Practicality of Sanctum Ophidia Sets

So like, now that: Infalible Aether, Viper's Sting, Skirmisher, Eternal Yokeda, Dreugh King Slayer, Elegance, Vicious Serpent, and Knightmare are all available in CP160 with the DB update. There is a simple question I have, now that I have collected all the pieces to every set piece in Sanctum Ophidia (except another Vicious Serpent Ring >_<).

Are they worth obtaining (as a whole) or using, being as we have other things that are possibly superior? And could they compete with them for BIS gear?

For example, can Skirmisher's Bite compete with maybe Eternal Hunt or the Crusader set? Could Elegance compete with Julianos? Things like that.

Or better yet, we can take this a bit further. Is acquiring the jewelry pieces to these sets worth giving up: Agility, Endurance, and Willpower pieces? Same with monster set pieces. Would it be wise to give up that Kena or Malubeth 2pcs. to complete maybe your Dreugh King Slayer 5psc. or Vicious Serpent 5pcs.?

Those are the questions I'm faced with now. Lol. And I'd really love some in-depth explainations as to whether or not it's worth switching-up the switch-up. You all have probably heard the saying, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." But, when you have all these new juicy sets scaled up... It's like truly a question of how to build with them, while incorporating some of the new gems like Julianos. Or, just to leave them in the stash.

For certain builds most of the sets that drop in SO are useful. Additionally, since they come in jewelry as well they can be matched with sets that do not come in jewelry such as crafted and most dropped sets

I have 5-piece TBS/Julianos and 5-Piece Elegant on my Magicka Nightblade. My medium weaves with Maelstrom Inferno hit like a freight train.

Is it best/better? I am not sure.

    Is it fun? Yup

Many of my friends are using Aether and speak highly of it.

I got no explanations, but people have been going nuts over the elegance set in my guild. The jewelry and swords or whatever one handed with sharpened have been going crazy high.

Elegant works on Overload, so I know a lot of Sorcs who use it.

Aether is fantastic in group content, in solo content I still prefer to rock my Willpower Jewlery with an Undaunted set to go along with Julianos or TBS.

I think they are worth it on some builds.
I am currently running 5x TBS with a kena and bloodspawn piece and agility jewelry.

I want to replace the jewelry and head and shoulder for 5 pieces of Vicious Serpent. (I might even do 5 of vipers sting)

Sorcs who rely on Overload like to replace Willpower + Torug with 5p Elegant--a DPS loss on their normal rotation, but a large gain when they Overload.

Aether+TBS+vMA Lightning Staff or Aether+Elegant+vMA Lightning Staff (this time, with Elegant on armor or jewelry so that it's active on both bars) makes for a very good heavy-attack sorc build.

Aether+SPC is a good build for Trials healing, if the other healer in the group is running Worm+SPC.

Skirmisher is a good set to combo with another dodge roll set such as Eternal.

Vicious Ophidian is fantabulous for solo PvE (vMA). Not as useful in group PvE, unless it's a group that doesn't have Templar. Think of it as having a Templar in your pocket to give you lots of repents. I like to pair VO with TBS (the TBS health bonus is nice for places like vMA).

I know for a fact that Viper's sting is quite deadly in PvP because of it's 5th bonus. Other than that the set is mediocre at best. Dreugh King is quite good for heavy DD's, but hardly BiS. Not quite sure about others, I don't really see or hear that many people using them, at least not in PvP, can't speak for PvE.

Vicious Serpent is a great sounding set for vMA because of the high mobility and sustain it provides. A stamina DK using ultimates, getting 2k stamina, and 8% stamina cost reduction along with pretty much 100% uptime on movement speed is insane.

I've noticed that I'm killing both A.I. enemies, and players alike incredibly fast with a combination of: Elegance, Kena, and Julianos. If I had a lightning Maelstrom Staff, I'd be probably killing things even faster. Lol.

You've got me thinking on this 1. What if I use this while on my Orc StamDK, instead of Dreugh King Slayer? The movement speed would be incredible in VMA. Lmao.

I think it gives people options, particularly because they have jewelry.

My NB used Viper's Sting when he was in his 20s and it worked really well. He tried Skirmisher later, but it didn't jive with his style. Now that he is 50, I can get him back on Viper's and combine it with another set, possibly a crafted one like Hunding's Rage.

I've been eyeing Elegance for my sorc, as she never got her gear upgraded to 160. Now I just need to figure out what to do for my Templar as her DPS/Heal loadout. I may wait for Healer/Warlock to be 160 in the next update.

I think they're not only viable but provide the opportunity for some interesting build variations. For example, Elegant + Infallible Aether = Destro Heavy Attack Magicka DK, which is actually pretty cool. ^^

Obviously it would be hard for any of them to replace Julianos, TBS or Night Mother's, for most builds, but the important thing is that they provide OPTIONS. Options are good. :)

Elegance heavy attack based mDK is a fun glass cannon type build for PvP. Buff with molten armamants, empower with radiant magelight, I've landed 15k heavy attacks in PvP, though the average is more like 12-13k when it crits. Followed up with a destructive reach then medium weave into crushing shock will kill most players.

The only problem with the build is shuffle really kicks you hard when you miss after charging a heavy attack.

Well, I would base the usefulness of the unbound sets based on what they sell for. In which case, Dreugh King, Skirmisher, and Viper are all pretty useful, while the others, not so much. Dreugh King and skirmisher are both very viable in PVP. I think people want Viper to be good in PVE, but everyone I know that has tested it has gone away from it. Shadow Dancer has a Niche roll I suppose. Cool if you want to breeze through DB/TG quests and arent a vampire. Elegant is BIS on a sorc in VMA and any group content where the fights are less than a minute (most dungeons and old trials). Elegant makes your overload attacks hit REALLY hard.

    As for the Bound sets:

Eternal Yokuda. This set blows. Any set based around dying is pretty lame IMO. Perhaps might make a good troll set in PVP.

Infallible Aether. I believe that the jewelry alone is a hair better than willpower if you are fighting a boss, same goes for VO set. It's really close though with my testing, so I wouldnt bet the farm on that one. The 5 pieces is really cool if you have a VMA lightening staff. Nos has put together some very cool builds with it. I run 5 piece on my Sorc and DK when doing heavy trash and some of the bosses that are add heavy in the new trials. This set turns your VMA staff into an AOE machine that costs no magic. Pretty cool. It is also great on healers because you can put minor maim on everything and it can be used with SPC.

Vicious Ophidian. I am running this and TBS on my Stam DK. Do I think it is absolute BIS in a perfect group with a perfect rotation? Probably not, but its really close. That being said, I love it. It solves all your sustain issues, gives a ton of crit, minor slayer, and who doesnt love a little extra mobility. I also think this set will likely be Meta in the new DSA, but prob too soon to tell on that one. I think BIS for a stam build is 5 TBS, 2 Mephala, 3 VO or Agility, VMA weapons, but I really dont like the idea of mixing in Heavys to my rotation, and we are talking about a pretty small difference.

Viper and Skirmisher are quite the good sets in PvP. Especially as they come in jewelry (and weapons, though pretty rare).
For example, combining Skirmisher with Eternal Hunt is quite strong.

Julianos, Aether, and Maelstrom Lightning/Inferno destros makes a great build for the MDK. I currently run it in my trial groups. It lets the healers use SPC+Worm and SPC+Twilight since by weaving with Lightning on the back bar I'm making sure that the debuff stays up all the time.

druegh king in weapons and jewelry is good for dw/bow setups since it passively gives you major brutality and the jewelry is healthy. good for maelstrom and anything else you nees 20k health for. viper sting is a good dps set as well. infallible aether is ftw stacked with spc for group dps buffs, vicious ophidian is fn amazing!

been using vo and eternal yokeda for a while now. been using eternal yokeda amd tavas favor since tg with max health health regen, love the set.

Was using infallible and scathing last night on magblade. Works perfectly. If that heavy attacks procs, wind up your relentless and the bow will hit for 38k. Was pulling some stupid numbers on it. Precise weapons enable you to drop thief as you get 4 lots of crit and switch to shadow. 63% crit and using shadow seems to be the way foward.

I tested that out in VMA before heading to bed, and that particular setup is amazing. However, it does seem to have a tiny bit of sustain issues. So every here and there, I'd have to use Overload light attacks or restoration staff heavy attacks to get back magicka.

what do you think? everybody Ive talked to said the TBS/VO is way more versatile and only a fraction less in damage
