Wow, great work on the 64-bit client!

Although the new 64-bit client fixed the random sounds and "hissing" noise many of us were experiencing, it did not fix all the sound problems for me. I still get random missing sounds for some of the actions I do in-game. For example, going up to a wood node and using the axe. I see the axe fall, but don't hear the chopping sound. But then I use it again a bit later and it works fine. So something that is suppose to trigger a particular sound when you do a in-game action doesn't always work.

How can we tell what client we are using? Where can we download the 64bit client? Any other instructions needed?

I don't see how ESO is using true 64 bit....because every other game I have had to download a full 64 bit client separate to the 32 bit one...

Also all the game files are still currently located in 32 bit program files so just because you click on a 64 bit application icon how is the game suddenly a true full 64 bit client with no files in 64 bit program files?

Unless you go and launch the 64 bit exe manually you are still using the 32 bit version (on PC anyways Mac is 64 bit only I think). You don't need to download anything extra, the 64 bit exe is already in your install directory. To use it go to where you have ESO installed. Typically its the directory below.

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client"

Look for a application called "eso64" and double click it to run the 64 bit client. You can also right click on it and click "Send to desktop" to create a desktop shortcut that will launch the 64 bit client. Whenever a patch comes out you need to open the game regularly and let the launcher download the update, then you can go back to using the 64 bit version.

To answer your other question, it dose not matter that the game is in the x86 program files folder. You can put it wherever you want, Windows dose not care. The executable is the only thing that needs to be 64 bit, everything else is just data the exe uses so no need to re download a separate version of all the same graphics and audio data.

It doesn't matter where ESO is located. You can have it installed on a whole separate hard drive. I have plenty of 64 bit games that are in my "Program files x86" directory because they are installed through steam. There is no restriction in Windows that says 64 bit exe's have to be installed in a certain directory.

If you launch "eso64" Windows task manager will show that its a 64 bit process.

That is a convention for Windows to allow older programs to run, not what programs are in the folder. Certain allowances have to be made for older programs and this is how Windows knows to allow those. It does not mean those allowances are needed. 64 Bit programs can run just fine from the X86 folder, it just won't use any of the special rules set up for 32 bit programs. The game could be in the C:\Funky Games I Like To Play folder, it does not matter. But, on the other hand, if you install an older program that does not work, it may be necessary to install it in Program Files (X86) so Windows will know how to handle it.

Cheers makes sense now, no idea why but I remember from long time ago you could not install 64 bit unless it was in 64 bit program files and if you did install 64 bit in the 32 bit folders it would still run but just at 32 bit not 64 bit....while 32 bit would only ever work in the 32 bit program files. Maybe that's how it used to be then with much older programs or I am just getting confused, I grew up on Acorn RISC OS PC's and BBC Computers which I always found way more easier to use than windows OS....maybe it's because I am used to doing everything manually but I guess it's all automatic now, like you said windows knows what it is and how to handle the process even if it's in a different location now...

The client will download a 64-bit .exe and put it in your client/live folder automatically. BUT you need to manually launch the ESO64.exe file yourself. The launcher currently will only launch the 32-bit application.

Oh and in regards to the Program Files (x86) vs Program Files folders...it doesn't matter if a 64-bit application is located in the (x86) folder. It will run just fine from anywhere on your computer hard drive. The reason Windows has those 2 folders separate was mainly a decision for older legacy apps so they wouldn't accidentally find and load a 64 bit version of some file they need. It is hardly necessary today.

edit: I see this was answered like an hour ago already, lol.

Can we stop with the premature congratulations? Every one of the posts in this thread needs a /sarcasm tag. I mean, people are saying "wow it works great, I only crashed once!" or "there's only a few audio issues, when I re-log they get fixed."

Have you forgotten that a game is not supposed to crash over weeks of game time, let alone a single play session? Or that sounds playing at the wrong time is not a normal thing?

I saw the same type of post a month ago after an update. Give me a *** break. At least play a few days without issue before proclaiming the game is bug free.

I prefer to give feedback as I see fit. I give it for good stuff, and I give it for bad stuff.

If you want to sit back and wait to give positive feedback until such a time as their are absolutely no issues at all with the game, then feel free.

For me the difference was immediate and noticeable so I am giving feedback. Don't like it? Too bad.

Why don't you give the rest of us a break from the constant complaining and ever present pessimism on these forums? There's tonnes already out there. I know I've had my fill. This is a good thing that 64-bit is working much better.

Oh, and add a 16 and 8 bit one too please.

    Seriously?

I don't understand why this would seem odd to you. ZOS gives us both 32bit client and 64bit client. Sometimes one or the other is not working well. The launcher currently only launches the 32bit client. Maboleth is just asking to have the option from the launcher of which client to use.

I setup shortcuts for mine but then such things are trivial for me. But that is not true for everyone who plays ESO.

I noticed a very small performance boost in FPS. However, the problem of losing FPS over time still exists.

When I start out I get a bit over 60FPS at rest without a crowd, and closer to 50FPS if moving around.
After a few minutes I get 60FPS at rest and 45 FPS while moving.
After a couple of hours play I get 50 to 55 FPS at rest and 7 to 9FPS while running around.
Quit and restart starts this progression over.

This smacks of some sort of leak since the effect increases as I play. Note that a lot of dashing around on my mount is the quickest way to get the framerate to drop.

Also worth noting that on PTS I was getting 80 to 100 FPS at rest.

EDIT: And sound is about 90% fixed. I still occasionally hear a sound play 30 seconds or a minute after the event occurred, and some NPCs still have some sentences with no sound, often in the middle of a conversation. It's very hard to catch this on video as it only happens occasionally and when is not predictable.

Which reminds me, ShadowPlay still is not working but I am now able to capture video with a feature of Windows 10.

So I just upgraded my operating system from windows 7 to Windows 10 (I actually did a clean install). Prior to this and todays patch I could right click on the eso64.exe and run the client in 64bit. When I try to do this today I get an error message in windows:

64-bit still bogging down framerates. Compared to the usual 40-60 FPS on 32 bit, the 10-15FPS on 64-bit is still appalling. Textures still missing. Audio is fine.

You need to download the 64 bit c++ Visual (?) something? from microsoft. There was a thread about it when 64-bit client first came out, I just can't quite remember.

Actually, this is very much an upgrade, so please stop disseminating incorrect information. Since installing Windows 10 I find my computer boots far faster, uses less RAM and is far more responsive. The game itself has increased by around 10fps. As far as RAM is concerned I already have 8GB of DDR3 RAM and 4GB on my Graphics card. I have the setting for ESO maxed and I never use more than around 50% of my available RAM. I am very happy with the responsiveness of the game especially running the 64-bit client :)

I had tried the 64 bit client several times previously, and found it to be unusable in PvP due to various glitches - the most significant of which was frequent screen "freezes" during larger fights. The audio performance was not improved enough over the 32 bit version to make me want to change.

Last week, a guild mate told me that he was no longer losing his sound in Cyrodiil - and is using Windows 10 with 64 bit client. The loss of sound during any fights involving larger groups has been my main issue with the state of PvP lately.

Saturday, I installed Windows 10 (upgrade) and began using 64 bit.

I am in one of the most active DC PvP guilds in NA True flame. I played more than five hours each of the past four days in Cyrodiil and we had our usual epic time with hordes of res and yellow to kill.

I have not lost audio since changing.

Regardless of issues that remain to be fixed this is the best way to play PvP now. Congratulations to ZOS on fixing this issue and giving a very stable gaming experience.
