Simple poll about your perception of ESO

Simple poll, completely anonymous.

Just curious if the string of exploits and glitches (ultimates/crafting/<cheat program>) have any influence on your perception of the game and it's community.

Do you find yourself upset and teetering on moving on to another game, or is the forum just full of crybaby conspiracy theorists?

Enforcement of ToS is too lax; all of the exploiters/hackers are causing me to consider doing so as well so I don't fall behind.

People need to stop overreacting and need to realise these issues are ONLY on PC.

The other 2 out of the 3 platforms are on are absolutely fine. The biggest issue is players not realising their own internet connection is the main cause to 95% of their problems the other 5% being when there are many players in the same location which ZOS need to work on.

But what game has anyone ever played that was perfect and why are they not playing it anymore and here on these forums?

People seriously need to give ESO a break because deep down we all like the game and enjoy it or else why on Earth would you be playing it or have over 4 maxed out characters?

While I am not about to pack up and move or start cheating myself, it does feel like enforcement is not present or too light.

Well there is no option for me - I do not want ESO to become a 2nd Archeage disaster. I will personally most likely not be effected by this for a long time to come - but it kills any desire to try out pvp at some point in time, and as I know me, I will want to try it and maybe even enjoy it - but not, if these hacks are around - that is why I left Archeage for example. So in short, as long as I do not do pvp, it will most likely just be an annoyance on the forums for me - but when I will try pvp and will be confronted with these kind of hacks, this might make me leave for good.

Not trying to add to the craziness here, just want an honest, non-attributional look into how people are feeling.

I /lurk in a lot of threads, and see reactions running the spectrum.

Hopefully, we can keep this thread low-key and even-keeled.

hacking / exploiting should lead to ban

Well, for a competitive player this is an absolute disaster - I can understand the feelings of those, who do not use cheats to accomplish something very well. And I do not think, that a person, who is not a cheater, will attempt to cheat as well due to this. Someone considering that, is per se already a cheater by concept, he has just not commited the crime yet. But a decent moral person will not cheat, regardless if that is policed or not.

    Poll too biased.

Either I don't care about hacking/exploiting or I'm considering it myself.

Without an option like "I don't think it's a minor issue but I'm not considering it myself because I have a bit of decency and would rather see them punished" I'm not voting.

Back when the game was a monthly subscription model I would have expected higher standards, but not after it's gone subscription free. Finite resources, staff, and trying to the keep the game afloat I can understand it will take time for them to fix issues; there are games where cheating is far more rampant and have bigger issues than ESO.

But it is not free to play - I doubt that ZOS has any problem with "keeping afloat" - this game is doing well, revenue-wise. But I have seen in Archeage what happens, when hacks are around and effect a lot of players - at some point they have just enough and leave for good. It happened to Archeage and at lot of other korean games, simply because korean get performance for their games by violating the client-server architecture - that is why there are so many hacks possible - and ESO has as well not a proper client-server architecture, otherwise hacks like this would not be possible.

I get what you are saying, but comparing ESO to Archeage in any sense is way off. That game was set up to be a P2W disaster right from the get go, with a developer (Korean) and publisher ocean's apart (literally). What a mess.

Well, when players can manipulate their stats and use abilities on top of it more often than intended - what does that mean for competitive gameplay?- This is a big issue for this part of the game - because these cheats make competition unfair and then it is not desirable anymore, to try competitive gameplay in the intended way - more and more will use cheats then, to be on par with the others and stay competitive. This has to be avoided, because it will just kill the pvp and competitive PvE part of the game - speak "end game" will be horrible.

Yes archeage has a lot of issue, one being that Trion is a horrible publisher with no way to do anything on the game by themselves, because it is owned by XXL games and if those do not make changes, Trion can do nothing. But Archeage is by concept a game, which is not meant to be around for long - most korean games are fast cash grabbers which cater to whales. ESO is hopefully not intended to be of this kind. But it can run into similar problems, if this now is not taken care of.

Edit: an example - when housing will be out - and if this has some limited supply like in Archeage - then bots can make this feature into a real disaster - like it is in Archeage, some have lots of houses, others cannot get a spot, because they do not cheat. I never made it to more than a 16x16 in Archeage, and this was sheer luck, because the grabber bot crashed just a few seconds before the spot was up for sale.

ESO is an awesome game. Very few things can possibly happen that could truly ruin its population.

Then again, I play on PS4. It is not my place to speak on how terrible hacking is on the PC servers atm. Over on console this doesn't exist.

I voted that this is generally blown out of proportion, though I do believe ZOS needs to tighten the noose a bit more. I think they are on the right track with the change to PERMANENT bans, I just think they need to come down with more of the same and more often.

I also think these ban waves needs to be front page news like with other game companies.

I am glad to see it confirmed that many of these "I can do it because it's undetectable" types that try and hack in instanced areas thinking they will only get caught if they are reported by other players, are also being banned because imagine that, there are scripts running to check the logs if calculated stats, damage, and time between abilities were actually where they should be.

So, people are getting banned even when they were not directly reported by other players!

This weekend was mostly an organized attack by people that have a vested interest, either in other games or in causing economic strife through bad publicity. Overall I think they failed, as my enjoyment and faith in ESO has not been altered by their antics.

I just get the impression this was a bunch of attention seekers and copycats leaving ESO anyway and wanting to go out with a bang. Well, they got their wish. Enjoy those permanent bans now that you can't come back even if you wanted to.

But I don't think their goal of disrupting the community or affecting sales was at all successful.

    The poll is absurd.

1 answer that things are no big deal. 2 choices for the sky is falling and a final choice of nothing.

Really, they need to remove the ability to create pointless polls right after they finish clearing house.
