A Noob Question about MMO Perm Bans

What will keep people who are perm ban from just making a new account? (buy a new copy of ESO and make new chars on a new account user name) Besides from starting all over all,,,

Just that it is as well against the TOS, to use another or the same service from Zenimax after a ban.

Depend on the kind of player. I'd believe most would be done with it. Because despite losing their character, they lose:

    - Hopefully all their ill gotten gains.
    - Crown Store items or/and collections, skins, polymorphs.
    - Champion Points.
    - Achievements
    - Burning bridges in top pvp and pve guilds, and friends who are disgusted by the behaviour.

What do they risk by making a new account and hack again?

    - They had proof such behaviour costs a permaban, so one has to be really re-tarded to keep buying the game and hacking and getting banned.

    What if they play legit?

I'd have nothing against a cheater start legit from nothing in a new account.

they could move some stuff like to a guild bank or something to keep the cheat goods before the ban when they make a new account or only get their atl account ban, but not their main account. What about those cases?

But like one, who does not know their own TOS - TOS says, that someone getting a ban is not welcome on any service provided by Zenimax any longer.

People have been getting banned from WoW for about 12 years now... I honestly think a quarter of WoW's revenue is from banned players buying new accounts. It's a marketing strategy :D

I think he meant like, they are welcome for the money. You banned me so I bought a new copy, you're welcome ZoS... Anyways that's kinda how I read it the first time I glanced at it.

It is true, if they buy the game again they are agreeing to a "new" TOS with that particular license.

Well that is what blizzard told me anyway.

Edit: It would have to be a new account as well.

Do you really believe that much people will spend money again on the game and start over again ? I believe that most will give up after first ban.

If anyone's curious, I'll quote the direct passage of the TOS about the termination of an account and the restriction of services offered.
If ZeniMax terminates an Account, it may terminate other Accounts that share the same characteristics, such as the name on the Account, email address, mailing address, Internet Protocol address, or credit card number or other Payment Method. ZeniMax reserves the right to use any means necessary and permitted under applicable law to identify and terminate Accounts.

You acknowledge that in such circumstances, ZeniMax is not required to provide You notice before taking action to restrict, suspend or terminate Your access to or use of Services, and/or Your Account. If ZeniMax terminates Your Account, You may not use any Service again without ZeniMax's express written permission. ZeniMax reserves the right to refuse to keep Accounts for, and provide Services to, any individual. You may not allow individuals whose Accounts have been terminated by ZeniMax to use Your Account.

However, it is my view that the TOS also says that disruptive behavior and use of third party software to hack the game is disallowed*. But if someone already violated the TOS once, then what's stopping them from doing it again? I'm pretty sure that hackers or cheaters don't care if they violated the TOS or not. The only thing they would have to consider is the initial price. Nothing else will actively prevent them from creating a new account.

/I think it's safe to say they sleep fine at night while knowing that they violated the TOS. :D /

    *
You agree not to use any Service to:

    Promote, upload, transmit, encourage or take part in any activity involving hacking, cracking, phishing, taking advantage of exploits or cheats and/or distribution of counterfeit software and/or Virtual Currency or virtual items. In an effort to continuously improve the Services, You and other players discovering exploits, cheats, cracks or other inconsistencies are required to report them to ZeniMax;

If they want to spend the money for a brand new empty account, I have no problem with that. The loss of all they efforts in their old account is punishment enough.

Hmmmmm. Now I'm thinking of buying another copy on sale...

Because if bans are based on the game logs, they show the download of the program, as well as usage of it, frequency of ults used and so on. To find out who was actually using it with I'll intent, they'd have to go personal into evidence - more than just ult usage logs, which I really hope for :)

They might do an IP ban, which is harder to circumvent, but essentially there is nothing stopping people from returning. Most people will get banned and probably never return to the game, while a few people will see it as a challenge. The main aspect about the ban is to act as a deterrent. A lot of people who would benefit from cheating have invested a lot of time and money into an account and the risk of losing it means they will likely never do it.

Well alot of these players where old players just looking to go out with a bang from what I understand.

Not that I support that in the least.

Anyway I'm sure they laundered their items so they could start a new account with their wealth intact and just grind back up. The catch up mechanic is pretty effective and it'd only take 3 months or so to recap and pretty much be back where they where I'd imagine. Less with money.

Lol. This thread totally Reads "I wanna cheat, how bad is the consequence?"

And when we answer, he says, "well what if I move all my items to a guild bank, before I get banned. What then?" Lol.

It's pretty clear what's happening here.

As others have said generally if someone signs up again with a new account after being banned in an MMO there is nothing done.

They may ban an email address but that's easy to counter. The idea is they will lose all they invested into the account for their time of play.

also if you want new account and play legit, and have no connection with old account:

you need to reinstall windows to change Hardware id
you may also meed change MAC of your router and PC ethernet card as well as uniqueid of your HDD/SSD
and also i recommend you to change ip adress somehow - VPN or smthing

Interesting topic, and I'd love to see @ZOS_JessicaFolsom respond to this thread. However, I highly doubt they will tolerate them coming back. They caused so many problems just before the DLC was supposed to hit. And to do this on Memorial Day Weekend? Even worse. Making them all come on and fix this on their day off... I'd ban and shut the door tight too.

Thanks for the info. I am just playing "what if" games in my head and not sure how MMO works with bans. For the record, I never cheated or planing to. In fact, I do not even like to use addons that much. IMHO, some of them are very close to cheating too.
