server systems sitting there doing nothing most of the time is inconceivable to me.

    Solitaire on a megaserver?

Unplayable. Just think of the lag!

    Indeed,
sounds like a decent time for me. (European),
cause it would mean the maintenance on my free Monday afternoon would be done a few hours earlier,
or are our Euro's less worth then those Dollars?

ZOS is not doing the best for customers you are doing the best for the company by saving money and find the best possible times for staff working in NA ...

So your decisions of maintenance hours have nothing todo with customers, I know it's not your fault but please don't justify the bad MMO management by ZOS.

Seriously, this is a professional business and ESO a product with international success.
Why would million of gamers/customers care if you need to make some staff members work at night?

The truth is saving budget -> customer service.

Even if ESO is a game and not a critical production system, don't you think in the year 2016 downtimes should be the problem of devs/publishers instead the problem for majority of your customers?

    @ZOS_GinaBruno
I hope you don't get me wrong, but professional efforts to satisfy expectation of international customer service quality looks different.

After a lot of complaining at launch because of simultaneous US/EU maintenance schedules, we eventually got EU friendly maintenance/patch times. Did they seriously scrap the EU maintenance team? I've been away from game for a few months so this is new to me.

The problem isn't the when, the problems always is the too long. 6-8-10 hours for a big patch will be always the problem, but if you want to play, you w8 :)

I met two games (same company first and second game :)), in which this was solved realy cool. There never had a maintenance, never a shutdown. You play, you got a server message, you must quit and start again.
    1. Quit
    2. download patch
    3. Play

You only w8 for the download. That an amazing solution. IMO that company would sell that know how (license) every mmo company would buy it.

I bet they would be earn more money with the know how, much more like now they earn with their game :)
Otherwise that company did the megaservers technology too. Why ZOS don't do no maintance thechnology? :)

That comany once answered in AUA, 2 server copy run at same time. The new patch servers, and the old ones (after 1 hour shut down). 1h ~ enough for finish quest, dungeon etc.

Challange day, ZOS com'on you can do too :)) We would happy and we buy that feature for 5k crown XD :)

Probably not, but the NA and EU servers appear to be linked and when NA is down, it caused problems with EU. Rather than fixing, which might have been expensive, they changed the times. That is my theory.

Its ok guys one afternoon of not playing ESO won't kill you.

This is actually a good thing for EU at least we get the new patch as soon as its released, blizzard releases Europe patch the day after so it can fit the EU time, so we have to wait another day of watching the US trying the patch before us.

I remember one time with LOTRO their servers were down for over 48 hours and that was just changing the payment process in the cash shop, lol. Suppose we should be grateful ZoS hasn't fallen to that level yet. Although we did get some compensation.

I'd like to hear this too.

However what I'd really like to hear is whether or not ZOS as a company is working towards anything better. We see games like WoW and such having patches pre-installed and release has zero downtime, just rolling restarts every week. What is the difference between ESO and WoW that means we are stuck with such an archaic and pretty awful patch system?

Are Zenimax moving towards a better system currently? Is anything being done to combat these issues that happen not only with every DLC but every single week? A lot of players are turned off by the common and irregular maintenance periods this game suffers from.
