I'm playing the same game and I rarely get lag and I'm on the lowest of the low...3 mbps DSL. For the past month it has only been occasional with quest pointers.

I could somewhat give your statement some credibility or agree with some parts but I counter your entire argument with 1 word... Orsinium.

    Strictly speaking on xbox 1.

What was so bad about Orsinium?

I played this game from beta till some time after 1.6. The most major complaint I have had was the overall rebalancing that occurred in 1.6 and the effect it had on hybrid mag/stam builds. I've been playing the game again for about two weeks now, and all I notice is how much the game has improved in almost all areas. Perhaps I'm misremembering, but it seems to me that the major issues I faced in the early days, including many skills not working at all (by which I mean, doing nothing whatsoever), with the remaining skills being mostly quite broken, tooltips almost never having any relation to what skills would actually do, characters constantly falling through the world, instances failing to load, or breaking part way through and barring completion, being unable to get kill credit as a healer, jumping while mounted would dismount you, various quests (including the main story quests) were broken to the point of being uncompletable, characters could even be lost to such quests, sometimes when deconstructing instead of deconstructing the thing from your bag it would deconstruct the gear you were wearing...

Could keep going. But I don't think it's fair to say things have only gotten worse. Like I say though, I'm pretty freshly back to the game so maybe I'm missing something. But as long as characters/items aren't accidentally deleting and most skills are associated with some effect, I think things have improved.

Where I think things have gotten much worse is in the actual combat gameplay. The early game is so trivially easy now, where once it was quite challenging. I made a new character and up to level 20 he still regularly 1 shots mobs, and kills packs before they get near him, very disappointing. Player characters need a major, major nerf, maybe just a flat reduction to 1/3rd of current damage in the overworld would do it. Or equivalently, tripling the health of all the lowbie mobs. There's no fun to be had from trivial combat as far as I'm concerned.

Well, considering I'm a programmer and also monitor my Internet connection and traffic regularly — I can honestly say that the problem (for me at least) is on ZOS' end.

I can play all types of games on: PS4, Wii U, 3DS, iOS, Mac, PS3, and not have the slightest bit of lag or internet disruptions. But when I play ESO, I disconnect from the server constantly and experience heavy freezing and lag? As well as blue screens?

The only game I've played that came close to the poor performance of ESO on console is Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V's "GTA Online". And even then, it never has gotten has bad as ESO is currently. And I'm more than certain that GTA Online has more people playing it across all platforms and individually than ESO. I'm willing to bet on that actually. Considering how popular of a game franchise GTA is. Lol.

It really is...every time they take it down for maintenance, they manage to make it worse not better.

I was trying to do a mages guild quest that I've done at least 3 times without issue. This time there was invisible enemies attacking me, invisible Haskill that took several minutes to finally appear and the game crashed when trying to finish it.

They need new, competent people to fix the mess they've made (sorry ZOS team, you broke it and can't get it right)

I was thinking this as well.

As I'm running through Rivenspire this morning and getting Wrothgar level loading screens after last nights maintenance, I thought..

It's like my Dad works for ZOS. And he just keeps saying "I can fix this", "I can fix this". "I can fix this".

And progressively making it worse and worse and worse.

And then eventually mum has to call the handyman in to fix the original problem, as well as all the other problems Dad created when he "fixed" it.

So I've been having all the usual issues, my main platform is Xbox but I've played on pc since beta and EA, also play on ps4. My main issue is my main damn toon is stuck AGAIN, PERMANENTLY, in Orsinium. I promise as soon as I'm able to retrieve him, we're leaving orsinium and NEVER coming back. That's a damn shame cuz I still have a few sets i need to get from their but O WELL. ANYWAY, today I went to Orsinium for the first time with my alt. I just wanted to finish the first quest and bail. I wanted to make sure I unlocked the wayshrine In the city before I left so I sprinted to it, when I go there I crashed BUT for the first time I get an error message in game. It said something along the lines of "Out of Memory" it was the kind of error message you get on pc when your add one become out dated only im on Xbox. Anyway I hope that helps the Devs some how.

Btw, ZOS really, REALLY a need to get some people in there with some experience. Their all so young and I'm sorry but you need some real veterans to get this game back up to snuff. This is and has been my favorite game of all time, believe it or not. I been playing since the original nintendo so that says a lot. But Jesus, this game is a damn shame right now

The only complaint I have about this game, which has never been addressed is the combat system. But that is something which I can tolerate quite easily. Every other complaint I had prior was already fixed in prior patches. So, I gotta say that I'm with you on the whole "things have improved." statement.

    Nah the game's working fine.

was for me up until this last maintainance. went from perfect fps to it taking 2 fulk minutes to mount my horse. trying to do todays trial runs had ne almost throw my console through my 4k tv. I got kicked 6 or 7 times, it was an absolute mess. I had the day off, soon as I got home from work I had a maintainance that just wouldn't fkn end. woke up to this??

maybe it's bad luck with my isp, but I'm definitelt not touching ,y controller again until tomorrow xD

could be a coincidence, but since this last maint game went from working almost perfectly to the complete definition of unplayable. I'm glad to see your feedbaxk is positive, gives me hooe that my net is just a bit wonky today.

I can hop on battlefield 4 and have ABSOLUTELY ZERO issues. No lag, I might get dropped from the odd game but that's once in a blue moon. I hop on ESO, no matter where I go or what I'm doing there is lag. There's an infinite supply of loading screens and the crashes they're constant. Play the division, no problems at all. But hop back on eso and it's non stop problems. So yes, I'm pretty confident the problem is on ZOS's end.

Definitely in it's worst state since release on PS4. Played 8 hours yesterday and crashed at least 15 times. Along with all the other bugs that have been talked about I have also been noticing issues with object collision such as a roaming boss knocking me through a wall in the sewers so I was stuck in the unplayable zone outside (the views were freaking awesome though) and last night a NB feared me and I ran into a column and became stuck inside during a long awesome battle outside our keep. I couldn't use get me unstuck or log out during the fight so I had to close the program completely and when I tried to load back in I got the unusually long load time screen then got kicked with "can't connect to server" message three times in a row and it wind up taking me 20+ minutes to get back into game.

THIS ^^ is the kind of thing I've been experiencing lately, getting worse and worse - Sunday morning it took me about 10 tries just to get to the character select screen and even then it froze on me again. But no one posted anything similar in my thread about it. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/279610/whats-the-extent-of-playability-issues-on-ps4#latest

The fact that ESO is the ONLY game where I get these problems proved that you are wrong...

I can understand the frustration people are feeling, but actually successfully connecting to other games doesn't prove anything in definite terms.

Every game requires different ports, and the connection to their service works differently than the next game or service. People are comparing their connections to FPS games. They use a different kind of connection protocol than MMO. MMOs will often use both packet based UDP and stream based TCP. I would be willing to bet that at least for some people here, they are not set properly in their own gear.

I remember when my son was having issues with just a Halo game. It would not connect to any match. Call of Duty was working fine. It was because of just 1 port that was not set to TCP. The same thing happened when I use to play another MMO. When entering an area, it would be 30 seconds before any NPCs would show. Again a port setting for packets needed to be enabled. My ESO is working fine, but a neighbor of mine can't stay connected. He has the same ISP and router. I don't know why he is having trouble because he doesn't want me to look at his gear.

I am just saying that there is a good chance it is a combination of issues. People may want to at least consider that possibility.

Dont know anything about consoles, but at least i had some problems in pc also lately. Kinda seems like theres some memory leak, sence after x amount of playing game start to lag so bad in bigger fight's, like in trials. But to be fare i also have several addons, and some of those might couse this. I had this same problem before then it was gone, but now couple of maintaince's ago it appears again. Kinda terrible when your in trial lets say in last boss and all of the sudden fps drops even under 10. Rebooting game fix this always but only for while.

check your addons. its entirely possible one of them is the cause of your memory leak.

got on . since earlier the difference is night and day, good fps, gameplay os crisp, not getting booted. no issues whatsoever, gameplay is without error.

I wonder if it's lag caused by am influx of returning players or something. perhaps their performance enhancements are being stress tested beyond their limits >.<

@CapnPhoton Hey mate, are you able to share any information that we can perhaps try?

I have forwarded ports etc. on my ps4 (I'm no expert) and had things running perfectly in the first few months of this game on console.

I could run with Zergs and have no drop outs, rarely any frame rate issues and aside from my ping (Playing on NA from Japan with my buddies) it was near perfect... I was loving it.

Then IC dropped and it was like night and day. Nothing on my set-up changed. But the game was suddenly unplayable.

I took a few months off, and returned a month ago for DB. It's better in PVE. But Cyrodiil is just a mess.

I'm open to suggestions if you have any? Cheers

There's definitely a highly selective issue when loading textures and world geometry.

In Grahtwood last night the texture for the little roadside stone walls were just flat black. They finally rendered correctly after doing a quest in the area for ten minutes.

The doorway to the Altmer embassy next to Elden Root is strangely distorted. I think it's the simplified version used to render it when it's far away.

Hallway behind the Elden Root wayshrine often looks closed up, but you can run through it, and there's no wall or floor textures in the hallway. You can see outside. It crashes here every other time. Real fun given half my current quests pass through there.

It's those same, specific things over and over, even after reboots. XB1 version, BTW.

If there really is this dichotomy of people having lots and lots or zero problems, maybe it's a local corruption issue. Is there a way to do a reinstall on XB1 with losing characters and saves? I think that's all on the server side, yes?

This is the down side of a DLC/Major Patch per Quarter approach. When youre only making a swing at fixes twice maybe three times and one of those are a major addition to the game which also breaks other things. Youre going to find bugs piling on and eventually its going to get out of control.

Their approach to bug fixes vs profitable content needs to be evened out. Its currently too lopsided towards profitable content and is the reason the game seems to be getting worse rather than better. Hopefully with One Tamriel and Q4 they can throw in on some serious bug fixing. I personally wouldnt mind having at least one Quarter every year completely devoted to bug fixing with maybe a Dungeon Pack added on.

In practice you're probably right, but in theory you could certainly be wrong as it may be the way your ISP routes the connection to the game. Other games with other server locations would be unaffected. Although as I say you could well be right and it's the game, as in any situation where most can play ok but some can't it is worth considering all the possibilities at your end and between your end and the game servers, just in case. I'd certainly go on your ISP's forums and see if anyone else has the same problem.
