Why haven't you done a dungeon yet?

I had a very strange experience a couple of nights ago, I met this guy in pvp who asked to join our group, and so I invited him, and he got killed and started freaking out about it, saying he was going to quit the game lol I don't know exactly what his problem was but I spent a while trying to calm him down a bit lol

My guild friends then decided that a few groups of us were going to do fungal grotto and have a race to see who finished first, and I asked him to join us thinking it might cheer him up a bit. He did pretty well considering it was his first time there, but he died twice, the first time he freaked out, f-ing and blinding about how bad the game is, and the second time he died he typed 'yawn' into chat and then logged off! So I think that the reason this guy does not do dungeons (or anything else) is because dying makes him angry lol

I go into dungeons which I can do on my own - in the early morning, when europeans are not up yet and americans are already in bed - so that I can experience a dungeon and not see just corpses in it. Otherwise I avoid all, where I have to group up, because I like to do things slow paced and this squirrel-like dungeoning (rushing it) is just stressing me out and is no fun to me. I play ESO to relax and enjoy the setting, I am not here to have stress (including drama) and rush things.

So, @Lysette.. I feel you. Sometimes, you just want to slow it up, read some stuff and talk to NPCs and take up the sights and sounds.. like in Hew's Bane. However, you must be talking about non-CP 160 level public dungeons. It's doable to solo public CP 160 level/delves, such as those ones in Wrothgar, if you're high enough CP, but it's a bit rougher and not so relaxing. However, you can't solo group dungeons/delves (even at normal level) or consider it to be relaxing when you have hords of mobs coming at you and bosses in the 1 mil plus health meter to tend with. Much of any dungeons don't have any pleasing scenery, to me, at least. Ever done the 12-man (or woman) trial, such as Sanctum or Maw of Lorkhaj where the bosses' health meter are from 6 mil upward to 25 mil, and their minions from 600k to a mil health meter? Not so relaxing. Lol!

No, I have just 12 low level characters and am a casual player with not that much time to play, so I advance very slowly. I spoke of normal public dungeons, where everyone is in at prime time and where it is hard to find any mob at all, because pretty much all are dead already - that is why I do those in the earling morning, when I have a chance to see some mobs.

Sounds much like it - I do not like dying as well, but when it happens, then it happens - and I would never go that far to put the blame on someone else - that someone did not die, but me - haha - some people will always try to put the blame on others.

As a savvy dung/trials guy, it has always been a fun Experiance when a guy in group says they have never done this dung before. Immediately the knowledgable players go into "no problem bro, we will walk you through it mode". There a good helpful players out there. Not just toxic ones. A pve guild is very helpful too btw.

Just wary of doing them for many of the reasons listed above but also as my nb is not an 'optimal' build but has lots of CP & I don't want people to think I am experienced when I don't have a clue.

Although did do non-vet City of Ash once almost by accident. Was skyshard hunting & saw people lurking outside who asked if I wanted to group. Said yes & then was off on a dizzy manic ride through CoA. Lord knows what we were doing, just seemed to be running around killing what we could, no real plan, no healer, no tank, no way to communicate (PS4) - all died at one point but just rezzed & got on with it. But we did it. And yes, it was fabulous fun.

So maybe the problem is I have now overthought the whole thing.... :|

But also that I am rather shy & so not good with voice chat. Sooooo looking forward to text chat on the PS4. :)

I keep seeing people say they've never done a dungeon, or only done one or two.

What keeps you out of dungeons? Is it the dungeon finder being glitchy? Players turn you off? Does PvP or roleplaying keep you busy?

The veteran dungeons and trials don't seem like much fun to be honest. The couple of experiences I had, everyone kept dying and blaming each other, and you waste a lot of gold on repairing your gear etc.

PVP is a lot more relaxing experience. I just log on at any time, play by myself and gank people on a bridge or something.

Personally I don't think anyone should do the vet stuff unless they are with friends.

I went in vet DSA for my first time the other day with 3 great friends, 4 1/2 hrs later, while on round 10, we had to give up. If they had a more experienced player than me they would have walked it. If they were a pug group, to be honest I could understand them getting angry with me as I did make most of the mistakes. But they found it funny as they know me well and we had a great laugh, and I cant wait to improve and try again.

What I will say is three things, I have been playing since beta (did have a break for a few months when loading screens and PvP lag got me down but have recently returned), I went through the 3 alliances solo and did all the solo dungeons, I have only done 2 or 3 of the group dungeons and only a couple of the pledges (non vet).

    1) Due to group size, we often had 5, 6,7 in the guild wanting to group up, hence I spent most of my time in Cyrodill else some were always left out. Then I got addicted to Cyrodiil and just spent months in there every night (still never mace it on the leader-board :) )

    2) The solo part of the game is generally so easy that it's very very hard to learn how to play to be good in a dungeon without being in one. I practised my sorc all week before doing vet DSA, but virtually all mobs were dead before even half way through my rotation hence the first time I got to practice my rotation was when I was actually inside DSA.

You can read great class guides guides such as Deltias gaming or Yolowizards, but being ibn DSA and seeing how well it works is not really the right place to try it, sure I could have done a few group dungeons first, but again unless your doing it with friends, others probably wont be patient while you learn to play.

    3) Unless you are prepared to use addons, you cant really tell how much damage you are doing. Even following Yolowizards guide, it wasn't until I installed "LUI Extended" and could see my damage, that I learnt how, why and when it's best to use certain skill combos etc.

I like dungeons, but I'm not motivated by doing them since I don't car for the rewards. Not that there are no good drops, but even the drop is better than what I have I have to choose between wearing an ugly drop or something of lesser quality, but that looks better. Basically I want to use items in the motfis I have acquired.

I personally don't really care much if I die or not, but this person seemed to take it to heart very much lol He wasn't even blaming others as such, he even complimented my healing once or twice in fact, it seemed like he just had a serious grudge against the game, and doesn't take part in much at all because he has a death phobia  My friends were all telling me to kick him out of our group because he was such a misery, but I kind of felt sorry for him a little bit, and thought that maybe he just needed some friends to help him enjoy the game a bit more and to make him feel happy, but he isn't going to make many friends with an attitude like that haha!

I find that if your doing one of the new dungeons for the first time many people want you to be on team speak to explain the fight or tactics, which is fair enough. I'm not on team speak and have no desire to be on it so that usually excludes me from even bothering doing the new ones.

    This is another interesting point.

When I ran DSA with my friends for the first time the other day, I was happy for them to tell me the mechanics (we all use Discord). After all, they had ran it many times and it was unfair of me to expect them to hang around while I tried things they knew didn't work, or I did things they knew would cause my death etc.

But some times it would be nice to have to work it all out for myself, having new DLC added and a guild etc requiring you to read up on it before they try it, kind of takes something away from it in my opinion. I used to get this a lot when I raided on Lotro

As for teamspeak/discord etc, I can understand people being wary of it, but most people/guilds only require you to listen, not talk, which saves everyone time as it's far easier to speak than type a paragraph explaining how your going to attempt something. I have also seen a few times people that gave in and tried teamspeak, pleasantly surprised at how mature the guild was, how many women there were talking, and soon joined in and wished they had done so years ago.

My main eso guild has people from all over the EU, it's great hearing all the different accents

Well...that and not being a mic users, kind of makes it hard to communicate. Why are we all standing around? Should I be doing something specific? Maybe I'll just take a shot at that thing over there and see what...oh. Oh dear. That was not good. Not good at all.

Once upon a time I would do them before moving on to the next zone. I wouldn't leave until I had discovered everything and everything was all white.

Then I moved into Caldwell's Silver. It's a lot harder to find groups in CS just hanging around the front of the dungeon. The group finder was useless as it would either not find anyone, or end up just throwing me in a group with people who were looking to do a whole different dungeon, even though we had all said what dungeon we wanted to do.

The guild I am in spend more time PVPing and in Craglorn, so it's hard to find people to come back and so these dungeons with me.

Eventually, all these circumstances beat me down, and now I just don't bother.

If there's something specific you need to know (rarely) then someone with a mic will let you know or otherwise message you.

I'm wondering if the group finder should add a "jack of all trade" option for people like me. I'd gladly do dungeons with 3 other hybrids, and we'd now before hand what we are going into.

I like this idea - it is more like playing together without to agree on certain roles where everyone just does his/her best. In a way, like when I am in a dungeon on my own and I see someone struggling, I support him/her - or like it happened yesterday to me, I ran into an enemy which was clearly too powerful for me and another player just stepped in and helped me out.

Actually we should tag @ZOS_GinaBruno because this is a very good idea which would make people like us want to try group play.

It actually might make grouping easier and faster.

My laptop is crap, I did dungeons when my PC was working but it blew up (not literally) and I just haven't bothered buying a new one. So running at 18fps normally I drop to about 10fps when in group play, that makes me a complete liability and even the most patient and understanding guild mates would get sick of me not carrying my weight.

This has been about the gist of the last year for me. When I manage to buy a new PC I'll start running dungeons again.

Group Finder fails are the exact reason other games don't require typical tank, 2 dps, healer combinations.

They need to change the whole dynamic of how dungeons work. I'm tired of tanking and want to go dps but group finder just doesn't happen if I try that. Granted, I have most of the monster sets, but not all in favourable traits.

I'm just tired of group finder not working, or taking too long. Yes, I am in 5 guilds, but hardly anyone is ever interested in doing them, or has done them for the day already.

It's off-putting and I've been playing other games as they're just a whole lot easier to just get in and queue for something, instead of sitting around for an hour trying to get a group in ESO.

I do dungeons to get monster helms, rare gear( Agility/Endurance/willpower rings) and gold. While, I have seen others enjoy doing dungeons after dungeons( don't know why? ).

I spent most of the time doing PvP, because its fun and full of action. :)

Edit: You guys will not require group finder, Once "1 tamriel" is released. Just type in zone chat for LFG pledges, and your good to go.

I'm not using dungeon finder, I just don't enjoy playing with random people. There's usually no talking, sometimes unpleasant people and there is no sense of collective accomplishment once it's done.
However, since I found a good, friendly guild to play with, I really enjoy dungeons.

Unfortunately, alot of the people I've seen playing the game can be rather toxic. If I go to say, Mournhold just to do some crafting, the level of general zone talk is... wow. It isn't encouraging to new players (or old players returning to this game after a long hiatus) to seek out others to play the group content with.

Ironically I've had the best encounters when I went to explore a group dungeon on my own, and in spite of my foolishness, ran into a lone player rampaging through the dungeon who allowed me to tag along. Nice people, those two that I ran into in separate instances. It just seems difficult finding nice, normal, non-abusive people to play with? Maybe the EU servers are different but the atmosphere on the NA servers leaves alot to be desired.

The group finder is practically broken and I don't like having to rely on terrible players. Case in point: When I first did Unbanished Cells as a complete noob at around level 22 or so it was with a group of CP300+ players and the dungeon was upscaled to CP160 or some such. They were all terrible. Most of them died repeatedly - all except the tank, usually. But not me. I was always the last one alive. In fact, I solo'd two of the bosses. Alone. Bad players, man. I just hate having to rely on bad players.

I've also never really been a fan of raiding/dungeons on any game. Groups also seem to want people that are CP160+ to CP510+ and I'm not there yet. My main is CP85-ish and I don't like the idea of doing the enemy faction campaigns on her so I'm doing an entirely new character through the game before my CP will rise further. That one's about 44-ish.

Once I've created and leveled all the characters that I want I may begrudgingly start doing some dungeons but I've never really been a fan of them. Finding a group takes forever, the dungeon takes forever, and it's generally not worth the time/effort. Definitely not my personal idea of fun and I play the game to have fun.

To do that though I'd want a dungeon guild so I don't have to frustrate myself with randoms and queue times. Unfortunately, this game has no auction house system which forces me into trading guilds. I'd like to have a dungeon guild and a PvP guild but as reality has it... my trading guilds are necessary. I've made my own trading guild at this point and we're at around 370+ members now. Hopefully within a few months it will be good enough that I can drop one of my trading guilds and replace it with either a PvP or Dungeon guild.

When the game was first out, I did plenty of dungeons with guildies. We were all on the same footing, trying out the dungeons, listening to the (sometimes German even though we use the English client) NPC's, and figuring out stuff together.

All those first guildies have left, the guild no longer exists, and the few remaining joined a new guild. Their skill was higher than what I was used to, and my first trial with them was all rush and no finesse (plus in my rush I fell down and had to run back, making the group wait for me, how embarrassing). No idea what was going on, despite being on TS, and almost 2 years later I still don't know what the story is behind AA.

They all join PTS when it comes out, have done all the new dungeons loads of times by the time its on live. After work, by the time I log on, people are already asking for members by linking achievements. I just feel old and tired by all this rushing around.

I'll just continue farming a bit on my own.

As soon as I bring my gear up to champion 40 level I will be heading back to veteran dungeons. My first couple of encounters led to a group disbanding because of me and that one night where if anyone dc'd of left the group you couldn't promote someone to group leader or find people in the queue.

I think the really big things that will always make people shy from traditional mmo dungeons is that the queue time for DPS is atrocious but people either don't have the gear or the knowledge to move up to tank/healer and they fear for the rest of the group backlashing at them. Which is both true and not. At least in this game there is good self healing skills so people can and should help out the newbie healers by healing themselves and should help out the tank by allowing them to establish aggro first.

Some of the most fun experiences I've had this game involved using the group finder tool, then ending up in vICP with 2+ people that never tried it before.
As long as someone is learning from their mistakes, and doesn't throw a tantrum when I try to give them pointers, I don't care if it takes 40 minutes, or 4 hours to complete.

But I can understand why one would be hesitant to start doing this sort of content when they feel ill prepared, or have had bad experiences before. Best advice would be to join a nice (PvE) guild, befriend the people that are kind and willing to help out, and ignore the toxic ones.

    Well I run a run a guild and here's what I hear:
    • Afraid of dying, or unable to save group members from death.
    • New to the game, busy solo questing and only needs help with certain world bosses or dolmens.
    • New to the game and low level - sees guildchat nerd rage from veteran players about pugged runs, thinks it's applicable for them - while the rage was about cp501+ players that underperformed far into Oblivion in vet pledges. The veterans in my guild don't care about a level 12 players contribution to grouping really xD we do random normals and silver pledges, or sometimes just group up with them when they ask around for a dungeon.
    • Long term pvp player but 0 confidence in pve, so have to level up all survival skills before they dare enter a group dungeon.
    • Nobody they are kicked from pugged groups for low performance and contribution to the team. (most are saved with a few carry&training-runs, a little help with gearing and information about their role/class/build, but those who refuse any improvements on their own part can not be saved.)

I used to be the worst player in the guild that I am now running. The previous guildmaster tought me a lot of things about group content before he gave me leadership and quit ESO. I was so scared of group content, because I was a healer and aware of how bad I performed. Templar healer in 7/7 heavy armor + bow, vampire and no set gear.

I was still dragged around in dungeons because I was the only healer in my guilds.... I felt bad about my performance and I felt bad for refusing to join lol When I finished Cadwells silver & gold, I finally relaxed a bit, got some set armor and dedicated myself to group content.

    2) I prefer characters without class skills (just using weapon skills), which leads to my characters being somewhat weaker
    3) I refuse to use VoIP of any kind
    4) I simply can't react fast enough due to being disabled
    5) I prefer to play at my own pace instead of rushing through a dungeon
