About half of my ladies are cross-faction. I'll give the "long story short" versions...

Argonian little-old-lady healer in Daggerfall Covenant: This old lizard has... a past. Home village in Black Marsh torn apart by slavers, ensuing slavery, rebellion and escape, years spent helping lead a pirate crew along the eastern coast of Morrowind, meddling in daedric magic... Eventually, she saw the error of her ways and reformed. She rekindled some old healing arts to help wherever she could and, when Akavir invaded, helped refugees. Her past has little ways of catching up with her, though, so she fled to get a fresh start... and the farther from elves, the better.

Bosmer archer in Daggerfall Covenant: Born in Valenwood as the daughter of an expert bowyer, she was taught the ways of both shooting and crafting at his knee. Core among his lessons, of course, was the Green Pact, wherein he stressed that they must never take from the living plants of the forest. However, due to a succession of events involving a daedric cult in the area, she broke the Green Pact by cutting down a sapling so her father could make an enchanted bow. The forest demanded repayment, leading to her father sacrificing himself to save her. She couldn't stand to stay in Valenwood after that, and ran north as far and fast as she could to escape the guilt. She's had a wary respect of nature spirits ever since.

Altmer pyromancer in Ebonheart Pact: As the ward of a magister, she spent most of her long altmer childhood in the library of the local Mages Guild, reading up on all the wonders of the world outside the Isles. She was most taken with volcanos, fascinated by their majesty, their power, and their destructiveness. She had always wanted to go to a place full of volcanic activity to study how they worked, and, finally, she got her chance to travel to the literal other side of the continent to Morrowind, and gave up all connections back home to do so.

Breton teenage thief in Aldmeri Dominion: The spoiled daughter of Breton nobility, she ran away from home to seek adventure (and indulge her klepto tendencies away from stifling parental restrictions). And hey, if she finds herself doing this in a gorgeous, sunny paradise, all the better!

My decisions are based on RP rather than mechanics, but the end result in the same. Even if they're a bit strange, they're fun to play :)

This is, in my own opinion, the best way to play any TES game. :)
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

    fun little excercise...I'll play!

Breton Nightblade - essentially my main. Chose to be Daggerfall Covenant (I have the Imperial edition but chose for him to stay in his native faction) primarily because the Altmer and their Dominion left such a tremendously bad taste in my mouth from Skyrim that I was ready to hate them 200 years into the past. Dabbled with the idea of Pact for him (I still have a fondness for Morrowind, my first ES game), but, quite frankly, with the Tribunal in full bloom and the slavery thing just barely not a thing, decided EP wasn't quite for me.

Then, I played through most of the DC storyline - perfect, straight up fantasy fare. I'm a heroic wanderer aiding a mostly benevolent king against necromantic cultists and general evil. Plus, DC has not one but two satisfyingly deserty zones, which are my 2nd favorite fantasy environ (gigantic, expansive underground dungeon-cities like Moria being my first favorite) - so, DC became my *favorite* faction, primarily for those reasons.

Imperial Templar (for stat reasons) and Breton Sorceress (discovery that bretons made far better sorcs than NB's) all basically made DC for above reason - for story reasons, the Templar is my Paladin template, and wants to crusade for good against obvious evil, and DC is one place to do that where occasionally deserts will be involved. Breton Sorceress is a tad more spooky power seeking driven woman, but also generally a *good guy*, and I like the DC space for being a traditional *good guy*.

Now, my Dragon Knight Argonian is duplicated - he started out as EP, which was important BECAUSE he had originally been enslaved, and was now free, choosing to right whatever wrongs he could in the midst of the ones that, at least culturally, would have enslaved him. I liked the contrast - duplicated him in DC, because DC had become my chief faction and I wanted one character of each type there.

Curiously, my Dunmer Sorc (my crafting mule) is actually EP, but doesn't consider himself so. That's just where he is right now. He has no loyalty, and is mostly a classic power hungry knowledge-seeking-to-the-point-of-dangerous-obsession mage. He's also generally a jerk. He's my *bad guy* - not strictly evil, but with no particular sense of righteousness - just does whatever he feels would be most satisfying to himself - he's my chance to choose all the quest choices that seem harsh or self-aggrandizing (guess who's going to be sacrificing whatsernuts to Sheogorath for power? :) )

Then, I have my two leftovers - Khajit NB in the Aldmeri Dominion - again, since I detest the general concept of the Aldmeri dominion in general (thanks Skyrim) he's another character that isn't particularly devoted to the alliance region he's actually living in. He's an adventuring cook. That's my goal with him. He runs out, aids the High Queen of the Aldmeri Dominion, foils regicidal conspiracies and battles interdimensional evil, all in the name of gaining enough power, influence, and mats, to become a master chef. He strikes me as being quintessentially Khajit - fun, a little batty, and more interested in his personal hobbies than the huge, overarching morality of the world around him.

Then, for fun, I created classic stick-up-her-ass Aldmeri Dominion Altmer Dragonknight. She's totally ready to become a Thalmor enforcer - she's mildly racist (ESO-wise), superior, agressive, condescending - I hate her already. I haven't even played her except to lock down her name - she's still sitting in the prison cell. I built her to be exactly the kind of person I can hate, but just barely toe the line of tolerability for gameplay - I guess I really just wanted to play once through from the perspective of my personal complete opposite.

Think that's all of them so far - thanks for asking - time for some food...

I guess, it does not have any lore-reasons, why I have mostly immigrants as characters - I lived for a year in London, being one among a million immigrants there - now I live since a couple of years in south africa as a permanent resident, what makes me again an immigrant. I myself see me as a world citizen and so do my characters in Tamriel as well. It is something I always liked with TES games, their cultural and racial variety, where immigrants are common and not the exception.

My rp toon basically goes like this....

He is an Imperial from Anvil (shot in the dark when I made him and lucked out with the Gold Coast being added). Anyway he was part of the Legion, for Red Diamond and Empire and all that. Anyway he watched things going down hill and thats all fine and good. But then they started raising undead legions and monsters in the sewers and vampires all over the plave and finally he was like.....

    I8kq0uJ.gif

He resigned his commission and after some thinking, he came to the conclusion that a nation of snow and drunken Nords between him and the nonsense in Cyrodiil was not a bad idea.

I wouldn't even pick a faction if I could , I don't agree with their ideals, goals and leaders and many of them are bad company.
DC , AD or EP have nothing to be proud of.

It's the guild focus that made TES and ESO interesting for me.
Since IC I would love to be a member of Drake of Blades and it's obvious that there are connections to Dragonguards.

Any game that only offers 2 choices like light/dark or imperial/republic in Star Wars is waste of gaming potential.
Games must provide more personal development and identity with help of clans and guilds and Star Wars always *** this up. You cannot play a neutral faction , Mandalorians or join any gang in Nar Shadda etc..

I don't like MMOs without possibilities to join clans or guilds.

My race doesn't matter my guilds objectives are.

What lore reason did you give your character for being in your current faction?

Does your character still have your races beliefs? Khajiit believing in jone n jode while in ep, dc, etc

    Mercenary?

    Raised there?

A lot of my characters are not native to the faction I'm in. With the exception of the Khajiit DK I have. He was separated from his family who owned a plantation in Hammerfell mountains when he was pulled into ColdHarbour. His family was neutral towards the war. And he is on a quest to return home to them.

My Argonian NB, has amnesia. He fell from ColdHarbour and was critically injured when he washed ashore onto Khenarthi's Roost. A travelling Khajiti merchant and his wife took him in and nursed him back to health. In the short few months he spent with his adoptive family, the husband and wife were viciously murdered by two assassins from the Covenant and Pact. So he joined the Aldmeri alliance to take his revenge on the Pact and Covenant for what they did to his adoptive family.

My Dunmer Socerer couldn't really get behind following The Three. She left her unknown house in Morrowind to seek out treasure and adventure else were in the world. Getting into ColdHarbour, for her, was the perfect escape plan.

My Redguard NB use to live as a street rat in Stros M'kai. Stealing and profiting off of the luxurious Covenant merchant ships that would take pit stops to the island. As a man with no family to call his own, he was scooped up into Coldharbour on a fate full night and wound up on the shores of Auridon where he continued his day-to-day operations of being a scumbag. 1.0

My Argonian Templar, is a wondering priestly figure who travels the world in the purist to help those who need mental and physical healing.

Your story. Is so awesome. Made my day :)

All of my characters are in different factions, most have race/class combos that are nonstandard as well. I like to play odd balls in TES games.

Argonian wizard in DC (nightblade). He's not terribly factional, and just happened to be studying in High Rock. Given his specialization in ice magic and interest in the Dwemer, he has a lot of reason to return to the Pact, but is skeptical it will last and doesn't want to be around when it collapses.

Argonian archer in AD (templar). She's an active supporter, and traveled here because they appeared to be treating the Khajiit well, but also to investigate how true this was. As a worshiper of Mephala she has an active interest in learning about all three political groups.

Orc battlemage in EP (sorcerer). He's a native of the Sheogorad region. Assisting the Pact is really just a means to gain prestige. If he can prove the worth of his people to the Pact that's valuable, but doubts this will happen and knows they'll persevere either way. He does enjoy working with Nords, whom he admires even though he and his people have often competed against them.

Nord spellsword in AD (templar). A devotee of sun magic, he headed to more tropical climes - and also to learn from the Altmer. I actually haven't played this character much.

Altmer warrior in EP (nightblade). While largely apolitical, she is a supporter of unity, particularly among elves. She's my newest character and hasn't done much yet.

Thank you @ZOS_AlanG for Sharing. Very interesting. Very nice read. Thank you.

My main character is an Altmer, but I will swich her to Redguard in August, because of the racial passives. I play stam DK, but I did not know at the beginning, that Altmers are mag race, but I love the way she looks :).

The story behind it, she sat near the fire one evening, when Meridia spoke to her, to explore all lands of Tamriel, all hearts of Men and Mer, so she went off to her journey of exploration and adventure.

I mostly play three khajiits, siblings, traveling the world.

One, my woodworker templar, goes after masters of his craft, finds himself in Stormhaven and gets involved with dealings of king Emeric.

The other is magically talented one, and stars her journey in Shad Astula, in Deshaan. She continues her travel, usually following the request of archmage, and also enters Cyrodiil while seeking greater power.

Contrary to popular belief, many of us here do play and love the game :) I strictly play the Nord race across many points in the Elder Scrolls timeline, but I do have a Nord stationed in each alliance.

Nord Stamblade, a Shadow Knight, in the Daggerfall Covenant.
Nord Stamplar, a Paladin, in the Aldmeri Dominion.
Nord Stamknight, Venom Knight, in the Ebonheart Pact.

All of which being tank builds, stamina based in the heaviest of armor with a sword and shield on main bar as it's always been my favorite role to play, but a two-handed axe on the back bar for the berserker moments in PvP. Thankfully with the recent update all have been bumped up to CP411, as I was slacking on leveling the alts beforehand.

Rohais (AD Breton) has not-so-distant relations that are full-blooded mer of Summerset. The Altmer side of the family decided that it reflected poorly on their bloodline to have members of it in the other alliances, even if they were mongrel members, and so invited the Breton portion of the family to come to Summerset.

Away-From-Keyboard (DC Argonian) is an ex-slave who worked for the Hlaalu minding the keys for their brothel and other buildings; he doesn't trust those Dunmer slavemasters at all, and distrusts other mer only slightly less, so he bailed on the Pact at the earliest opportunity and went to Covenant lands where he exists as a very junior agent for the Blade-precursor Dragonguard.

Khayrat al-Cheydinhal (EP Redguard) is a priest of the Eight, who travels around Pact territories preaching to the heathens who follow the Tribunal and spreading the doctrine of the Eight.

Ive posted portions of this in other areas before. But Ive recently completed the short backstories for the remaining four characters.

Korith Eaglecry (EP) - is a gold loving mercenary captain in a company of sellswords. Raised in the lowlands of Whiterun as a commoner, Korith was never satisfied with the idea of farming the land his father worked so that some fat noble and lording jarl could take the kingshare of his efforts. Korith felt a Nord should do as the Nords have always done. Drink copious amounts of meade, bed bar wenches, fight and kill, conquer and cut out an empire of their own, chase treasure and die long before you get so old you could no longer hold a sword and shield. So when Korith was old enough he set out on his own. Eventually falling in with a sellsword company that was recruiting for a new contract they had won. He would go on to fight in numerous conflicts including King Ransers War in 2E 566 at the young age of 16. He can often be found drunk in a tavern or in the bed of women of ill repute. Oddly enough Korith styles himself some sort of knight. Though he shows little in the way of honor and dignity one might expect of a knight. He fights dirty and to no ones knowledge ever even attempted to save a damsel in distress. With all of this said, Korith now 32 as of 2E 582 has climbed the ranks of the company to become one of its captains. Distinguishing himself as one of the toughest members of the company with no one questioning his bravery and ferocity.

Enrerion Aedhile (EP) - is a long standing member of the same company of sellswords. Over 200 years old he is one of the oldest members of the company and serves as one of the companys many mages. A highborne Altmer who once participated in the early years of the Mages Guilds expansion across Tamriel. Enrerion doesnt speak much of what lead him to the company but what is known is that he has a taste for the finer things in life. Things a typical Mages Guild member would not be able to afford otherwise. Rumors from sources within the Mages Guild claim Enrerion was guilty of selling blacklisted potions, enchantments, ancient artifacts that somehow never made it onto Mages Guild ledgers and magical knowledge to anyone that was willing to pay the exuberant price. And that he was known to overcharge for the actual services the Mages Guild did provide. Only to skim off the top and list the sale in ledgers as much less. For all the rumors Enrerion is especially gifted with magic. He's known to be one of the more powerful members of the company and is regularly approached to handle such matters that may arise dealing with magic.

Laerinel Rhaev(EP) - has been a wandering thief and at times assassin. She was picked up by Koriths sellsword company during a visit to Eastmarch. She had been betrayed by one of her handlers during a contract to assasinate Thane Jeggi and was in the cells awaiting her beheading. The sellsword company had just entered into negotiations for a contract to enter Cyrodiil under the Ebonheart Pacts Banner when Gallisten, another captain in the company, acquired her release. She would have to serve as a scout and assassin for the company or face the executioner. This was back in 2E 580 when the Three Banners War was just beginning. At first Laerinel was reluctant to work for the company but eventually warmed up to the idea when she realized how much she could make as a sellsword during a time of war. For all the gold and treasures shes secured over the years with the company Laerinel still falls back into her old ways often enough that Korith has threatened to behead her himself. Shes no longer allowed to accompany company leaders to secure contracts as shes been caught pickpocketing and even at least once known to have collected on an assassination contract while on company business. Both Gallisten and Korith now keep a close eye on her out of fear she may stir up trouble for them with potential employers. Going as far as randomly tossing her belongings after discovering the possible use of skooma with a Khajiit that went by the name of Powdered Paws. While Laerinel can be known as the typical Bosmer troublemaker amongst her fellow sellswords. Shes one of the best scouts and archers in the company. And often leads scouting parties and has on occasion been tasked with the assassination of enemy leaders.

Caius Berilius (EP) - was once a battlemage with the Imperial Legion before being framed by a fellow battlemage by the name of Idareth. Idareth was a son of one of the nobleman in Cyrodiil and had up to that point failed to make much of himself that his birth right and privilege hadnt already gained him. He saw Caius as a threat and once they found themselves competing for the same promotion. Idareth set out to frame Caius for necromancy and Daedra worship (this is prior to the rule of Emperor Leovic and the legalization of Daedra worship in Cyrodiil). Caius was quickly expelled from the Legion and cast out of Cyrodiil. He would eventually fall in with pirates before a battle with Maomer scarred him for life and left him for dead on a beach in Elsweyr. His burned and broken body would be taken to some monks at a monastery belonging to Mara. After long reflection and soul searching while recovering from his wounds he came to the decision to put his gift of magic to good use as a healer. Caius would spend the next 10 years studying and praying to Mara at the monastery. But he never felt comfortable there and he would eventually leave the monastery to roam Cyrodiil during the early months of the Three Banners War healing any fallen soldier he came upon. At some point he came upon Gallisten who was severely injured and left for dead. After patching Gallisten up enough for travel. Caius accompanied Gallisten back to the companys campsite just outside of the Northern Morrowind Gate. Caius would remain on with the company as a healer and cook. Often joining Korith and Laerinel on scouting missions. Out of all of the sellswords Caius seems the most out of place amongst the ex criminals, brigands and treasure chasers. His biggest vice would be drinking but he still cant hold a candle to Koriths alcoholism. If there is any skeletons in this mans closet. Its the things that he did while pirating. All of which he has left behind except in his nightmares.

Tenarei Rhaev (AD) - is a recent recruit to the company and the cousin of Laerinel. A Tree Witch back in Malabal Tor, Tenarei grew up in the wild. While she wasnt outwardly shunned by her own clan most of her time was spent alone with the Green as she preferred it over contact with others. She would eventually discover her affinity for magic and begin studying anything she could get her hands on regarding the subject. She spent countless hours honing her abilities through trial and error. To finance her self teaching and search for new books and resources she began healing minor ailments and injuries. Quickly becoming known amongst her clan as the Tree Witch of Valeguard. But things would change for her when the Aldmeri Dominion began arriving in larger numbers in Velyn Harbor. Quiet rumors of Tenarei using dark magic practices that once kept the local Bosmer entertained quickly became a concern for local Thalmor Officials. Tenarei left Malabal Tor and sought out her cousin after Fists of the Thalmor began hunting her for supposed crimes against the Eight. Tenarei had long known of Laerinels exploits with the sellsword company and decided to seek her out. After months of travel aboard ship and caravans Tenarei would finally run into Laerinel and the company in the Rift. There Gallisten would sign her on as a hedge mage and placed her with Korith as one of his scouts. In the short time that Tenarei has been with the company shes proven herself to be a talented archer and scout. Shes still quite green when it comes to fighting but has shown great promise with her use of offensive magicka and restoration.

Dazsh Ro Khar (AD) - the aging mercenary and healer has been with the company longer then both Gallisten and Korith. Dazsh has never shown an interest in leadership but has on occasion lead the company in the midst of some of the fiercest battles the company has ever been part of. Due to the fact that no one currently leading or participating in the company has been around longer then Dazsh. Little is known of where he comes from or his full story. When pressed for details he can often be secretive and misleading. Telling one person a story that almost always contradicts what hes told another. And when hes not out scouting or fighting he spends the majority of his time amongst other Khajiit in the company. The few times hes been in taverns with Korith and others hes quickly been kicked out under suspicions of being a thief and skooma peddler. Though no ones ever seen him with stolen goods or skooma within the company. He is often quite misleading as to what the exact details were that lead to him being removed from these taverns and his Khajiiti companions have a known history of skooma use and thievery. For all the mystery surrounding Dazsh what is known about him is his bravery and fearlessness in the face of great danger.

Aban Shahid Bakr (DC) - the historian and mage is also a former member of the Mages Guild. While he is no where near as powerful a mage as Enrerion, he is probably far more knowledgeable about magic then most of the mages within the company. Aban has struggled to adapt to the lifestyle of a sellsword and has spent most of his time acting as a company historian and clerk rather than actually doing any fighting. Typically he remains behind to tend to the camp when the company marches out to meet the enemy. And while generally regarded as a coward among some more loose lipped members of the company Aban has come to gain the respect of Gallisten, Korith and the other company captains through his invaluable knowledge of magic and the history of many of the locations the company visits. Most of his time has been spent reading and memorizing books on magic and the histories of Tamriel. He can be quite skittish around blood and has been known to cower when fighting has broke out. Hes rightly earned the nickname the Book Mage as hes been rarely seen using magic and rumors abound among some that he has no actual affinity for it. Coward or not, he has proven himself to the company through his ability to advise the captains on everything from magical artifacts, drawing up binding contracts and his salesmanship to potential employers. Gallisten is said to never approach a future employer without the Book Mage in tow.

Kheshna gra-Traghar (DC) - the Black Orc is the companys Quartermaster. Her nickname was given to her because of her black armor and rumored black heart. She is quite hot headed and has been known to start brawls with other members of the company for no other reason than shes in a fighting mood. They often put her on the leading edge of attacks because of her ferocity in battle. Keshna is one of the most dangerous members of the company and has killed atleast three active members. The first one was dismissed as self defense when it came to light he had entered her tent in a drunken stupor. The second and third kills were much more ambiguous or outright questionable. But Korith has been known to stand up for her and at times refuse to let the others remove her from the company. Its rumored that they are lovers but its advisable not to bring this up to Korith especially when he is drunk. As one might end up with a tankard to the side of the head. And no one is brave or dumb enough to say such things in front of Keshna when she has been known to have killed men for less. While Keshna might seem as if shes a raging mammoth in Orc skin. She is not always as unapproachable as many might lead newcomers to believe. Shes the daughter of a deposed Chieftain and exile from her own clan. Raised in the shadow of the once ruins of Orsinium. Her father, though an outcast by the time of her arrival, showed her little love, was often abusive and treated her as if she wasnt worthy of the Traghar name...as if the name had any worth anyway. Before her 13th birthday the Orc that had exiled her father showed up in her encampment. Her father hadnt actually been exiled but fearing death at the hands of his challenger had somehow slipped away after being severely injured. The man that had often claimed to have been betrayed and had his clan stolen from him by cowards turned out to be the true coward. She watched her miserable father die that day only to be spared by her fathers killer if she left Wrothgar forever. Giving her a days head start he chased her mercilessly for five days and four nights before she reached the border of Stormhaven. With the roar of bear mounts and Orc berserker screams behind her she was nearly cut down by the Breton guards in front of her only to be saved by a knight that just so happened to have been inspecting the embattlements at that particular border crossing. From the arms of the knight with eyes full of tears and rage Kheshna swore to never be so weak again and live a life of bravery her father could never muster.

Gallisten Bondurant (DC) - is a member of a disgraced Rivenspire noble family. His family once held
substantial holdings throughout Rivenspire and maintained a small Trading Fleet. But the family had a long standing feud with another noble family that were in direct competition with the Bondurants. For many generations the squabbling and fighting stayed between the two families and for the most part the King of Rivenspire and the other noble families tolerated it. But at some point the fighting grew out of control and spilled over into other noble families holdings. Soon enough the fighting grew into a small war with other noble families joining the frey in an attempt to seek vengeance for their own losses. Eventually the King and the Shornhelm guard would come down on both sides utterly destroying their fighting forces. The Bondurants were exiled from Rivenspire while quite a bit of the other family were summarily executed for continuing to fight long after the King had entered the war. Gallisten was the first Bondurant to return to his homeland when he joined up with the sellsword company that had taken up a contract with Emeric. He was present at the battle of Markwasten Moor and witnessed Ransers forces broken amongst the graves of Rivenspires ancestors. Gallisten, at the time was a mere teenager and a recruit. But since then he has been raised up to Captain and now leads the company's detachment of archers.

Etain of Clan Cragmourn (DC) - is a Reachman and serves as a scout for the sellsword company. She hails from
the Western Reach and was once a hunter and tracker for Clan Cragmourn. Much of her youth was spent hunting and foraging. Often being left to fend for herself for days and weeks on end. While Etain has an affinity for magicka she prefers to use swords, axes and bows to fight with. As this is what many in her clan utilized to hunt the elk and mountain goats as well as fight with in her native land. Some time a few years ago, Etains Clan Matron was given news of a band of raiders moving through the Reach. They’d been attacking Reachmen where they stood and from what stories did make it to the Matrons ears. No one survived these attacks. At first the Matron ignored these stories as Clan Cragmourn spent most of their time high up in mountain ranges dwelling heavily in caves. They rarely felt threatened by much of anything not even other Reachman clans looking to war with them. Their ranks were mostly made up of conjurers, archers and berserkers as their environment did not provide the means for proper calvary or infantry. They have always used their environment to their advantage. But a few weeks after the news reached the clan a hunting party went missing. The Matron immediately dispatched a scouting party, which included Etain, to locate the Hunters and find out what happened to them. After a day of tracking they finally came upon what they suspected to be the location the hunting party was ambushed. They followed the tracks for another day before being ambushed themselves. The men were cut down or gravely injured with spears and bows so they could no longer fight. While Etain and the few other females in the group were singled out and incapacitated using nets and clubs. The last Etain saw of the few men left alive were their attackers taking turns killing them. Dragged to a river, she was loaded up on a small boat and shipped down river to a makeshift camp where others like her were held in cages or were being inspected by their captors. The prisoners were locked in irons and loaded onto dinghies that would transport them to large ships off shore. Etain had been captured by Slavers and was destined for the Eastern Peninsula of Morrowind. She had never been farther than a few leagues from her home so she was never sure of the actual city she had been shipped to but she recognized the inhabitants as Dunmer. She was almost immediately sold to an older Dunmer woman with crooked teeth and a missing eye that she cared little to hide. Etain would never serve her though because during the trip south to a village near Deshaan. Etain would make her escape after one of her captors guards, who had taken an unhealthy liking to Etain, loosened her chains after she complained. She didnt know how long her captors pursued her as she ran for what felt like days. Only stopping once she found herself deep in swamps that were too thick to continue running through. She would eventually find refuge with an Argonian village before trying to make her way back to the Reach. Unfortunately before she could make it to the mountains bordering Cyrodiil and Skyrim the Three Banners War broke out. And she was once again on the run, but this time from raiders, Imperial soldiers, and what seemed like armies from three of the four corners of Tamriel. Somehow she would stumble onto a camp of mercenaries near the northern Morrowind border. For days she hid amongst the crates, barrels and canvas covered carts stealing into the camp at night to pillage food. Eventually though, she would be caught and brought before Jorrhaq Vhent. When Jorrhaq threatened to cut her hands off she stayed stoic and calmly but matter of factly told Jorrhaq that she would work off what she owed him and that he would hire her on as a scout.

Bathes-In-Coin (AD) - Was at one time a slave in Southeastern Morrowind and belonged to a Dunmer diplomat and merchant. From a very young age Bathes took an unhealthy interest in anything gold. And received numerous beatings and unspeakable punishments for it. One time when his master had set a purse of coin out for a business deal Bathes snatched it up and hid it in his secret stash under his bedding. But his master knew immediately who took the purse and where to find the gold. Bathes was dragged out into the fields and chained to the ground beneath the blistering sun where he would remain for five days without water or food. When they finally brought him in from the field he was barely alive, dehydrated, hungry and his scales were completely dry. It took the other Argonian slaves caring for him night and day to nurse him back to health. While Bathes was notorious for his obsession with gold. He was extremely intelligent and took every opportunity to learn and observe everything his master and his ilk did or said. He learned of politics, of business and the odd magicka spell here and there. Eventually the Ebonheart Pact would be form and Bathes and his fellow slaves were freed. Bathes would head into Black Marsh looking to find a place to call home and come upon a group of ex-slaves. They would accept him in and he would begin apprenticing for the village Shaman. When the Three Banners War erupted representatives for the Ebonheart Pact approached his village looking for recruits. But the village elders refused. Bathes, seeing an opportunity pleaded with the village to look past their hatred for the Dunmer and their mistrust for the Ebonheart Pact. He tried to persuade them to stay independent but to offer to fight for the Pact as mercenaries as there would be greater profit in it. Unfortunately the elders did not agree with Bathes and rebuked the Pact recruiters which resulted in the village being expelled from the Pact lands. The village elders knew they could not go deeper into Black Marsh as they would not be accepted back into Argonian society after being tainted as former slaves and Bathes realized he would not be able to join the village on their journey because of the bitterness between he and the elders. So Bathes did the only thing he could do, travel north to Mournhold and hope to find work. Luckily when he arrived he found both Pact military recruiters and sellsword recruiters approaching everyone coming and going from the city. Without hesitation he signed on with the first company to drop a large purse of coin in front of him.

Yynril Rothvani (AD) - was a slaver for House Dres in his early years. Spending a great deal of his time trekking into Black Marsh and kidnapping Argonians in the dead of night or along the few roads in the swamps. Hes undoubtedly participated in countless atrocities in Black Marsh and has committed unspeakable crimes against his victims. Hes overseen numerous large scale enslavement operations that took place not long before enslavement of Argonians was outlawed. His personal opinion on the matter is that Dunmer should be free to do as they always have and that the Nords have no right to impede on the Dunmer societies right to assert its superiority onto lesser races like the Argonians. And given the chance he would gladly place irons and chains on Bathes, Etain, Dazsh and others like them. In his eyes, once a slave always a slave and unless Dunmer blood ran through their veins they belonged in chains. While slavery itself is still legal within Dunmer society, Yynril was outraged by his people's acceptance of the Nords demands. And instead of joining up with Slavers headed for Elsweyr and High Rock he walked away from Slaving for good. He travelled to Mournhold where he commissioned work on heavy armor and signed on with a sellsword company headed for Cyrodiil. He currently serves in the company's infantry and has at times been used to extract information from enemy soldiers. Earning himself the nickname Yynril the Merciless.

The lore reason is... my main is DC, all my friends and guilds are DC (this is before cross-faction instances), and Dunmer are the best race for a magicka DK.

Oh wait, that's not a lore reason.

Er... um... the lore reason is that a Daedric prince named Minmaxia told my Dunmer that she needs to wear blue. :p

(The vast majority of my characters--see sig for list--are actually faction-native.)

My lore reason is because some races are better at some roles than others so min/maxing requires altmer sorcs in DC altmer templar healers in DC dunmer DKs in DC khajiit nightblades in DC and pretty much no DC races in DC :)

But on a more serious note i dont think of my race and say im obligated to help this alliance. Playing the ES games is playing the character you like however you like. So i play an adventurer going wherever the road leads. Bretons are my fav race though because the magic resist you get is really good in the single player games in the series

    P.S. Buff bretons plox

Kazrian Dawnspell, born in Cyrodill. Raised in Sunhold

Race: Red Guard/Altmer: Kazrian Dawnspell is almost completely man in body and takes very well after his mother with pristine brown skin. However, His ears have a slight point yet still human in size and his eyes are an unnatural gold like his father.

    Class: Solar mage (MagTemplar)

Birth Date: 2E 559, 25th of the Eveningstar

Mothers Name: Zuri (most redguards do not have surnames), born in Sentinel, 2E 526

Fathers name: Saruman Dawnspell, born in Sunhold, 2E 522

    BIO:

Kazmius Dawnspell was born in Cyrodill to his Red Guard mother .Her father did not approve of her learning magic however, with his blessing and an ample amount of coin, he sent her off to learn magic at the University of Mages and to live with his Breton friend named Zacharias in Cyrodill. His Altmer father, Saruman, was a learned mage who taught restorative and Alteration magic at the University as a master of these subjects and is from an ancient Altmer family of mages and scholars with deep roots in the psijic order. The Saruman family is also an extremely wealthy family with a large estate in the country side. The two met while he was lecturing his students and mutual interest (especially on Sarumans side as he found redguard mages quite curious) turned into friendship and friendship turned into love.

Kazmius was named by his mother after her father and he was given the surname of Dawnspell by his father who received the title, “Dawnspell” as an affectionate moniker by his restoration students.

At the age of a mere two years old, he and his parents fled Cyrodill to escape from the war and made their way back to Sarumans’ hometown of Sunhold. At first his family disapproved of his dalliances with a human and his human son, however, through time and the open minded disposition they already had as magical scholars, they learned to love both Zuri and Kazmius. Zuri eventually became a master of conjurative and mystic magic and integrated quite well with Sarumans family of magical scholars as she pursued more scholarly research into her acquired field of study with Sarumans sister, Alennia. After years of scholarly cooperation, they became the best of friends and Alennia and her husband were very active in Kazmius’s life as Alennia did not want children of her own.

How Kazmius came to learn Solar Magic

At the age of five, Kazmius showed an aptitude for magic when he created an orb of light when he suffered from night terrors and thus was afraid of the dark. Eventually, one of his night terrors turned into a benevolent dream. In this dream he was transported to a deadric realm known as, “the colored” rooms where he met Meridia. Meridia came as a beautiful woman dressed in the most dazzling white and gold dress. She explained to him in the most motherly of ways that she could sense powerful magic in his veins and she ordained him as one of her champions. She also told him not to fear darkness and imbued him with a powerful magic of her own brand: Solar magic. As the power flowed through him he began to fade away from the colored rooms and woke up from his dream. The next day, he told his family about what happened. His father was especially interested. In his studies, Solar magic was seen in individuals touched Meridia and was a powerful hybrid of restorative and destructive magic. Thus he was very proud to learn of his child having such a gift. From time to time, he would be transported to the colored rooms to speak with Meridia and there she taught him how to use his magical gift.

    Kazmius Today:

At the age of thirteen and up until the age of 24, Kazmius was sent to learn at the mages guild and through time he became a mini celebrity his proficient use of solar magic. Magical scholars from all over the Summer Isles wanted to meet and study him.During his time in the mages guild, he met a young man named Correlon who was training the art of destruction to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodill. They fell in love and were staunch partners until he was sent to Cyrodill to fight in the war. As he was on his way there, he was attacked by powerful cultists of Molag Bal and subsequently died. When the news of his lovers death came back to him, Kazmius became infuriated. It was this fury that spurred Meridia to action. At his current age of 24 he was called by Meridia in his dream and at this time she believed him to be ready to finally put his rage and Solar magic gift to use. It was from this day he would be an agent of Meridia tasked with being one of her many mortal agents across Nirn to purify and smite all dark forces.

    Personality and Info:

He is a very intelligent and sometimes comes off as pushy and posh due to having a noble lifestyle in his families estate. He can be described as chaotic good and tends to like to do things, “his way” but all in all, he has a good heart. His privilege allowes him to take part in fashionable clothing. When he is dispensing justice, he makes sure he does it in style.

He is culturally Altmer and considers himself just as Altmer as the others. He is also aware of his red-guard maternal side but does not have a good relationship with them. The few times he has visited his family in Sentinel, have always been awkward. The people of Sentinel, including his own family, can tell he is not fully human due to his subtle "elf-like" features and thus treat him like an outsider. His grandfather of whom he was named after considers the fact bitter sweet but treats him with respect none-the-less and urges his family to do the same, in hopes of understanding him more and establishing a relationship. However, it will take a lot of time for his family to accept a half elf as one of their own.

When it comes to games like this, some people go full tilt into their characters. I think the only one I have bothered with when it comes to backstory is my Khajiit stam Ko'Shariba-do. She is the daughter of an old stamsorc I had named Jo'Mahirr the Storm-Claw. She improved on her father's techniques when it came to channelling electricity to cause physical damage instead of magick damage, thus developing the hurricane skill and causing the electricity to affect air pressure and creating a centralised turbulence around herself.
