Never pay a bounty, not ever.

You should get plenty of fake pardons from reward bags and Thieves' Guild quests, or just buy the reduced bounty passive, or go do something else where there's no pigs. Craft in Coldharbour. Run a dungeon or delve. Pick flowers. Fish. It's amazing how fishing for an hour makes everyone forget you killed a dozen people and arranged their bodies in a daisy chain.
Kitty Rainbow Dash. pick, pick, stab.

You have to scope out the surroundings before you make a kill. Take note of all NPCs and their wandering patterns. Sometimes you have to take out potential witnesses first before you move on your target. You've got to use strategy instead of just going in all Stabby McStabberton on everyone.

Also, steal stuff and sell it to fences. This helps with paying off bounties if you don't want to wait.

    L2Stealth?

I mean, before you make your move, you need to be aware of your surroundings: the way your target moves, other NPCs, Guards, Escape routes in case you do get seen, etc...

It's actually more profitable than you think: you get quest gold rewards every 2-3 mins or so, stolen items as loot, and with the Spree quests you have a chance for a Counterfeit Pardon Edict.

TG is still more profitable imo...

So I used the blade to murder an innocent citizen with the full indicator of (Hidden) which means that NOBODY IS SEEING ME! So I engage in the animation to kill the person and I get a fricken bounty put on me. How the hell can that happen?

How the hell can anyone truly enjoy this DLC (including TG) without going into bankruptcy? Please fix your game, ZoS! your game is becoming more irritating as time goes by.

i did just fine, both the enjoy and not going bankrupt. one key is realizing the little icon is no substitute for casing the situation yourself. While your character is woeing someone, anybody approaching can trigger bounty.

So, not sure about you but with one character all the way thru Db and another at DB-4, i am enjoying it just fine and bank is growing fatter.

    Yes! This^.
I get 10-12 kills and pick 30 pockets per day and get MAYBE one bounty, and thats if I hurry it. I never get caught. It is patience, timing and watching the npc's around you for a few minutes. As for the OP, no, it is not bugged, it's just you.

You seem to misunderstand the fundamentals of stealth in this game. Unlike some other Elder Scrolls games, people don't watch someone next to them die and assume it was just the wind. In this one, if someone is around to witness a murder, even if you are in stealth, you will be caught. The key to staying undetected is to make sure that both you are unobserved and your target is unobserved. Sometimes a target is constantly supervised and you need to kill potential witnesses in order to get to the target unnoticed. This isn't a broken mechanic, it is functioning exactly as intended, near as I can tell. Hopefully this info will help you play dirty and get away clean more often!

i was working on DB yesterday on my HA wearing tank and made a killing (sorry couldnt resist) selling the stuff im looting from their bodies. no bounties for killing, just the attemps at pickpocketing (as im leveling up TG at the same time)

I find that turning off the scinematic option for the Blade of Woe makes it quite a lot easier  also frees me from that weird camera

@Daemons_Bane Thanks for pointing that out.

I really need to explore the Gameplay options again. While the cinematic is actually nicely done, and not overbearing, it would be nice to not have to see it all the time.

Anytime we attack we come out of stealth so being in stealth doesn't prevent getting a bounty of we are near another npc. They will see us when we actually attack.

Look around. Pay attention. That's the idea of being an assassin.
Edit: ok, behind being a successful assassin.

Like others have said, stealth only allows you to use the Blade of Woe. The actual kill happens out of stealth.

So before you kill, make sure there is no one around who can see you while NOT in stealth. This is a measure of distance to you and orientation to you (facing you or not, obstructed, etc..)

You don't get a bounty unless there's someone within range that sees you commit murder. You go out of stealth for the animation.

I've done many Blade of Woe kills which got me a bounty, and many which haven't. Just practice it.

Also, I find a good way to balance gameplay if you get a bounty is just to go to Cyrodiil / IC. There are no bounties in Cyrodiil.

So, do some thieving and murdering, and if you end up with a bounty then go spend some time in Cyro, change it up a bit. Check your character sheet to see when your bounty is gone, and then return back to civilization. It's a win-win.

If you don't like Cyro or IC.. well then you're missing out big time. But that's a different conversation.

Thats what the dark brotherhood skill line is for. And when coupled with the thiefs guild skill line plus pardon edicts its almost too easy....though I think it's perfect. If you are trying to turn your character into an assasin without investing any skill points you really cannnot consider yourself an assasin and can assume the worse. Also, investing in the Cloak skill is crucial. Also, what the heck is wrong with having a high bounty? You can't be considered a bad guy if you're not punished for getting caught. If there's no law there's no right or wrong, and the more strict the law and the punishment are the worse the crime will be, which will make you a bigger criminal depending on your bounty. I know a player who counts his bounties like thier chocolate cup cakes all because it makes him feel like a better criminal. So my point is if you don't like bounties, invest in the skill lines, if you already have and still don't like bounties don't be a criminal.

It's not broken or bugged. You're simply doing it wrong.

Of course I'm doing it all wrong. Of course this game is not bugged at all... after all it's the haters of this game that makes false accusations claiming that they're experiencing bugs when it's not true at all.

After all those who do experience a flaw in this game must be doing something wrong, right?

The blade of woe makes things so simple it's not even a challenge, so quit your whining. If it's too hard for you to play with a blade of woe I don't know what to tell you. It's the easiest way to fulfill a quest and the easiest gold you can get in the game. Blade of woe 10 people and you have over 1,000 gold lickitey split in under 5 min. You MUST be doing something wrong.

Even if you do get a bounty it's only like 500 gold. Just sneak around for a while and it disappears real quick. If I have a bounty, by the time I finish a delve or other side task it's gone.

Even if you are hidden when you press X, the act of the assassination takes a few seconds. I've had NPC's suddenly turn around while I was in the act - just like your chances of pickpocketing can go from 95% to 20% before you can press the key. That's why when you pickpocket guards you always have your escape route planned :-)

So yeah, just pay attention more to your surroundings and if you get unlucky you should have made over 10 times the amount anyway easy and quick.

Please forgive me if this is an ignorant question, Ive DB, but never in my history of Elder Scrolls games has any of my characters ever joined Dark Brotherhood. There are just some lines that even my stickiest fingered thieves just will not cross lol
But I am wondering is it possible to sneak up on a target and right before you get ready to make the kill, you pop an invisibility/speed potion. Would this work to help from being detected?
I am just curious about this, as it seems to work for thieving, I can rob any container in full view of guards this way, it also seems to work for pickpocket, and a single force lock attempt on a safe before potion wears off.
Was wondering if it would work for kills also, but since my characters do have that very thin thread of morals left in them when it comes to killing innocents, I have not tested in on my own..

One time I used the nightblade shadow skill in a tricky spot (or I was being lazy - I can't remember). I believe what happened was the NPC close to me said something like they usually do, but when I looked at my bounty it was the same. So even though the crime was discovered, the bounty wasn't assigned to me.

So yeah, that makes it even easier - If you are having problems getting caught with such a crazy-easy task, just craft some invisibility potions. Nirnroot isn't the hardest ingredient to find.

Just to give an idea of how far you need to clear from witnesses to avoid a bounty - I run around in 5 pcs of Night Mother's Embrace (the drop NM gear) on my Templar, with all the stealth bonuses from passives I can currently muster (not capped on Medium, so I'm a little low) and my stealth indicator reading HIDDEN. I went and assassinated a target with a Guard across the street in Kvatch near the castle and got accosted. Fortunately, the time it took me to cross the street allowed my kill on sight to drop off, so all I was subjected to was a bounty request (which I declined to pay, as I have powerful friends :D )

So, you do have to be quite discreet and very aware of your surroundings when you're getting ready to murder someone. As you probably should be anyway. :)
  • theroyalestpythonnub18_ESO
Think about it. You may not notice a guy slinking around in the bushes, but if he jumps out of hiding and stabs the guy standing just 10 feet away from you, chances are you'll see somethings up.

Invisibility is good for approaching a kill, but when you hit X, you'll be revealed and lose your invis. So I prefer to keep my invis/major expedition potions for getaways and moving past guards while I have bounty.
