Is this person selling in-game stuff for real life money

Someone wanted me to buy a Recipe a few minutes ago.
I said I was interested.
I sent him a friend request and he accepted.
He never showed up on my friends list so I could pay for what he was selling with in-game money.
He started talking about paying for the recipe with Cash on Delivery. ESO only Deals in gold.
Cash means real life money.
What made me end the Deal was his request for 500 gold was changed to 5000 gold.
I ended up saying No Deal.
I am still worried people might be trying to con real life money out of people to pay for what is normally in the game.
His ESO in-game ID is [snip]
I have no idea if I should report this player or not or is he doing a normal trade and I'm understanding him wrong.
What do you think?

Well COD technically does mean Cash On Delivery...there's no such thing as GOD (Gold On Delivery), so that might just have been your misunderstanding there.

As for him changing the amount...either he got annoyed at having to explain what COD meant and increased the sum just because, or he was trying to scam you on that point at least.

Sounds like he just wanted to do the mail based COD maybe the idea was to scam by entering 5k rather than 500g but who know.

OP I would advise you take the players name out of your post as it breaks the ZOS naming and shaming rules. If you need to report a player do so via PM to a developer/community member.

    Thanks for the Tip.

Ive reported tons of gold-sellers on PS4. They use Trading Communities to do their stuff. I wouldnt mind if I was able to sell off my Gold for real money though.

    Cash means real life money.
No, it doesn't. The word "cash" can refer to any currency, including fictional Tamrielic gold.

If you are arranging a trade with someone and they ask you to COD it, it means send it in an in-game mail with the item(s) attached and the amount of gold you want to charge in the COD box (which is then sent automatically to you when they take the item from the mail) - it's not referring to IRL money.

It would appear you've never taken the time to look at your in-game mail interface. If you had, you would have seen that "COD" is a term that the game itself uses, is a feature of the game's mail system, and has absolutely nothing to do with real-world money.

You go to the effort to come on here, sign up/in, and post this ridiculous thread... But can't google a simple term like COD (cash on delivery)? It's a term that has been used in any MMO with a mailing system. A staple phrase in the online community.
Or even just paying attention in-game and noticing it's right that when you send a mail.

I'm usually the first person to defend new people not knowing stuff, but this just takes the biscuit..

To be fair I had never heard of C.O.D. before I started playing ESO (none of my previous MMOs used it) and the UI doesn't explain anything about what it is or how it works, they don't even write the term out in full. I had to get a guild mate to explain it to me.

But yes, basically he was asking to mail the item to you and then you'd pay when you received it, rather than meeting up in-game to trade. It's odd that his price jumped up, and I agree it's best not to pay if someone does that (although I might query the change rather than simply refusing to trade, it could be a typo) but he wasn't asking for real life money.

(The word cash simply refers to money in physical form. In real life that means coins and/or notes as opposed to electronic transfers, or other forms of payment such as goods or services. In ESO its use is a bit odd because we do only have the one form of currency, I suppose payment on delivery would be a more accurate term, but cash is technically not incorrect.)
