Are Caltrops really that needed for PvE content? I'd figure the Magicka Det would be more worth it.

For certain builds, yes. It's absolutely mandatory. Otherwise your DPS will be suffering tremendously without it.

Example: Maelstrom Bow + Endless Hail + Razor Caltrops = Beautiful AOE damage in dungeons and trials alike. Plus VMA.

Jeez it literally takes like, a day. PvPers have to get Undaunted and trust me, that's no picnic.

You (among others replying here) do know you can raise Undaunted via Public Dungeons achievements as well, right? You don't have to just sit in queue hoping for Group Dungeon/Vet Dungeon pops...

I guess "a day" is also highly relative to when you are in the world, since every time I jump into Cryodiil it's an barren wasteland with barely anything going on. Mind you I don't' have Imperial City to gank hapless Tel Var farmers either.

I have Undaunted 9 on 3 characters. I'm not unfamiliar with the process. I think, under perfect conditions (dedicated group of 4 good players grinding dungeons extremely efficiently, no-death, speed-runs, all achievements) you could get Undaunted maxed out in a day. That being said, holy cow that would be a miserable day.

Playing on console for like 14 months ... undaunted level 4.

Lol that's just you. You literrally have to try to not get past 4 in 14 months

(Max undaunted on 3 toons and max AvA on 4 toons so I'm not blowing hot air)

Can't argue that! Haha. You're so right.

Other than my last 44 CP, and an eventual race change, I literally can't do anything else at this point to make my character stronger. But every time I think about doing this I do something else.

Also, I kind of feel bad for my group mates since I'm so awful at the dungeons and have no inclination to change my PVP build. Haha.

    enough with this already

    ^This!

Personally don't enjoy running dungeons and eventually gave up ever getting the Undaunted Mettle passive on any of my characters. It requires 1300 Undaunted XP to reach rank 9, equivalent to 130 silver pledges or 65 gold pledges. I had also given up ever obtaining any monster helms until they were recently added to the PVP vendor.

Meanwhile Caltrops are unlocked at assault rank 6, only requires 188k AP now (about 6 or 7 hours if you earn around 30k per hour). This used to take several weeks, and it took me about 8 months to reach Centurion back in the day and get Vigor. These abilities used to be kind of cool rewards for long term advancement in PVP.

It sucks and it has sucked in any game that does it. You should not have to grind out pve for pvp stuffs or pvp for pve stuffs.

I've always had a similar stance on these things. I wouldn't mind if they made skills similar to vigor, proximity detonation, and caltrops and put them into the fighter's/mage's guild lines (possibly replacing skills/morphs that are rarely if ever used).

I'm not as familiar with PvP myself. What Undaunted skills are used regularly in PvP?

The skills, none. It's the passives. The one passive that gives you 1% more resources based on your armor mix is the biggest one. As it sits right now my character could be 3% better than it is right now, which amounts to a little over 1200 to 1500 more magic. Not a ton but when your min/maxing everything counts.

    Wait wait wait.....

For one you can farm mats in PvP all day lore books skyshards and dolemens as well. Two you say its repetative doing the same things over and over again.... How prey tell is that any diffrent than PvE, some may even argue PvE is even more repetative killing the same brainless mobs and bosses over and over again....

One does not simply farm: Lorebooks, mats, and skyshards in PVP... I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's suicide. Lol... Farming on a battlefield... Do you think you're Villager, and this is Smash Bros.?

For the past year or so, Cyrodiil has been the only place to farm max level mats if you don't have the DLC.

Unlike launch when there were battles all across Cyrodiil, these days there is not much going on in the vast majority of the map. You are not going to find a gang of nightblades hiding behind every flower waiting to gank crafters.

    Grab a powered weapon.
Make a set of divines gear.
Pick up the Ritual mundus stone.
Spec your CP into Blessed, 100 points
    Kill a Cyrodiil delve boss
Go repair walls. If you're Templar, drop your rune focus. If DK, drop your Igneous Shield.

130 - 150ish AP per kit, depending on some other factors.

I've leveled 10 toons to Barrier/Caltrops with this method. I'll pvp from time to time but as a PvE'er, I find this the easiest way, though somewhat expensive. You can even keep tabs on the keeps while you're doing PvE stuff and when you see a keep about to upgrade, port in and hit it.

If you're a stamina damage dealer, and you're not using Caltrops and Vigor in your build...? I don't know what to tell you. Because, just about all end-game stamina PVE builds revolve around the usage of those skills and morphs. As I told someone else, the amount of damage alone from a Maelstrom Bow's Endless Hail in conjunction with Razor Caltrops is phenomenal AoE damage. Absolutely amazing for: Dungeons, trials, VMA, etc.

Takes about 5 hours to get caltrops solo or with a group of 2-3. Takes almost the same amount of time to get Mage's/Fighter's Guild. Oh, and don't get me started on Undaunted.

So, uh, what's the issue and why should it be even easier simply because you're bad at PvP?

I suspected that might be it. The passive is trickier to fix. Maybe it could swap places with the other passive? It would still take dungeon hopping to get, but it would be much faster.

Because we play games to have fun and enjoy our leisure time. Having to participate in an activity we find unfun runs counter to the entire point of playing a game.

After I ground my stamdk to 50, it was time to grind up the Undaunted. And it took me 10 days to reach Undaunted 9. Both daily pledges, a few trials, and trying to get as many achievements as possible.

The achievement-rich dungeons are quite a gold mine; my run of the vWGT pledge got me 90 Undaunted points (70 from achievements: WGT completed, vWGT completed, vWGT hard mode, vWGT speed run, Imperial Transgressions, Out of the Frying Pan, and another 20 from turning in the pledge); could've been more if we didn't have that death and gotten no-death, too. Next patch, the two new dungeons have a gazillion achievements tied to them, which would make it even easier to level up Undaunted.

I could've done it quite a bit faster than 10 days if I had been better about getting achievements. For example, I missed out on all of the no-death ones (and didn't bother to re-run them to get them), I didn't run HRC or vDSA because they weren't the weekly, I didn't complete the vSO run on that character because I had to swap to another character mid-run, we flubbed the Stainless Souls achievement in nMoL, I missed two people for vCoA's Undaunted Rescuer, and I didn't bother to buy drinks for the Undaunted in all the cities. Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head--there are more that I could've gotten had I really tried.

So if I wanted it really badly, I could've gotten Undaunted 9 in a week instead of 10 days.

The funny thing is, I still don't have Fighter's Guild 10, Mage's Guild 10, Earthen Heart 50, or even Bow 50. I got Undaunted 9 before any of those. :D I did get Vigor within a couple of days, so the PvP grind is still a bit faster.

Finnd some low lv character inv him to group and pass him lead. Now all dungeons You'll walk in will be scaled to that low lv dude so You'll be able to one shot everything there even naked and You'll get undaunted points for completing it. it's the same with trials. You'll not max undaunted just by that but it's a good start.

I don't know what type of PVP you're doing, or what server you're on that would enable you to pull that off — but no. Getting Caltrops in ~24hrs. is highly improbable.

I got my alliance rank 1-10 in a day, caltraps is a few hours.

Imagine as a pvper having to do pve in order to properly pvp. Oh wait, undaunted takes how long?

Mind providing information in the form of facts to support your claims? Because that really seems unlikely. In the past 2 days I've captured IDEK how many keeps and outposts, and killed tons of players as well. Assault is currently at 5, and I've been putting in tons of hours. Mind explaining how, in order to support your claims?

Stop running in a pug group, killing a high cp guy on your own nets 1.9k~ per kill.

Zerging will get you no ap, either solo or small group with good players so you can kill larger groups than you easily, basically farm the baddies.

Wait for ticks, my highest tick is 86k, but you usually see 5-15k on big fights

I managed to get 1.1m ap and emp that day, got emp when i was around 800k~.

Oh, you forgot to mention that you have no life, and a poop sock.
